The thunder- thunder- THUNDERCATS HOOOOOO!-thread - Part 2

I think it's known for sometime since last year that 26 episodes have been produced. Cartoon Network may have split into 13 episodes per season to make it into 2 seasons instead of one. If Thundercats isn't returning for Fall, then it's likely the end for the Thundercats as it's in the same category as 2002 He-Man and MOTU.

New adaptation of the Trial of Lion-O or whatever.

You know, he's really starting to get on my nerves. He's acting like ******** *****.......cat. :o

Seriously, CN is like at the top of my hate list right now if they kill the show.

Regarding Lion-O, just remember he's still a kid in many ways.

The first part of the Trials of Lion-O is a nod to the original series', except Lion-O was dead in the underwater and the spirit stone takes him to a spiritual plane to take on the spirits of Wilykit, Wilykat, and Cheetara. However, I agree that it was odd that neither Cheetara or Panthro didn't save Lion-O during his fall. The new generals have continue to impress me as threats and have become more useful than Grune. This two-parter may see Lion-O in some transition to let go of his arrogance. I do like the part when Lion-O shook the tree and Tygra fell down. I think the second season may be better than the first in that we may not get anymore filler episodes. This was a good episode.

I have a feeling Lion-O will have become a bit wiser and a little less rash by the end of "Trials" part 2. It's also possible that his feelings towards the Tygra/Cheetara relationship will come to a "full" understanding and acceptance(especially since Pumyra's intro is just around the corner:cwink:).

Pretty neat episode today! The mutants are really a slimy bunch!! So far, so good!

Speaking of Pumyra, I can't see to see what she looks like in the new Thundercats. I hope they have her as close to Panthera from Legacy.

Well, seeing as she is going to be introduced as pit-fighter, I can imagine her being pretty strong. She'll possibly look very Amazon-like, but we'll see. I may end up being way off.

Yeah, I can see Pumyra being Amazon-like the same as Panthera. The Thundercats need to expand their ranks if they ever hope to defeat Mumm-Ra.

I hope Bengali appears in the upcoming episode Native Son.

Hey guys, this is the best fan made opening I've ever seen for the show with the classic theme. It's a bit of a remix of the classic theme, but the author managed to put in new dialogue and sound FX from the new show so it works great. I just think it's pretty cool since the new show really has no opening what so ever.

Great episode this week. I like the initiative of the sadistic Kaynar actually pushing Lion-O off the cliff and killing him. Liked Wily Kat actually a makeshift memorial for Lion-O. And the trials actually addressed a lot of Lion-O's character flaws so I like that.

No he's not. This ain't the old series where he grows from a kid to adult cuz of some faulty stasis pod.

Tigra's like the same age and he's a hell of a lot more mature than him.

i'm not sure if lion-o and tygra are the same age. i always thought tygra was a little bit older but couldn't be king because he wasn't of blood. that was one of the reasons why he was always jealous of lion-o. if i guessed i would say tygra was about 21 and lion-o was 18. nothing concrete but it seems like 18 would be the age that lion-o would go to college/learn to be king.

Tygra is a bit older than Lion-O, but Lion-O isn't some adolescent, either. He's characterized as generally spoiled and childish, likely as a throwback to the original series and also to provide room for growth.

The problem with the Trials is they're too easy, from a growth standpoint. They identify the flaws he has, but his realizations are short-lived - "Oh, that's how I win this trial. Got it!" And we've seen realizations such as these in previous episodes, which do not quite take to the next or after-next episodes. I'm not saying the Trials episodes will not "take" and serve to adequately bring the character forward, and make him wiser, more adult, or what have you, but the growth will be a little hollow in that regard.

Lion-O is 17 so technically still a kid.

Kaynar is awesome. I liked that he actually killed Lion-O and pushed him off the cliff like it was nothing. The dude is awesomely sadistic. Tired of villains who will always take the good guys hostage instead of just killing them when they have the chance.

^Agreed

This show is getting frustrating. If you're gonna give Panthro those ridiculous stretchy arms, why not have him use them as Slythe is sloooooowly flying off with the sword of omens?

Here's hoping Lion-O gets aged up by the end of his trials

If not a physical aging, a decade's worth of mental aging and maturity would be welcome as well. I'm starting to see why Tygra is having trouble taking orders from this guy; besides the fact that he's a jealous a-hole himself.

I think I dislike all the characters. Can Ben-Gali come lead the team already :o

I do think he'll become a little wiser after the trials. I think he'll have better initiative.

As for Lion-O maturing physically, if not what you suggested, then something I was thinking was, after Lion-O successfully accomplishes victory in the trials and helping the other Thundercats with Mum-Ra and The Mutants, that by the end of the episode it could fast-foreward some several months later, and then we would be shown a more mature looking Lion-O; taller, a little bigger(not He-Man big, but a little more amped), and longer feral hair. This would set up that he is ready to lead The Thunderctas on a new phase of obstacles.

All wishful thinking, ofcourse:cwink:

Trials of Lion-O part 2 was written by Will Friedle, who voices Lion-O. It's good for the actor to get inside the head of his character. Lion-O was passing most of 'the trials until he to Tygra's realm and that's where it all fell apart there. It seems that he has a problem with Tygra more than Mumm-Ra. His rescuing the other Thundercats, regaining the Sword of Omens, and battling Mumm-Ra was his biggest moment.

Tygra has always been critical of Lion-O after all these years and now it's biting back at him as he now sees what it's like to be king, even for a brief moment. Lion-O's words about doing whatever he wants as king in the first part is coming through to Tygra. I hope they address this in the next episode.

Wilykit's unwavering belief in Lion-O is a good character development for her and Lion-O acknowledged her contributions for her trails she left for him. Slithe is working well with the new generals than he ever did with Grune. Speaking of Mumm-Ra, he's going to have win me over more to be a serious threat to the Thundercats. I suspect we won't be seeing Mumm-Ra, Slithe, and the new generals after this episode for awhile. Overall, a good episode.

I thought it was a great episode. I think CN should have kept the show at it's original timeslot on Fridays. Didn't it have good ratings at that timeslot? Why do they keep messing with the timeslot of every single action series they've had on that network?

Here are the ratings:

CARTOON NETWORK 1.7/9 Avg. (7a-1p)
Johnny Test 1.5/17; Redakai: Conquer the Kairu 1.2/10; Beyblade: Metal Masters 1.5/10; Pokemon B&W: Rival Destinies 1.6/9; Ben 10: Ultimate Alien 1.6/8; Thundercats 2.0/9; The Green Lantern 1.5/7; Young Justice 1.8/8; Mad 1.8/9; Level Up 1.5/7; Johnny Test 2.3/12; Johnny Test 1.7/10

Not too bad, I suppose.

I don't know if those are good enough to save the show since the toys have not sold well. I'm tired of getting my hopes up after so many disappointments. CN cancels shows with good ratings regardless because of lack of merchandise and merchandise sales.
