The Thunderbolts* News and Discussion Thread

They definitely set that up in BNW to expand on it more in Thunderbolts since the latter is more Bucky's movie, though honestly a subplot about Bucky being elected to Congress would have fit better in a Captain America movie than a couple of Hulk villains. :o

Bad creative. Plain and simple.

Imagine if we were just a getting X-Men movie (with the ot cast) in May and F4 in July, both setting up Doomsday. Summer would be a lot more exciting and interesting.

If Sentry doesn't make a Multiverse wormhole in this movie, the setup/tease for Doomsday in Thunderbolts would probably be similar to BNW's post credits*

I really hope, if this movie is as good as it looks, that it does well at the box office

Its one thing when its a mediocre movie like Brave New World or Quantumania
But for a good Marvel movie to fail would be a major red flag that Marvel's run of dominance is truly over
Thunderbolts* performing bad at the box office won't help the Fantastic 4 in 2 months after its release.

Disney having this trio - Captain America legacy movie without Chris Evans, Thunderbolts team comprising of MCU supporting characters from the past and the 2nd Fantastic 4 movie reboot - in a span of 6 months... like what were they thinking? There should have been a traditional sequel inbetween those films*

The Multiverse Saga was not well thought out or conceived from the beginning. They probably thought it would be easy to proceed without the core characters who brought them to the Infinity Saga, especially after they basically gave a formal ending to most of those characters and acted like Endgame was the ending. Endgame was also a stupid title.

The OT cast is not the draw you think they are.

Yeah just like how Hugh Jackman was in a billion dollar movie last year.. and guess what, he's part of the OT cast!

Even if they aren't a big draw, a new movie for them would likely attract more buzz than the movie we are getting next month*

You can't possibly think a line up of Cyclops, Storm, Jean, the Wolverine, the Professor, Beast, Iceman, Rogue, Gambit (whoever is being lined up for Doomsday and Secret Wars) won't attract more people than this Thunderbolts line up*

He literally gets beaten by Ant-Man in his first actual appearance as Kang.

He literally doesn't. He has to have all his technology stripped away by someone using his own tech against him before there's a real fight at all, then he still beats Scott's ass with ease until a lucky shove pushes him into the wrong piece of equipment at exactly the right time and (painfully) makes him disappear. Which was almost certainly not intended to be him dying, anymore than Red Skull or Yellowjacket died when something similar happened to them.

So he lost to ants and a lucky shove. He literally did.

Yeah Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Not the other actors.

I think they were largely hoping that Jonathan Majors was going to be able to carry the Multiverse Saga on his back as Kang. We all saw how that blew up in their face.
They made Kang feel like homework. You had to watch Loki season 1, then you had to watch Loki season 2 to get an understanding of how he is different. It just took the fun out of it for me and I don't like any of the MCU series. Thanos and the IS had speculation and you can guess which one was going to show up and guess how the Soul stone was going to play out.

Quantumania was a bad movie too and that did not help.

Yeah Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Not the other actors.
Your point? A X-Men movie featuring the OT cast should/would include Hugh Jackman. Idk why you and @Sithborg are removing him from that group.

The X-Men cast (the ones announced in Doomsday) are the only cast members who haven't headlined any MCU films. Patrick Stewart in Multiverse of Madness, doesn't count as that was not a leading role. And a film leading up to their appearance in Doomsday (and Secret Wars) would have been a wiser move than a Thunderbolts* movie, which is probably not going to do well at the box office*

Are you disagreeing that a X-Men film in May 2025 wouldn't do well or perform better than Thunderbolts* especially after Deadpool/Wolverine made a billion last year?

He's not going to have a lead role in Doomsday either, and neither will the other Fox actors, *Shrugs*

Well we know Avengers is pretty much Marvel All Stars, and I don't expect any of them to take the lead role over RDJ. You still haven't answered my question.

I know you are tired of these Fox actors returning, but a X-Men film featuring them would sell better than Thunderbolts, which was my point in my previous post and you are still dodging to answer my question to you*

Well, we won't know that til next month

Even the much beloved Logan, the last time multiple OT cast members were on screen together, only made $600m worldwide
I dunno if Thunderbolts will hit that, but if it comes close to that at least, I'm sure Feige and Marvel would be happier achieving that with a new original film as opposed to relying on a twenty year old fox franchise

Eh. Marvel Studios is already relying on the Fox franchise or else they wouldn't announce 6 from the ot cast in Doomsday. Dofp grossed about $745 million, not $600 million. The problem was Fox threw that cast away in favor of younger versions (that Kevin Feige is now ignoring in this Multiverse Saga) and Hugh/Patrick were killed off in the Logan movie.

Also, a X-Men movie in 2025 (including Hugh and Channing) would have benefited from Deadpool & Wolverine. Its just not going to gross half of Deadpool & Wolverine. Thats just a given since Deadpool & Wolverine the movie is a popular movie. If people don't think a X-Men film in 2025 wouldn't have benefited from last year's movie, then what are the chance of an actual X-Men movie reboot succeeding at the box office several years from now, when its all brand new faces?

I also think from the story point of view. Plenty of the X-Men we are seeing in Doomsday, would be introduced and set up there, unlike established MCU actors. Thats why imo, they should have made a X-Men film prior to Doomsday/Secret Wars.

Thunderbolts* isn't really generating a lot of buzz as of the moment, and I doubt by next year, more people are looking forward to see them in Doomsday than, the X-Men.
