And please explain, I, for one, say Feelings is the threat to us all, it makes us all sad, happy and such. I mean, Have you no idea what i would do to not ever cry again? *sniff* I would do so much :csad:

I mean, if Feelings take over, we might see on CNN, god forbid. Wolf Blitzer Reporting via Interpretive Dance?!

No, this cannot happen, Now please, find the other threats and uh....show explenations and such.

I actually would want to see that....

Religion. And to elaborate on that so I don't end up cited for being "intolerant," the neo-fascist role religion is playing in our society has created too many divides which I feel are almost irreparable. Look at California, for instance, and how the Mormon church single-handedly destroyed the lives of 18,000 people who had been married but had their lives thrown into chaos because a few religious zealots felt the need to dump their church's money into writing discrimination into the CA constitution. Look at the millions of women many religious zealots want to tear rights away from because some of them are forced to make a medical decision about their pregnancies. Look at the millions of atheists religious zealots have disenfranchised by trying to insert their beliefs into functions of every day society. Hell, a former president said that atheists shouldn't be considered real citizens in this country.

I consider religion to represent a threat to our society. And again, I stress that the fundamentalist psycho-fanatics who have bastardized their various faiths in the name of bigotry and division are the ones who represent this threat, not all religious people, or the concept of religion itself.

Someone has watched Equilibrium one too many times.

I could only come up with 4.

Fundamentalist Religious Worship - The reasons are pretty simple. Nothing has caused more murder and death in the world than blind, literate faith in ones religion. Middle Eastern conflicts, the Crusades, Jonestown, the list goes on forever. Murder is evil, but when you think God's on your side and only on your side, you somehow become the exception to the rule.

Science without ethics - Anyone whose read Kurt Vonnegut's masterpiece "Cat's Cradle" will know what I'm talking about with this one. Scientific advancement is always a double edged sword, and isn't in itself a good thing on its own. I'll use a quote from Vonnegut to sum up. Here's what he said about one of the scientist he based his "Cat's Cradle" character on. "[Irving] Langmuir was absolutely indifferent to the uses that might be made of the truths he dug out of the rock and handed out to whomever was around. But any truth he found was beautiful in its own right, and he didn’t give a damn who got it next".

Apathy - "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it." We here that a lot about the Holocaust and that we need to learn about it so it never happens again. Sadly, its a lesson we still have never seemed to learn. There are Holocausts going on right now in several countries. But as Jaoquin Phoenix's character said in Hotel Rwanda, people will see it on TV, say "That's horrible" and go right back to eating their dinners.

Ignorance - This is not the same as not knowing something. There is nothing wrong with not knowing something, as long as you can acknowledge that you don't know it. But when you're ignorant, you breed superstitions. Examples: "The reason my cows died is because my neighbor's a witch" "The reason Germany is in such a state of decay is because the Jews have all the power." "The reason the crime is so bad is because of all those black people." You see where I'm going.

I really had to ponder the irony of electing an African-American President, and then immediately after denying gays the right to marry. Its almost as if the universe was trying to tell us "You're doing good, but you've still got a ways to go".

As long as them blacks ain't havin' sex with other men we ain't got no problem with them here in the US o' A. Focus on the family!!!! Dur.

Only one thing. The United States Tax Code.

That is all.

Depending on what threads you've read today, I may be one to some people... :P

EDIT:

But to answer your question in all seriousness, I'd say technology. The taller you build your pedestal, the farther you'll fall.

Teacher! Teacher! Can I change my answer?! I wanna go with bears, too!

I would say this is the second-greatest threat facing our society. A lot of these men should learn to shave their excess body hair, and it wouldn't hurt for them to get in touch with their feminine side every once and a while. Oh, and a little weight loss never hurt anyone, either.

I researched what you meant.

Not what I had in mind...

Ourselves...ooh, that's some deep stuff right there.

old, tired ideas. i dont understand not letting gays marry. if they want to put up with divorce lawyers and go through rigorous fees and anguish like everyone else, then let them. besides, religion and state are supposed to be separate. the only argument ive heard from these god fearing closed minded A holes is that they want to preserve their belief that a marriage is between a man and woman. who ever said gays were trying to marry in church??? AND even if they wanted to, it would be up to the priest or pastor to decide. I agree with JAMNSPICE

Damn, what a great true post. Those were my same thoughts.

Well I don't think homosexuals should get married because they'll take all the GOOD interior decorators, chefs, and get the better rings. NOT fair...:oldrazz:

Well...I just really hate both of those.

To me there is two kinds of apathy.

Apathy Applied: When an individual, of any circumstance, comes across a situation outside of their means and simply does not react because it is beyond them. In a group of like minded individuals, someone may be able to make a difference because while they all have apathy for certain things, it is not the same things for everyone.

Example: Crime exists, yet you don't take up guns and armor and become the real world punisher. You, as an individual, may not be able to do anything, but you support cops and people who can.

Silly Example: You are walking along a long road and eventually see a dragon destroying a town. You blink and keep walking, as going there would only equal certain death.

Omni-Apathy: An individual doesn't care about anything. In a group of omni-apathists(like that? I just made it up. It means apathetic person in plural), nothing would ever be accomplished because no one cares about anything.

Example: As an individual, you see someone being raped or murdered and choose to do nothing with a displacement of duty(I forgot the term we used in psychology) attitude. You ignore things in front of you, even if you can help. You think "It's not me so why should I care?"

Silly Example: You wake up and see a dragon destroying your town and a woman screaming from her window across the street, as the dragon set the building on fire. You turn over and go back to sleep.

I'm talking about Omni-Apathy. That's mostly what I see these days. Not from a lot of people, but a hand full. I can't stand that.
