Application: The "Age Of Wonder: DC & Marvel" RPG

The extent of my knowledge is that Jay was the first, and he's the one who wears the hat with the wings...Bart was Impulse...they're superfast...Wally is a little cocky...they work through the Speed Force...and they are DC characters.

Anything else is vague memories of Wally from the Justice League cartoon.

Three people.

I haven't picked anyone yet. :(

...

Damn it!

I must!

Though in all seriousness, I was mulling over The Joker instead. If someone else wants Batman, by all means.

Question: Would The Joker and other such villains who were campy in the silver age and genuinely dangerous S.O.B.s later on get increasingly dangerous with each season? With The Joker, you could obviously explain it as his being insane and changing his personality for the hell of it, but for others, how would that work?

My understanding is that you attack the origin however you want. However, it must take place in 1950.

Wait, slow down.

Does this RPG mean (seeing as no one's shotgunned him yet) I FINALLY get to play Spider-man?

That would be an element mostly up to the player that plays them. You could say that a said villain was simply following the trend of zany criminal antics, and by Season III, set in the 70's, they would have grown tired of it and decided to take their criminal career in a new direction. Or, if you wanted to, you could even say your character was into the... experimentation revolution of the 60's. :o

Either way, your character's progression would be up to you, pretty much.

...I'm not gonna allow reservations that early on, for Season II characters. You'd have to be here at the end of the first season to claim him. Sorry. :(

two questions:

1- are we assuming that Cap is in ice? if not I want him!

2-Charles Xavier is an adult in the seventies, does that mean I can play him now as a young man?

Yeah, Cap's in ice and if you play Xavier, you probably wouldn't found the X-Men until Season II, but you'd be able go through his beginnings with Magneto and how they orginally got along. Heck, even build Cerebro with him.

and putting him in the chair.

that be fun.
but didnt the x-men come out in the seventies?
talk about a slow build.

I want Chuck!

But it would combine Marvel and DC?

Yes, think of it as a combinded Silver Age. The only downside we can see is that DC had about a 5 or 10 year head start on Marvel.

Nope. X-Men #1 debuted in 1963

Umm...err...please stay on topic.

I know how hard that is especially when MB is involved, but let's not clutter the threads.

Err...I thought I was on topic? He wondered if the X-Men debuted in the 70's, thus technically limiting their arrival to sometime in season III (if this thing even gets that far) and I just pointed out they debuted in the 60's.

Ah, okay. Then I'll pass.

You sure? I know the Silver Age isn't everyones favorite age, but I think it's got some potential, from a political standpoint. Kind of like New Frontier only with the Marvel characters thrown in there.

Oh, the Silver Age is great...once it gets into the 60's. Then the Marvel explosion begins...F4, Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man, the Avengers...

And the end of the Silver Age is widely considered the Death of Gwen Stacy, so it's a pretty long period of time.

I have nothing against the Silver Age. Heck, the New Frontier is one of my favourite works ever, but I don't like mixing DC and Marvel. I like the idea behind this RPG, but I'd want to see one for each universe.

Thanks for the input any thoughts and comments are well appreciated. I might chat with MB later today and see if we could pick a company to go with. I'd lean more towards DC since I really liked New Frontier but, Marvel does have Marvels going for it which wasn't too shabby.

Okay, guys (all... two of you :o), after much thought, I've decided I'm not gonna run with this RPG. If someone else wants to take the concept and apply for it themselves, that's fine with me, but I'm just not as into it as I was when I initially began thinking on the concept. And I figured it'd be better to just pull the plug early than have it gather attention, and abandon it then.

I'll be thinking upon other concepts I've had in my head awhile for another pitch, sometime in the future, but I'm not gonna follow through with this one. At least not anytime soon.
