So Superman: The Movie came on the other day, and of course i started watching it (after not having seen it in years). After Jonathan's heart attack, clark goes off and spends 12 years in the FOS, learning everything about his powers, kryptonian history, etc. He appears suit and all, and flies toward the screen. Then we get bumbling Clark.

Now, i clearly am not as familiar with the mythos as everyone else...if this was a Donner creation, if its in any other versions, or addressed in birthright, or what. What i do know, is that Smallville is kind of using the Donner movie as a foundation to tell its story.

so the question is: How entrenched in the mythology is this twelve year absence and how will Smallville address it?

it's not, and it might not be, but it might be

hows that answer?

I dont think they will. Like Crisis said...its different interpretations. I think the 12 years absence is more of a director/producer call than a mythos/continuity/storyline requirement.

probably wont have the 12 year absence, but he could have the 7 year itch.. and I wouldnt rule out the 100 Years War either ;) :p

....or the 1 month bender! oh, how i miss undergrad.

In the mythology & in every different incarnation of The SUPERMAN story(comics, film, TV, ) , Clark Kent leaves Smallville @ The age of [18] .

SUPERMAN : The movie - Clark spent 12 years in The FOS (learning about Krypton, The planet earth, his powers ,etc ....)

SUPERMAN comics (Post Crisis) - Clark leaves "Smallville" and travels around the world for 8 years, before he becomes SUPERMAN .

Lois & Clark - Clark made The around The world journey (just like in the P.C. comics)

STAS - Again Clark made The around The world journey .

Smallville - Unknown.

Smaville mike as well not bother with that because during the time Superman was making his around the earth tour he was taking college courses by e-mail or mail. SV he is staying at home and doing it there so SV should just stick to what they are doing.

Gough said in an interview that the events in this season would start being more wide ranging and might even take place in other places worldwide, not that we've actually seen too much of that so far. So I think they will have Clark roam from his homebase in Smallville if they do that at all.

talk abou ttaking a step forward then....clark gets to see the world....realizes that problems arent limited to smallville/metropolis....learn about different justice systems.....maybe we could see some central city, or gotham (even if it sans batman). i like the way that sounds. lucy is on the run in europe right? maybe she gets into trouble, and lois and clark (moment for laughter) go looking for her. sounds hot. i dig.

I think he was talking about Clark's little trips to the Arctic.

actually in STAS, he just kind of showed up, with no mention of the in between time. One moment he throws himself off a cliff in what appears to be an attempted suicide, realizes he can fly, goes home, hugs his parent... flash forward to Clark arriving at the DP. So we don't really know what happened during the inbetween.

after superman makes his first aperance in costume he goes back to smallville and talks with ma and pa and martha tells him that she has kept a scrap book of his good deeds around the world.

Exactly, just like she did in(The post Crisis comics) [THE MAN OF STEEL]& [Birthright]series.

The Donner Superman was clearly the most intelligent educated Superman. 12 years in the Fortress learning everything about the universe and of humanity from Jor-el...Holy.

^ Yea but thats because he was based off of Pre-Crisis Superman who was proably the smartest man in the world second to Lex.

I disagree, While I enjoy some of Donner's version Of SUPERMAN. I enjoyed John Byrne a whole lot more. It showed Clark made a choice due to the strong upbring by Jonathan & Martha Kent, To leave his home @ 18 and travel around The World, Learning about his new home & how he can use his powers to help people. Before Jor-EL made contact with him (about his Mission). I show Clark made The Choice to become SUPERMAN. He created his "OWN DESTINY" .

well i guess theyre are going to do the whole travel the world thing, now that the "zoners" are all over the place, and GA urging clark to go find people who need him instead of waiting.

I cannot believe that you dredged up this old thread from the depths of the SHH basement archives. LOL.. I'm impressed. :D

well thanks...it was my thread though, so it was easy to find. =)

LOL!

Did you just bring this thread up again so you could show us that you now know how to use the search function? :cwink: :oldrazz: :woot:

I wonder if they went on location to show Seattle?

thats shows how he is better then most here. becuase he could have just made a new one and then someone would have to say "there is already a thread about this" and tell him to learn how to use the search function.
