Comics The Ultimate X-MEN Thread

Yes, I forgot about that. They go from threatening all of humanity to threatening to ruin someone's prom dress. Way to go.

I think it has something to do with the new character Elliot. He clearly has problems with his powers.

Exactly. His last line "It's like magic" and showing his glowing hand clearly implied that he had something to do with their attack.

Yup, thats the same way I took it. The whole issue he wanted to go out and be an X-men. And then like magic, he gets his chance.

Yeah, I pointed that out too in my above post. Meh. Like I wrote there, that's probably sloppy.

Did anyone notice in the panel with Jean, Charles, and Elliot at the beach, her top changes into gold? I hate the art and colors in this issue.

^ Yeah.

Something else I noticed... Jean calls Xavier "Charles" several times through the issue, until Xavier finally says "Call me Professor," or something like that.

... Didn't Vaughan do that several issues before his run ended? Or was it an earlier writer? I've seen it before. I thought it was after the Most Dangerous Game arc.

yep its been done. I guess Kirkman wants to keep up the subtle creepiness of Xavier and Jean's relationship.

The artwork made me sad in this issue :( Jean's face looked like a man's in a close-up of her.

yep. And Storm looked like a boy, and Colossus just looked terrible.

Wasn't happy with the artwork.

I dropped this title when BKV left.Hopefully a writer comes along and really shakes things up and makes things exciting again.

This book sucks balls period.

I think we agree on something. I'll flip through the next issue in the store, and if it doesn't seriously pique my interest, it's so long Ultimate X-Men.

We did not come to the same point of view in the X-Men 185 thread. No, sir, we did not.

I really, really, really wonder what Magneto and Longshot are up to these days? Juggernaut too.

Yeah, I wonder about what Magneto and Longshot are going to be planning myself.

And then I cry when I think of what Kirkman might possibly do with/to them.

The whole series has slowed down in general. I read issues 1-62 in a few weeks so I got to see a major decline in action and important events. To go from Magneto's jailbreak and Mojo to Date Night and the Shi'ar Church is a bit saddening.

I find "a bit saddening" to be a bit of an understatement. That said, heh, yeah, I wholeheartedly agree with you about the slowdown in action.

Date Night certainly has its merits. It was (or is, or could have been) a great way to explore the different character dynamics, their individual characterizations, their characterizations in pairs, and their characterizations as a whole group. ... Unfortunately... wait, do I need to progress past that word?

The other side of this coin is, of course, Vaughan's work that we're coming off of. Not only did he weave high-action, -intensity, and exciting stories, but he succeeded admirably in, at the same time, fleshing out the characters. So, yeah. From Magnetic North to Date Night is a pretty harsh drop.

I think UXM would be a little better if they didn't keep giving Ultimate Spider-man all the cool cameos. (Deadpool, Moonknight, Omega Red, etc)

I wouldn't have wanted to see Ultimate Deadpool written by Kirkman. Bendis is infinitely better at dialogue than he is (... and that's saying a lot).

At least Omega Red should have been in UXM. We did get Sinister though :p

On the topic of writers; my order is:

Millar
Vaughan
Bendis
Kirkman

Well, obviously. But it's still stupid. It's like a SWAT team busting a rowdy teenager's party.

Switch up Millar and BKV then I agree.BKV made things very fresh and exciting with the characters instead of throwing in action scenes every issue like Millar did.I'm a bigtime Millar fan so that's saying something.
