The utility belt

Thanks!

I wonder how the motor knows when to send Batman what. Like when Batman wants that big ass gauntlet instead of the grapple gun. And it must have been a pain for Batman to sit in the batmobile with that large thing on his belt. :lmao:

In all seriousness, that gauntlet was way too big and uncool. The one in BR was pure awesome sauce.

The gauntlet looked fine to me especially the way Batman pointed and aimed it at the Joker's face. And the way it opens and shoots. It maybe big but it wasn't uncool, imo.

Sexy things are small. Except the batmobile.

The gauntlet was too big to be cool and sexy! And where did it come from? Something that big was hidden in his pants?

The gauntlet in BR is the coolest gauntlet Batman has ever had! Also 90% of Schumacher's gadgets looked really bad. They were so shiny and too chrome. It's like Joel were making sex toys, unsexy sex toys.

I think he had it on him all the time since his entrance

Definitely. They really do look like shiny toys from Kenner or like some corny alien laser weapons or something. And Bat Bomb? Bat Laser? Hmm, camp anyone? Schumacher's movies were so wrong. Gotham looked like big colorful circus and the role of Batman was chosen based on how "handsome" the actor was.

I did overall enjoy Batman Forever though. It's a guilty pleasure, I liked Val Kilmer and the first suit he wore with the yellow emblem was cool. And Joel Schumacher added Wayne Enterprise as well as my favorite rendition of Arkham Asylum on screen(in BF). Heck, I didn't even mind his Gotham in BF. BF absolutely went into the realms of camp but B&R was so bad that it was completely sucked dry. At least BF did have the subplot with Bruce remembering his parents, that sort of thing. There is absolutely nothing redeemable about B&R though besides maybe the performance of Michael Gough. Strangely I read that if another Batman movie was made they were considering re-casting Gough b/c he had gotten quite old. I'm not sure I believe that though because even a few years after B&R he had a supporting role in Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow.

Oh my, I've really gotten off topic. I'm actually looking for a pic of the bolo gun that Batman wraps about Joker. I guess I could just take a screen cap but I'm looking for a behind the scenes image of it. And back to Schumacher, I did not like his utility belts at all. They did not have anything attached to them, no function like the motor, and didn't even look stylish.

Well, I cant say the same. I dislike so many things about it that it wouldve been impossible for me to narrow them down to one sentence

I thought the sculpted body was silly and the black belt I didnt like at all either. I do like the cowl tho, but thats because its very similar to the Returns one. The cowl of the first costume he wore in Forever that is

Ah yes, Arkham looked phenomenal in this movie. Gotta give props for that

Heck, I didn't even mind his Gotham in BF.

Yeah, the design of Gotham in Forever is mostly good (minus the ridiculous "men bar" colors)

BF absolutely went into the realms of camp but B&R was so bad that it was completely sucked dry.

Thats true, it actually took me 3 tries to finish rewatching this movie for the first time since 2000 maybe, and I still just couldnt handle it and gave up somewhere during the observatory finale. If I had to pick one thing I hate the most its either Clooney's costumes or Clooney as Wayne himself

Yeah, I couldnt find that one. I always assumed he tied him up with the batarang at first because thats what he does in the comic adaptation

To quote one of the comments under the post - they look like Power Ranger weapons

I haven't paid attention to if any gadjets are shown attached on the belt in B&R but there are in Batman Forever.

To my knowledge there is no motor on the Panther suit belt to slide the gadjets forward as in the first two films, instead the larger gadjets just hang on the back (though not seen on screen) and when he need them he simply grab them. The smaller gadjets are within the pods and capsules on the front/sides of the belt.

During the elevator fight you can sort of make out he is grabbing the larger gadjets from the back of the belt while fighting. This occur after that, to save the guard he grab a medium size blowtorch (compared to the larger gadjets stored in the back) from the far right side of the belt. Later in the film he flip down the larger pod capsule (next to the buckle) and activate the fire-******ant cape to protect him from the flames.

Next is the Sonar suit belt which have no pods or capsules like the Panther belt but do have a similar "track/sliding" system like the Batman and BR belt. When Batman look up at the rising Nygmatech building you can clearly see a grappling gun hanging on the side of his belt which he grab and fire. Near the end of the film he flip open a small pod on the belt (added for that scene only) and a moment later (supposedly after pressing one of the buttons off-screen) the Sonar Batarang slides forward, disconnect and falls into his hand. After this they actually show him push one of the buttons on-screen when activating the Sonar lenses.

Regarding the sliding device on the Keaton belt, everytime the sliding device is used on film the capsules of the belt are gone in order to make the effect possible, when the effect is done the capsules are back on. For the Sonar (and Clooney) belt that would not be an issue if they had done the practical effect on-screen because there are no capsules to prevent the gadjets to slide forward.

Nice, thanks.

I totally forgot about the little pods on the BF suit, I liked when they opened and Batman pressed a button that did something like make his suit flame resistant or brought down the sonar eyes(which were ugly). Also I did rather like the grappling hooks that shoot off Batman's arms. That was cool in BF and dare I say even B&R

Also didn't know that about the keaton belt but it makes sense, definitely. Another thing is his grappling gun. Remember when Batman is falling from the belltower along with Vicki? He pulls out a grapple gun that has a hook at the end to save them. His normal grapple gun consisted of the piece that got fired as well as the hand grapple part. So did he put the grapple hook on his normal grappler or was it a completely different one?

The grapple gun in Arkham Asylum looks like it is modeled on the one from Burton's films.

Badass!
I was so glad when I came across these images.
I always thought Kilmer's first belt had a nice, compartmental look to it.

No. I mean the belt worn in the first half of Batman Forever, in which we could actually see him removing things from it.

Oh? I thought you were talking about Burton's, since you commented on the image. My bad.:csad:

You keep misinterpreting me. :) Anyways, I was just making a compare & contrast reference. I'd also like to note that I'm really not a fan of the plain old pouch belt. It looks so ordinary & low-tech to be housing the stuff that it holds.

I love the utility belt from the Arkham game best. It looks like it can store tools and stuff.

Believe it or not, they are still using these old diagrams in official DC guidebooks, even post-"New" 52.
