The Van Lente Avengers thread

But including Captain Britain and Black Knight would definately defunk MI:13, which would suck. But then again those were my two favorites of the team so I guess it wouldn't be too bad. Blade is busy with this Vampire storyline starting now in the X-Men books. If Dane's in it though it feels like Faiza should be somehow included (there could be some fun with the old Sersi flame there).

I would be interested to see how Sersi and Dane would interact now.

Sersi may not even remember Dane, considering all the Eternals had amnesia for a while.

If Nova can be in THANOS IMPERATIVE and SECRET AVENGERS, I don't think some of the cast of MI-13 hopping over the pond at times would hurt. Besides, who says they do? Maybe they battle threats across Europe and the rest of the world? Besides, Union Jack can fill in at MI-13. ;)

Why in the world Union Jack wasn't a regular in that book was beyond me. I really wanted to see the guy join issue one.

I doubt there'd be much of a problem. Dane's got Faiza and Sersi, I believe, was f***ing Makkari after that Eternals mini. Although, a bit of temptation between the two wouldn't be amiss, given how intimately they used to be connected.

Maybe they can pick up Crystal for a 3-way for old time's sake.:awesome:

With Paul Cornell having signed an exclusive with DC, I doubt any more MI-13 material will be in the pipeline for a while. Thus, if Marvel wanted to have some of the characters appear in an Avengers title, it wouldn't really devastate anything. I imagine Union Jack does more black ops stuff while MI-13, headlined by Capt. Britain, are supposed to be more obvious heroes.

This is all speculation, of course. For all we know, Fred Van Lente's Avengers title has nothing to do with characters he's co-writing in Hercules material. Or Hell might have frozen over and Bendis actually is leaving AVENGERS after the first arc. I just doubt that one. Still, if Marvel thinks it can sell another Avengers title, it will add one. I mean, hell, Marvel still is selling about 4 X-Men books and that franchise is past it's prime. They still think they can sell 2 Spidey or Iron Man books when they can't. Deadpool still has about 3-4 titles, as does Wolverine (who REALLY can't sell them). So for all we know this may be some relaunch of MIGHTY AVENGERS or something.

Oh I don't think they'd hook up again (as someone mentioned, Sersi's got the amnesia thing), but just to see how Dane would react to seeing her again, with all they went through.

Some are speculating this might be hinting at a 'Galactic' Avengers title. Perhaps this is what Van Lente will be working on. Also noticed there's no members from the Guardians, so that makes me hope they will still have their own title post-Thanos Imperative

That team would rule so hard.

And Beta Ray Bill's gonna be involved in The Thanos Imperative too? Hell yeah!

And just think, if Bendis is the writer, they'll be kicking ninja ass on the streets all the time

Little does the universe know that The Hand was responsible for Quasar coming back...

I find it weird how he's just carrying his surfboard in one hand, and walking with his pals

Beta Ray Bill hasn't popped up in THANOS IMPERATIVE yet, but I suppose he wouldn't hurt. Tar and feather me, but I've never been a huge fan of horse face. I mean I don't hate him, but I've never gone gaga for him either. Now that's probably an admission that should be in the "Unpopular Comics Opinion" topics.

It is possible that Abnett & Lanning could get a relaunched GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY series, since that was usually outselling NOVA anyway, while Nova and some of his allies get a "space Avengers" series with Van Lente. He'll be including the Silver Surfer in the CHAOS WAR stuff he does alongside Greg Pak, so there is some connection. Still, I would hate for Abnett & Lanning to have Nova plucked from them after all this time, especially as his Corps have just started. Although I suppose if he had to be, Van Lente would be a good choice.

I didn't think of that when I posted that, but if there was to be a 'Space Avengers' title, DnA would probably head it. Unless they would handle the general Nova Corps while Van Lente handled him in this theoretically Avengers title.

I don't know, it's the only new potentially Avengers title that's been hinted at that I'm aware, so it kind of popped in my head this might he his project.

It isn't a bad theory. It's not like Fred Van Lente isn't a good writer who can't handle far out, god-sized adventures. Silver Surfer will be popping up in CHAOS WAR, which he'll be co-writing. Quasar was a former Avenger and Nova is a current SECRET AVENGER. I've seen more far fetched theories than this.

The space books are getting relaunched, at best. Sales for both GOTG and NOVA had fallen to about 21-22k a month and that is below Marvel's tolerance for ongoing series these days. But, both had lasted over two years; Nova had lasted for three. THANOS IMPERATIVE has seen a boost in sales from where NOVA and GOTG finished off - not as big a boost as for WAR OF KINGS, but still a boost of some 10-15k copies. Marvel editorial have usually responded that they like the space books, know they have a loyal audience and want to bring that world into Marvel. Joe Quesada said as much at the PLANET HULK screening I attended at the start of the year in New York. Having Nova be in SECRET AVENGERS was part of that plan. If Marvel thinks they can sell another Avengers title (besides the 4 they have now), they will. Hell, Marvel still thinks they can sell 4 X-Men books and often sells 4 Deadpool or Wolverine books. Fred Van Lente has written for ASM lately so it isn't as if Marvel hates the guy and just pigeon holes him into INCREDIBLE HERCULES stuff.

For all we know, Abnett & Lanning could decide after about 2-3 years to call it a run on the space books after IMPERATIVE and Van Lente is being seen as the line's new master.

I'm simply saying that as a fan of Abnett & Lanning, it would be a shame if they didn't get to write NOVA anymore, as I did like how they handled him. I doubt Van Lente would do any harm, but just saying. For all we know, both NOVA and GOTG are getting relaunched AND Fred Van Lente will write a Space Avengers book. We don't know yet. Frankly I would be surprised if Marvel decided to permanently axe both NOVA and GOTG considering both ran for over two years. They gave MOON KNIGHT a relaunch (VENGEANCE O THE MOON KNIGHT) and his prior volume hadn't lasted as long as NOVA had. Black Panther's title has sold far worse and that keeps getting relaunches. A compromise would be some sort of $4 anthology that merged both titles written by Abnett & Lanning, but we just don't know.

I will say, as a fan of pipe dreams, if Van Lente wanted to pluck a random X-Man during this whole HEROIC AGEY thing, it should be Colossus. The poor fellow's done nothing but mope and lose fights for about 15 years, and that's not counting the years he was dead. He needs to try escaping the X-ghetto like Beast or Pete Wisdom if he's ever going to have a chance to grow, I'd say. He's got a useful power set (class 85-100 tanker, immune to suffocation, resistant to black magic) for a team. I'm still irritated that Joe Casey teased me with him on THE LAST DEFENDERS.

People kill me with this. Out of somewhere around 120 Avenger comics written by Bendis he had ninjas show up in two connecting arcs lasting a total of 7 issues, both having to do with Echo, who was a ninja, so it makes sense.

His use of ninjas actually made sense, and it was used sparingly and dropped quickly. I just don't see the point of this mock that is used every single time anyone wants to mock Bendis. He's given us a lot of stuff that's genuinely mockworthy and deserved, ninjas isn't one of them.

The ninja thing was kind of tongue-in-cheek, I know that the Bendvengers have done more than fight ninjas, but I still think it's still kind of a nice generalization for the more street level approach he's done with the 'Earth's Mightiest Heroes', but yeah, you got me I guess :p

Yeah, street level I can take, because that's definately accurate. But not the ninja thing. You could say "Super powered gangs" and it makes more sense, but for most people, that's not Bendis-Bashing enough, so it doesn't fly.

My ass was just kicked by looking at this photo.

That said, I don't think it's a new Avengers thing. It's just awesome. Too awesome to sustain itself.
