Fred Van Lente creates a New Power Man

So, 'Where's my money, honey?' Has it been dropped yet?

I haven't heard that line in a while. Cage is more of a general hero than a dude for hire these days (unless Rand occasionally pays expenses or something). He barely says, "Sweet Christmas!" anymore.

Ah, that kind of sucks :(

Oh well, I'll still probably check out the Power Man/Iron Fist mini. I hope he drops that line, though

You're not reading SHADOWLAND: POWER MAN? It's essential to the secondary mini. Like seeing A NEW HOPE before EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.

It is? No, I haven't been. I've been skipping everything Shadowland since I don't follow it, don't really follow that area of the MU, events suck, etc. I guess I'll have to pick up the trade

The SHADOWLAND side mini's, at least POWER MAN, have had very little to do with the event itself. They're no different than an ongoing series that acknowledges what is going on elsewhere and uses that for ore, but it isn't a direct sequential part of the story, like SECOND COMING chapters were.

Yeah, well, if it's got an event tag I don't really buy if I'm not already buying an ongoing that it pops up on. If it's essential, I'll just pick up the trade or something

Fair enough. I was just giving you an idea of it.

Besides, Marvel usually tries to rook people on the trades with "mini hardcovers", so it could be quite a wait. :(

SHADOWLAND: POWER MAN #3 (of 4) Preview

Cool preview. SHADOWLAND: POWER MAN has been great, and I am glad Van Lente will have another six issues to continue his story from it. After all, six issues is about what to expect for many new titles these days. :p

POWER MAN AND IRON FIST #1 & #2 (OF 5)
Written by FRED VAN LENTE
Penciled by WELLINTON ALVES
Covers by MIKE PERKINS
Charging from the pages of SHADOWLAND comes the collector’s item first ever POWER MAN & IRON FIST #1! When Danny Rand transformed his multinational corporation into a non-profit foundation, he thought he had left fighting behind – but with so many innocents wrongly convicted, the battle never ends! Their first case is Luke Cage and Danny Rand's former secretary Jennie Royce, imprisoned for a murder she didn't commit…or did she? And Iron Fist isn’t fighting alone -- he's got a new partner with him: Victor Alvarez, the all-new Power Man, he of the exploding punches – and exploding temper! Can Danny train his new charge well enough to face returning foil El Aguila as well as new threats Don Pagliacci, the Commedia Dell’Morte, and the beautiful, deadly Noir? That’s right, Marvel’s original mismatched action duo begins a new era of greatness right here!
32 PGS./Rated A …$2.99

I'll probably be picking that up. Good to see it's $2.99, too

To be honest, while SHADOWLAND: POWER MAN is an excellent series, sales have been very dire. Fred Van Lente should be thrilled that he was assured another five issues of material before sales were known. It's good news for Iron Fist fans, and I do wonder if including him in the title will aid in sales. After all, IMMORTAL IRON FIST ended with sales around 23-25k, and trust me, some Marvel comics would KILL for that.

Wow, looking at that cover again, the new PM's face looks deformed or something

#1 and #2 will be coming out in February, here's the cover to #2:

Looks like Danny will be keeping the white suit, as he's also wearing it on the covers for NA #9 and Heroes for Hire #3. :awesome:

What is the reason for Iron Fist's white suit again? Just decided to change his clothes or did it come with some sort of power mastery thing? I don't read NEW AVENGERS, so I missed it.

To be honest, I still find it distracting, like he took tips from Phoenix. What next, he'll eat an entire galaxy when he gets upset? :p

"Crooked cops and pimps? You playing, Iron Fist? Why do I have to do **** for them?"
"So you don't become them!"

Solid exchange, I thought.

The preview really offers no surprise to the end of the last cliffhanger, but really, this mini isn't about too many surprises, it's about introducing a new legacy character (to TWO legacies) and executing things well. So far, it is. Sales for this mini have been dire, but fortunately, a 5 issue sequel is scheduled in advance, and likely being worked on as we type. I'm really enjoying this, and feel Iron Fist couldn't find himself in better hands right now than Fred Van Lente (aside for Fraction & Brubaker of course, but that era's past).

Curious it reminds you of Phoenix so much as the white look for her has been a bit minority compared to the red and green.

Anyhow, Danny was pulled into some magical dimension or something by Agmotto (I think that's his name... Eye of Agmotto right?). Upon his return he was wearing the white uniform and nothing much has been said about it. I like it but I prefer the green and yellow. It might just take some getting use to is all, though.

Wait, so Bendis, who literally has spent an entire page's worth of chatter to tell a urine joke, doesn't give vital exposition when it REALLY matters?

Yeah, typical. :o

It was implied in the previous issue that he was touched by a very powerful magical force (Agmotto) and it left an impression... namely his costume. It's a crappy reasoning but it's the best we're left with.
