The Vegan/Vegetarian Thread

I’m still an ultra-beginner level cook but I definitely need to eat less meat. Freezing would suit me too. I like making a tonne in one go and having it last a long time.
Make sure you wait for the frying pan to heat up, maybe 4 minutes on the stove, then pour some oil, then place the burgers. :D

I know there is a recipe with chickpeas and some green herbs to make it green, but I need to find the one. Does the one you like have carrots and other chopped veggies in it?

The veggie burgers that I used to get? I didn't used to follow any recipe for other things, just made the burgers by themselves in the oven. :hehe:

I cut out processed meat probably a month or 2 ago now and replaced it with beans, chick peas and lentils. This was a very easy change to make, like a switch. So at home I eat all fruit, veg, nuts, seeds and those protein sources (as well as a protein shake).

Was still having meat in takeaways but now found quite a few great places for both eat-in and takeaway food that gives me my junk fill without having to completely knock myself out as I get from most junk food (especially at my portions :D ). I’m probably 95% vegetarian now and 85% vegan. The main exception is cheese in pizzas haha.

i am not a vegetarian or vegan but i don't mind trying dishes without meats. a couple years ago a few friends from work and I participated in "meatless mondays" for a few months to try and eat a little healthier and switch things up.

i don't eat much red meat, when i do, it's mostly in burger form or in spaghetti but even recently i've been swapping that for ground turkey and actually liked it. i don't have to have meat with every meal and wouldn't mind trying some new things so i look forward to the recipes and suggestions shared here

I was a vegetarian for about 30 years (lived in Santa Cruz). I wasn't vegan, but only ate eggs occasionally. Kept with the dairy, but never felt like I needed supplements. All of my blood work came out great so I never took them. A little off topic, but I'm always low in hemoglobin and it has nothing to do with my diet. My cells are smaller than normal. The doctor checked it out and said I'm perfectly healthy. Because of the way my cells are, the way they test leads to a result that suggests I'm low, but I'm really not......if that makes sense to people.

I make a bad, BAD ass meatless lasagna. I can use cheese (tastes better) or a substitute (like soy).

30 years, wow. That’s a long time. What made you switch back? All the culinary delights you and DK have been knocking out?

Marriage. My wife is a Jewish girl who likes ham and bacon. LOL. I finally gave up and just ate what was cooked. She eats less meat and I eat more. We're sort of like Congress passing a bill.

TBH, being a vegetarian for so long really helped me be more creative and a better cook. It's probably why I like to improvise so much.

I'm going to try some vegetarian/vegan recipes. Some black bean brownies, chickpea cookies, and avocado pudding. I'm stuck between Semi-vegetarian and pescatarian right now. My transition to veganism was put on hold.

went meatless this year (so, like 9 month full in, now) I don't know if I'd even classify my diet as vegetarian (definitely not full vegan, yet, if I even do eventually go full) prefer to not really put a label on it at all, but...

it's been interesting learning all the different substitutes for things/ doing more of my own cooking, and trying out new vegetarian/vegan brands/products
(I try to buy vegan when I can, been cutting back on cheese/dairy, eggs, so using vegan cheeses, almond/oat/coconut milks products a lot more) but I don't go the lengths of worrying about what's in my bread, cookies, cake, snack's that I still occasionally enjoy (but do try to limit myself)

I wouldn't really say I started it as a "diet", but have noticed some health-benefits (in addition to working out more regular as well, tho) so, hard to say what contributed more... it was more of a combination of both I guess
that said not going to try to make any claim/condone going vegetarian as a weight loss method (with any diet effects vary from person to person) but I did personally drop 15 pounds this year

I will say going meatless has not effected my work out (to any myth/theorys of not eating meat making you weaker) as long as you still eating a balanced diet

totally forgot I even posted in here...

since it's been bumped from 2 years ago, I'll give a quick update

still vegetarian, went mostly vegan this past year (not super strict about it) but, I've been meat products/dairy free

I made a killer lentil soup the other day; says the guy with the most anti-climactic post of all.

Went to the beach over the weekend, not expecting to find many vegan options at all the fresh seafood restaurants in the area.... found a place that had vegan "crab"cakes and even a "not-lobster"-roll (with heart of palm) as alternatives optionsIMG_20230923_185624151.jpgIMG_20230923_190703063.jpg
...Thought I'd just be living off of side salads and Fries while out there

I really admire the commitment of vegetarians. I did Mediterranean for about 5-6 years where I ate primarily fish as my primary protein source (with chicken thrown in once a week. But I’ve never been able to go completely vegetarian.

I hear a lot of people who say the thought of eating meat grosses them out. But for me, I feel that way about mushrooms. I struggle with the idea of eating fungus. (I love blue cheese though, so I am a bit of a hypocrite.)

It's not difficult at all for me, which I'm happy about. Feels more like being a picky eater. Like my dad will eat around a single, decorative olive in his salad. I don't want it. It's not tempting at all. Been a vegetarian for 25 years now.

Actually, every time I give something up, after a while I don't want it anymore. Last year I ditched coffee, now every time I try it's just disappointing. :funny: The smell alone is bleh now, same with meat.

I'll never be a vegan, but my dermatologist suggested I cut out dairy. I've replaced most things at this point, that'll have to be good enough. He also said to not eat anything soy, which. Fine. I guess.
