The Virtual Reality Thread: Bye, Bye Real Life

I looked up some youtube videos on different devices and I think I'll probably end up going for the Microsoft HoloLens.

Probably a lot of collectors going for it

alot of people want this to happen as I said. hopefully the price's come down though.

Oculus Rift is coming soon and the HoloLens is coming out mid or late this year right? What other AR/VR devices are there and when are they coming out?

If I do become more interested, I have no idea how to compare and know which one is for me.

there's valves own with HTC VR set and ms has another one be sides hololens(<which is AR) and sony has two VR machines which has it's own thread inthe sony area since it's exclusive.

for now Nintendo isn't doing it. Bsides I don't think their share holders would go for it(cost wise andanumber of other reasons). Nintenndo is doing fine money wise though. and they're in the middle of showcasing their new console this year not release but show casing as in talking about and showing what it looks like.

Developer sets are different than the main products right? Because I just read that the HoloLens is being released to developers mid 2016 and is rumored to be sold for $3,000

well yeah but I don't really know the full details to that, but they are different . it also not the same as the other VR device Ms has for the system Xbone for now. .

You know over the years i believe that there's gonna be a new wave of peripheral that not only support VR devices, but make the entire experience more interactive and immersive.

Take this developed product called the Nimble VR

[YT]v_U3BmDlmtc[/YT]

It's a small camera like device that accurate scans your hands and fingers and tracks each movement in real time and translates it on screen.

Not only are the amounts of video game immersion ideas you can potentially use this for gaming are incredibly high, but it could also be used for many other applications in different fields from medicine the retail as this video demonstrates.

HoloLens is pretty much an AR computer, so I would not be surprised if it had a price tag north of $1500.

Is it true that you need a high end pc to run the HTC or Rift? HoloLens better not need some other device to run it either!

Apparently you also need a high end Samsung cell phone to power it's VR, Good thing I have a Galaxy S6.

Yes, the Oculus and HTC Vive need a high end computer. HoloLens has all that built into the headset with a proprietary GPU called an HPU.

Industry analysts react to Oculus Rift’s $600 price tag

What was your reaction when you found out that to hop on board the Oculus Rift train, you were going to need to drop $600 on it? That price point really makes one weigh how important virtual reality is to a gamer.

Many games industry analysts are struggling with a proper response to the Rift’s cost as well. Some are saying that it’s a little too pricey (even “overly optimistic”), especially considering the computer specs required to run it, while others say that it might be selling at a loss.
Minority Media CEO Vander Caballero commented, “As a game developer, I wish the Rift had come in at a lower price point to help speed up the adoption of VR and recoup our investment faster. As an avid fan of VR, I understand the frustration about the Rift’s price, but I’m not surprised.”

The HTC and Oculus needing a pc instantly ruins any interest now since I'm not a pc user and so can't use them. The HoloLens probably won't be released for all consumers until closer to 2020, so until the I'llc just continue focusing on my Xbox One.

I may look into the Samsung VR device but am betting it's not much compared to the big ones

TX don't let that fool you I saw the EPN.Tv review team test out VR for consoles with de pads the pc one is what's coming out first (sice dev's and other consle rep state the the ps4 and Xbox are pc's these days) and the other consoles will fallow.

Here's what new.

Million Arthur VR tech demo showcased in Japan
Published 4 hours ago. 9 comments.
It's not a product, but the interest is there.

Million-Arthur-VR-Demo-Maihama.jpg

Square Enix showcased a virtual reality version of its popular mobile card-based RPG Million Arthur on the HTC Vive during a Million Arthur Festival at the Maihama Amphitheater in Chiba today.

The video showed a 3D battle against the “Chimera” boss. The player moved his arms to select cards and initiate the final slash. At the end of the battle, everyone grouped together for a celebratory high-five.

Million Arthur producer Hiroaki Iwano said that while this is only a demo, after seeing the reaction, he’d like to make it into a product, somehow or another.

Watch the demo below.

Global Chat: Oculus Rift, GW2’s philosophy shift, and emulator exploration

January 27, 2016 5 Comments

The high cost of Oculus Rift brought a lot of discussion to the MMO blogosphere recently, with writers taking sides for and against the price, the platform, and the possible future of virtual reality gaming.

“I guess for me virtual reality has been this failed promise for so long that I have doubted that it would actually really arrive,” Tales of the Aggronaut wrote. “It gets even more risky when you start thinking back to horror stories of peripherals touting new and interesting ways to play games that didn’t make it,” Overly Positive cautioned. “VR is a part of the future, not the future,” In An Age noted.

When the dust settles, will people buy? Nobody can seem to agree on this. “I am more concerned with it being the price of ‘scare away adoption’,” Sagacyte said. “The Oculus Rift goal to make VR more of a mainstream thing seems to contradict its pricing,” The Tankquisition stated. “That price, for all the loud complaints it has yielded, doesn’t seem to be hurting the popularity of the pre-orders,” The Ancient Gaming Noob observed.

Beyond virtual reality, our round-up of MMO blog posts today includes an exploration of emulators, a criticism of Guild Wars 2’s philosophy shift, and more!
