The Viva Pinata Hype Thread (that's right, ANOTHER)

Me and this chick named Sharon went to ETSU's cafeteria thing called "Main Meal" after Sociology 1020 one time....that place is disgusting. The eggs tasted like blood/copper, ugh :(:down

Our eggs taste like a mix of chemicals that are expected/hoped to taste like eggs.

It feels and looks like soy, so maybe that's what it is?

The problem with Rare is, they aren't that good.

See, I don't just think Goldeneye is overrated now...I thought it was overrated at the time, too. I played it once and thought it was crap.
Killer Instincts was also pretty crappy. I played Perfect Dark zero, and guess what? Crap.

The one game I sort of like is Conker, and that's more to do with sense of humour and movie references than it actually being great gameplay wise.

So yeah, I think Microsoft wasted cash on them. Viva LOOKS interesting, but quite frankly, from what I have played of Rare's other games, I doubt it will be a full price purchase for me if or when I do opt to get it.

In my opinion, Conker sucked, Banjo Kazooie is a series worthy of all praise and Goldeneye(possibly) and Perfect Dark(definitely) are still in the top five best FPSs ever released.

Rare is great. I've enjoyed every single game they've put out since the buyout, more than I enjoy most games. If you want to hate them, meh, whatever, but I'm not buying into the "omg rare suckz without nintendo!11!" hype from 2002.

Since the buyout:

Grabbed by the Ghoulies - absolutely loved it.
Conker - I probably would have liked it more if I didn't play it on N64.
Kameo - a great game in every sense, but Kameo really needed a sword.
Perfect Dark Zero - a fun game that's a perversion to the original.

Grabbed by the Ghoulies - A game that was just really, really good. It had great visuals, with a really cool style to go along with it, fun gameplay that was like a beat-em-up throw back, and the Rare charm. It was kind of short, and I can see how someone would be disappointed if they expected more than a pretty beat-em-up, but I loved it.

Conker - This game still looks better than most 360 games. I agree that if you had played the crap out of the n64 version that this probably wouldn't appeal to you, but if you hadn't (like me), this was an awesome game. It's a shame this isn't BC.

Kameo - Beautiful game with a charming/quirky little fantasy setting, and easily the best 360 launch game. I agree that Kameo really needed a sword (beheading trolls as you charge with the horse would have been immense), but other than that, it's really hard for me to find things wrong with this game. I honestly can't wait for the sequel.

Perfect Dark Zero - A good looking FPS that deserved the 9/10 that gamespot gave it, but got a lot of **** because of its name, rightfully so. The setting was bad, and the art style didn't seem right....but still, the gameplay was awesome, and made up for the story being total ass. Not a good Perfect Dark game, but on it's own merits, an amazing FPS.

I'll agree Perfect Dark Zero had great gameplay, but it wasn't Perfect Dark. It's like Rare just decided to copy Halo's gameplay syle exactly (the only developer who's ever been able to pull that off, but sadly they would have been better off keeping it their own way) and just put it into a lame scenario with bad art.

Come to think of it, PDZ had REALLY good gameplay... wow. It just had a pretty sour campaign and as I said, bad art.

Rare needs to make another FPS pronto. Give them some FASA license and let them have it.

They don't need a FASA license, they just need to use the ORIGINAL Perfect Dark setting. I personally thought that it was one of the cooler settings around, it was disappointing to see it disappear in PDZ. Hopefully that changes with PD2, which I'm sure is well under way.

I agree. I think Perfect Dark was one of the best IPs for a FPS, but then Rare seemed to just not care about it in PDZ and neutralized it. More cartoony, goofy... gah. A perversion!

PD2 needs to be like PD. Dark, moody, practical, a good story... you know... more Deus-Exful.

Isn't that the truth though? Deus Ex is a flawless IP, and Eidos killed it.

When you apply it though...

Halo with more Deus Ex = better Halo
Gears of War with more Deus Ex = better Gears of War
Perfect Dark with more Deus Ex = better Perfect Dark
Banjo Kazooie with more Deus Ex = better Banjo Kazooie
Zelda with more Deus Ex = better Zelda
SplinterCell with more Deus Ex = better SplinterCell
Metal Gear Solid with more Deus Ex = generation of a black whole because two polar opposites of quality cannot combine, because Deus Ex is high-class, high-intelligence, slick and satisfying and Metal Gear Solid is a ****ty game about ****ty robots with ****ty characters with stupid names fighting for stupid causes and all this crap goes on for no reason. People die and come back to life and the plot contradicts itself so many times in an attempt to look samrt but it just ends up looking ******ed.

I don't hate them by a long shot...but I certainly don't think they are as good as most people make them out to be. Conker is the ONE rare game I can honestly say I found remotely memorable. I honestly don't think much of the other output I have played. But I am willing to give Vivva a shot, since they are not the worst developers either, and it seems kinda intriguing.

Impossible. Zelda has already reached perfection in Ocarina of Time.

It would be better with a government conspiracy plot, interesting characters, stealth and more interactivity.

Ocarina of Time should have let you play after you beat it. And have multiple endings like Deus Ex.

They have interesting characters. Other than that it sounds like you want a Zelda version of 24.

" NAVI! I NEED A MAP TO GET TO THE MOUNTAINS OF IOWA IN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES!!!"

"What the hell? Since when does Iowa have mountains?"

"DAMN IT NAVI JUST DO IT!!"

I got Viva Pinata the other day with my new Toys R Us credit card...I havent really formed an opinion on it yet, played for about 2 hours so far...it's...different :o

Tell me you did not buy Viva Pinata before Gears of War.
