The "Where You At?" thread

I'm originally from Huntsville Alabama, and I went to college in Tuscaloosa. Just graduated so I'm doing a fellowship that lets me go to a bunch of cities and towns for the next year tracking storm patterns and whatnot. People give me a lot of **** for being from that state, I get a lot of stereotypes thrown at me for it, but man it really is a beautiful place. Sure we have our hillbillies and racists but we also have a lot of smart, warm and friendly folks there. I've been trying to figure out if I want to stay in the state and I'm finding that the more and more I go north, people are a lot more stuck up. I'll probably go back once the next year is over because I really do miss it, even all its flaws.

Im smack dab in the middle of the bible belt in good ol Owensboro Ky. We had the last public hanging and we have the worlds largest sassafrass tree! But who cares this place sux. It aint to small about 80-100 thousand people but KY just sux period. I hate living around so many damn rednecks the only plus is the absolutely just ******ed stuff that comes outta there mouths sometimes. Like some people here are just plain stupid its really kinda sad to me sometimes

Kentucky? That's just a Bible Belthole. :woot:

While in the lounge, myself and a few other posters were discussing our home towns. It got me thinking about all my friends on The Hype! that I converse with regularly, yet I don't know where they live.

So I searched for a thread like this, and after I couldn't find one I thought it would be a good idea to start one.

So this thread is all about your home town. Where you live, what you love about it, what you hate about it and what your town is known for.

Maybe someone else on The Hype lives down the street form you, and you never even knew!
Please fell free to post pics of your town for all of us who like to travel so we can get a good visual.

I will start the discussion off by introducing my home town:

Tampa, Fl!

Tampa is the best town I have ever been to and I am glad to call it home.
Widely known for it's night life, beaches, and rich history, Tampa is known for many things, such as it's skateboarding community (Tampa has been featured in Tony Hawk games and an episode of Rob and Big) and it's mafia origins earned the city the nick name "The Cigar City", as read in the book "The Cigar City Mafia".
Clearwater, part of the Tampa Bay area, is the birthplace of Scientology and it's not uncommon to spot the likes of Tom Cruise and John Travolta. Speaking of John Travolta, Tampa was setting for the movie "The Punisher".

Tampa has a a Super-bowl ring AND a Stanley Cup. It is also the home to many pro wrestlers, such as Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, Chris Jericho and The Big Show.

In 2008, Tampa was ranked as the 8th cleanest city in America by Yahoo! Real Estate and 5th best outdoor city by Forbes. A 2004 survey by the NYU newspaper ranked Tampa as a top city for 20-somethings.

And you haven't lived untill you have been to Gasparilla. It is Mardi-Gras with PIRATES!
Represent, homie.

I live a little north af Tampa. Wesley Chapel (Tampa area).

Kids? I had trouble finding it when I first started driving. Down town is a confusing place to drive. I'm sure that other, bigger states don't even compare but still...

If not teens than yeah that would be a bit disturbing.

To be fair, the gas station attendant had just moved there from Chicago, ironically. The furniture store next door was staffed by some cute girls in their 20's or 30's and they did a google search for me. It was still confusing because of the construction but like I said, I'm from Illinois. We have a saying that we only have two seasons: winter and construction. So I cant complain too much about road repairs.

Toronto, with our glorious phallic monument.

The only area that I really care about here is the Annex.

I also lived in Hamilton for the last 5 years (very cool working class city, FANTASTIC music scene), and in September I'm moving to...Windsor (:waa:)

Good God, Watson I thought you were English too!

I've been to Toronto when I was 10. A gay parade passed us when we were walking to our hotel. That was disturbing...

Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

Greatest. City. Ever.

(aside from Orlando)

LOL! From Beckley, West Virginia myself. I don't personally have any nice photos of this place but I found some good ones on the internet:

The top pic is of the town itself. The bottom one is a building called Tamarack. It's like a giant artisan shop. Very nice things for sale, but *highly* expensive!

I'm from Oak Hill, WV.

You thought I was English? I actually take that as a huge compliment. I love all things English! But alas I am Canadian, so we are only distant cousins :)

Toronto PRIDE is the 2nd biggest Pride celebration in the world, and actually a lot of fun no matter where you stand sexually. As long as you're open minded lol.

Better than Toronto????

:oldrazz:

Honestly I think I've been there. Well I think I've been in a Wendy's there on the way to Windsor. It was a nice Wendy's I guess?

Well, your user name made me think so. I'd like to got to England some day though.

And the mall in Toronto was cool. It was the summer of 2002 and I remember constantly seeing MIB 2 bilboards.

Keep in mind I was 10 years old when I saw that and had no idea about gay people. Suddenly seeing bright colors and half naked men smiling while so close to each other disturbed me.

Really? I know tons of people from there. We all work at the same place. :yay:
Do they still have that awesome antiques place in Oak Hill?

And if I had to be perfectly honest about it, I would say that Chicago is like a giant ghetto with one nice part right in the middle; like how there's always that one area in a rough neighborhood that's actually really nice and kinda quiet but as soon as you go one block and turn the corner you're in the REALLY bad part.

So, the best part is pretty much the downtown area (The Loop) and a few places on the North Side and Hype Park. You've got the museums, theaters, Millenium Park, the Art Institute, everything; although it would be cool if there was actually a mall down here.

I pretty much agree with you. The Loop is great, everywhere else...eh(Millenium and Grant Park, Graham Crackers Comics, Gene Siskel Film Center, etc.)

the die hard Cubs fans, etc.

Dude, I used to live in Wrigleyville. It was deafening, April-October.:csad:

Thank god I live in Evanston now.

Though I live in San Diego, CA. my hometown is Tecate, Baja California which is not well known though most people are aware of the beer named Tecate, which originated from the city.

What I don't like about it is the hot dry weather in the summer and since it's a relatively small town, almost everyone knows each other and news/rumors travel fast. Apart from that it is a quite relaxed environment which I love.
