The Amazing Spider-Man The "why reboot the Spider-Man franchise" Thread?

Auto-spellcheck does make for some hilarious misunderstandings sometimes. Not this time of course, but y'know, in general.

More than anything, I would love to see Mysterio on the big screen.

Agreed. I think there's a lot of potential to have a villain that can create really any illusion.
These

Doesn't he just steal stuff? Spider-Man defeats Mysterio's illusions to undercover his plot to...steal stuff! I think that would be a bit too anti-climactic for my tastes.
This sums up my problem with a lot of the B-list villains of the Lee-Ditko/Romita era: They're just generic hoods with superpowers.
He had more ambition early in his days adapted nicely well in SM2 the game (before the funny fiight in the grocery store), has the potential to be a movie threat

I think that most of the more well-known Spider-Man villains could be fair game film except for the redundant/copycat characters like Hobgoblin or Carnage.

I would actually be ok with Carnage or Hobgoblin on sequel.
But yes, to general audience they will feel very repetitive

I'm not saying that I don't like them, just that I think they won't. With Hobgoblin and Carnage, you need to set up both Green Goblin and Venom before you can use them.

I agree with you, too.
I highly doubt if we'll ever see them on the sequel because like you said, they need to have Green Goblin and Venom first.
Maybe they can do something like Goblin War or Carnage & Venom storyline from 90s TAS.
But that's just my wishful thinking.

Personally, I do not ever want to see Venom team up with Spider-Man to fight Carnage. Venom works best as Spidey's great adversary, not his uneasy ally.

Is anyone else really hoping that they slowly build on making Norman the final villain of the series. I mean even just the progression of mentioning him by name in TASM, then giving him some screen time in TASM 2 with him being revealed as evil at the very end, and devoting all of TASM 3 to him. God I think I'd just about **** if there was a huge overarching story like that.

Yes yes yes, a million times yes.
The way they're setting up Oscorp in this one I'd say it's definitely within the realm of possibility. Here's to hoping this one does well enough to warrant a trilogy

Hoping... Wishing... EXPECTING :cwink:

If they fail do do that (ESPECIALLY casting Gwen in this Reboot), then they TRUELY do not understand the character or the mythology.

But again, I fully expect (and hope) for the slow build. And that, is a good thing. Slowly build Norman's character where he is a fully fleshed (motivations, persona, etc.)... when he is completely incorporated into the storyline. Where he is not some cardboard cutout villain... where... HE IS a REAL Goblin this time. *hyperventalates* :woot:

Man, I think this is gonna be soooo frickin good. Cannot wait. It's the top movie for me over the next year... PERIOD... Bar None.

Yeah that

Venom not only has alot of potential and is a very interesting character, but I'd also love to see black suit Spidey again. Just as the symbiote corrupted Eddie Brock,it's also very fascinating to see it's impact of Spidey/Peter Parker. Just as Eddie/Venom was screwed over in Spider-man 3,I think black suit Spidey was as well...though not to the same extent.

Agreed.

It was sad to see him dancing like that. The symbiote should have been like crack to him. I wish it would have been more like The ring and frodo instead of boogie nights.

If you guys have ever seen the Spider-man 3 review over at http://www.wearegeeksnotnerds.com/ they have the perfect criticism for the black suit in Spider-man 3. They pretty much say that the symbiote should not be played for laughs. And that the black suit should scare us(the audience)just like it should scare Peter. I couldn't agree more.

Agreed!

Two scenes they should've kept in: That scene with the mirror and the one right before Peter visits Harry where he looks at the black suit in his chest and gives a little evil grin.

Venom just simply needed to stay out of SM3 and much of the movie would have been fine.

Venom should've been a cliffhanger in spidey 3. Think about all the hype we would of had for that movie if he was saved for 3. Trust me when i say this that venom will definatly appear in this franchise. We got oscorp and we have peter's parents who have a connection to the suit in the ultimate comic's. So GG and venom will definatly show up.

If given right storyline, I believe Sandman would've worked.
Having him and Vulture would have worked.......maybe..

Agreed. Love him or hate him, Venom is here to stay as a fixture in the Spider-Man franchise, just as Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus are.

I preferred having Harry Osborn and the symbiote.
