I think Jackman's transformation is just as importance for the performance and just as impressive. But no.... awards people are only interested in actors that LOSE weight for movies (Matthew McC. in Dallas Buyers Club, I'm talking about you!).
I don't know about the Unrated cut, but the theatrical cut of THE Wolverine was really gruesome to me... with a sword through his body, arrows stuck to his back etc etc. The only other gruesome scene in any X-men film is when Wolverine is fighting Lady Deathstrike and they're poking each other repeatedly.
If I had to guess I think Mangold left it out because having that scene implies that Logan WILL be wearing the suit in his next appearance and I don't think Mangold wanted to give anybody unrealistic expectations as he probably did not know what was going to happen in DOFP or even if he'd be doing another Wolverine movie. If he had left that scene in and Logan ended up not suiting up in DOFP or his next solo movie then the fans would be like "WTF? Why isn't he wearing the suit they teased at the end of his last movie???". He probably figured "this'll be something nice for the fans when the blu ray comes out, let's just film this for fun".
Relax. Why does everything have to be a hate war? That hate is not on these boards. The majority are fans of the film, and wanted it left cause its exciting and just wanted a chance to see it. Myself included.
But I agree with Kguilliou's post. If we are not seeing the mask in DOFP then that would have been an odd set up and definitely gave expectations.
I know this isnt really the topic but the DOFP trailer did look 10 times better on the big screen compared to You Tube. Worked so much better and now cant wait for it...........but I want Wolverine 3 even more now!!
It's like I've heard a few people complain about the extended cut not being the one released into theaters. Well, if it's better now, and you can watch it whenever you want...what's the problem?
I think Jackman said something originally about how it was much more serious, and although loved the Mangold version, still wanted to see what Darren's would have been like. The first comment isn't surprising, given Aaronofsky's track record.
