:hehe:

Lucy Lawless thought so too:

@RealLucyLawless
#Xena meets @Spartacus? At least she's not a 'feminist'!“@girlgamer: What do you think of new #WonderWoman look?? pic.***********/Okzvj11y7z”

It is no surprise that, since they are both woman-warrior costumes drawing on classical influences, there are similarities.

I've just noticed that there appears to be some sort of strap on Wonder Womans right arm connecting to the bodice and that she also has some form of covering on her upper right arm too.

Has anyone else noticed this or am I imagining it?

Yes, I noticed the strap. I think it is just some kind of bangle. It might be significant, or it might just be decoration.

I am not sure about the shoulder/upper arm. I thought that was just shadow from the hair.

It's not the strap, but a belt that holsters her lasso and sword (and presumably shield too).

Edit: Oh, right arm. I don't see anything.

Not seeing anything on her right arm bar some hair. Just a trick of the light I think.

After having been in the original resolution image for Photoshop, I can tell you the bodice is 100% strapless.

Very underwhelming. Looks like a Kardashian in a "sexy" halloween Wonder Woman cosplay.

My point was that Xena was more of a ripoff of WW when she was introduced so I find it ironic that now WW is being called a ripoff of Xena.
I disagree. There was hardly any comparison of the two back when Xena premiered in 1995. There might have been a bit here and there, but it was mostly just bunched in with the fact that there hadn't been a female action heroine on television since WW and The Bionic Woman. Buffy's TV series didn't premiere till halfway through Xena's 2nd Season. Also add in the fact that Xena was a MUCH darker character than WW (she started off as a villain in Hercules). The creators were going for more of a Red Sonja feel than anything WW. Lawless (who stepped into the role when the blonde actress they cast as Xena fell ill) just happened to look like a great candidate for WW herself.

I see your points about the costumes but geez, can't people pick up a comic book before they spout off nonsense (not you but random posters on Yahoo and such) like this?
I think it's best to just ignore Yahoo comments and such. half of them spell Xena as Zena and only know of Wonder Woman by google images of Lynda Carter and the animated series, probably not having ever watched either. BUT like I said, at first glance, when I saw the new WW costume, I thought Xena before I thought Wonder Woman and I love both characters.

I can't remember exactly, but didn't Xena become some sort of Queen of the Amazons near the end of the show? That would make her even more of a WW ripoff.
Xena was never an amazon in the show. Her partner, Gabrielle, was an honorary amazon queen though.

Anyway, I must say that her suit has really grown on to me, I still think that they should gave her pauldrons and maybe raised an eagle a bit higher to cover more of her torso, but the overall look really retains the Wonder Woman visual perfectly, while still improving on it.

I just recently compared these two and realized that Wilkinson actually did a much better job than I initially thought:

By the way, I love the moment from this gif so much, I can see her doing the same with her lasso.

What would get you overwhelmed? Or just whelmed?

A little more creativity I suppose. I'm not a fan of any of the recent costume adaptations be it Affleck's Batman or TASM 2's Spider-Man. They look like high quality cosplay outfits-clearly "well made" on a technical level, and loyal (to a fault imo) to the comic books- but lacking any real imagination or creative zeal... but I guess that this is where the genre is at the moment.

Wouldn't that mean a perfect adaptation of a comic book look?

I liked that fight as well, but dislike the fact only Barda and the other big new god doesn't look like they came out of a birthday cake.

One would think- but not everything from comic book drawings or cartoons always translates well to live action. They end up looking a bit cheap, as it were, imo.

I like it.

I'm guessing the sequel would see her with the "classic" costume, but this just works well, IMO.

*sighs* that internet meme with Xena :(

they shouldnt have drapped her first image too much in copper color now her armour looks bronze/ brown like Xena's

most of the dummies trolls general public keep calling out the Xena similarities, ignorant of the fact that Xena is based on Wonder Woman

Except that she's not.
