The Worst and Best casting

And Anna Paquin isn't even a pretty face...
Oh wow, insulting looks now? That's low.

Besides in the acting business looks should come second to talent, Kitsch is a great fashion model and easy on the eyes, but Paquin has acting chops, sure her looks aren't traditional Hollywood, but at least she's got talent.

Rather have an actor/actress who can actually act than someone who is aesthetically pleasing.

Not really. Weren't you just using Kitsch's looks to insult him (and aren't you doing that now)? So how is that different? How are you any better than me? I guess insulting looks is low when its a girl...?

Maybe looks should matter more than talent, but in Hollywood they don't. And it is your opinion that she is a good actor and that Mr. Kitsch is not. I don't care if she won 10 awards as a child (which I don't get anyway since kids don't really have to act), that just expresses yet another opinion from a small group of people.

It all comes down to the fact that you only liked Kitsch because he was Gambit for about 10 minutes of screentime. :o

No. It comes down to the fact that I liked how he acted based on what he was given to do during those 10 minutes. And the fact that (unlike a lot of people - especially at Marvel) he gets Gambit and has done research into his backstory.

I could say that for you it all comes down to your sexual attraction to Anna Paquin, but I won't. :)

Lol. I'm far from sexually attracted to Paquin, Kistch is totally more my type, if you catch my drift. I just don't think he's all that great of an actor.

Mm-hm. Your previous avatar really didn'tt suggest that... :p

Anyhoo, that's your opinion. But some people don't share it.

Babe, I'm gay. I'm a True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse novel fan. Anna just happens to play (and brilliantly IMO) Sookie in the TV show adaption.

Gays can still find women attractive. Maybe not sexually, but attractive nonetheless.

Anyway, that was just a side point to my overarching argument that this is a matter of opinion and not fact.

I dont find anything wrong with Kitsch's acting. I mean, you cant really judge him from X-Men.
He was fine in the crapfest The Covenant and he's one of the best, damaged characters in FNL.

Patrick Stewart and Kelsey Grammar for sure, they were my picks for their characters since I was about 7.

And Kevin Durand is severely underrated, hope Blob returns.

Best:
-core X-Men
-core Brotherhood
-Stryker (X2)

Worst:
-Angel shoulda been older and an former member like Beast
-Rogue... Paquin is a good actress, but Rogue should've been more hot + southern belle + older... maybe Vanessa Ferlito (kinda reminds me of an early Angelina Jolie) plus does a mean Southern accent... and would match up onscreen with Kitsch should they've ended up together... or even looked right with Wolverine when Mystique turns into her in X2

Corrrect me if im wrong but didnt Anna win an acting award for True Blood. and not one of those teen choice awards...a legitimate acting award (Emmy or golden globe?).

She's hardly a child actor now...

Goes to show you that who's hot and who's not is all a matter of opinion...Im sorry but saying that Anna Paquin was not the right actress to play Rogue as "Rogue should've been more hot + southern belle + older..." and then in the same sentence suggesting Vanessa Ferlito, just made me Laugh out Loud. :csad:

I'm getting the idea that you think Anna Paquin is sexier than Vanessa Ferlito... I think Paquin is a talented actress, and maybe would've been better as Shadowcat, but Ferlito isn't a horrendous actress either....

I'm just saying that she's one girl I could see pulling off the southern belle version of Rogue... she's got the accent down, much sexier body than Paquin, is older... and can act tough and sexy... she has the talent + the look of the character... what's wrong with that?

the fact that they cast her...

as a representation of her...

is what's laughable... YOU CAN'T DENY THAT FERLITO LOOKS LIKE THE TOON PIC

AGAIN, Paquin is a fine actress, and acted (sp) well in the film, but she isn't raunchy enough to be a true representation of comic southern belle Rogue... maybe Shadowcat, but not Rogue... that's like casting Emma Frost with Meryl Streep... the talents all there, but the looks need to be aswell... casting isn't the actors fault, it's the people who cast them in the role, especially when they have an established franchise, with zillions of visual aids and still get the look wrong... it's like saying just because someone looks like a character or certain way they can't act... I suppose Emma Frost should be played by Meryl Streep, I mean she'd totally nail the performance...

IMHO posting that picture of Vanessa Ferlito did not help your case much. IN MY OPINION, and I can't stress that enough, Vanessa is one of those Hollywood actresses that has a nice body but has a distractingly ugly face. And before anyone calls me out from saying that, her looks are fair play here considering that's what the issue was from the original post and she's an actress, whose looks would be judged hand in hand with talent.

Again, my original post was just in reaction to someone saying that Anna does not fit the "hot" character that is Rogue, but then suggesting that Vanessa Ferlito (an actress that *I* always found...not very good looking) for said role.

And nowhere did i mention anything about Ms. Ferlito's talents (or lackthereof, for all I know) as I've only seen her on a couple of shows/movies.

Jean's a bland woman anyways. :o
are u crazy? watch x-men evolution! she is pretty lively there, and yes i know that she was a teen in that show, but she was practically and adlt at the end, and she was still lively and stuff!

Well I guess beauty is really subjective... because I honestly think Ferlito is MUCH hotter and looks more like Rogue than Paquin, I always thought Paquin was rather plain looking, whereas Ferlito has that type of Anglina Jolie appeal, she's not near as attractive, but she has similar features... you make it seem like I'm recasting Halle Berry with Whoopi Goldberg... but I guess, again, beauty is subjective + to each his own

She won the Golden Globe for True Blood. And the Oscar for The Piano, which she absolutely deserved - she was amazing in that. Yes, kids do need to act. :cwink:

In my opinion, throughout the entire series:

The REALLY Good:

-Hugh Jackman (Logan / Wolverine)
-Ian McKellen (Eric Lensherr / Magneto)
-Patrick Stewart (Professor Charles Xavier)
-Alan Cumming (Kurt Wagner / Nightcrawler)
-Kelsey Grammar (Hank McCoy / Beast)
-Brian Cox (Col. William Stryker)
-Liev Shrieber (Victor Creed)
-Danny Huston (Col. William Stryker)
-Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson / Deadpool)

The Good:

-Famke Janssen (Jean Grey)
-James Marsden (Scott Summers / Cylcops)
-Aaron Stafford (John Allerdyce / Pyro)
-Bruce Davison (Senator Robert Kelly)
-Rebecca Romijn (Raven Darkholme / Mystique)
-Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde)
-Taylor Kitsch (Remy LeBeau / Gambit)*

The "Okay"

-Anna Paquin (Marie / Rogue)
-Shawn Ashmore (Bobby Drake / Iceman)

The Bad:

-Halle Berry (Ororo Munroe / Storm)
-Lynn Collins (Kayla Silverfox)
-Daniel Henney (Agent Zero)

* = I put an asterisk next to Gambit because it feels like there are 2 Gambits in the movie.

Gambit, when Logan first meets him, at the poker table, is muy excellente. This performance (albiet short) goes in the REALLY good category, because I cannot think of a better representation of Gambit than what happens at that poker table.

I also love Gambit on the island, very good representation of Gambit being a hero, and in the end, doing what's right. His "Miss me?" line is also very classic Remy.

Gambit in the alleyway, and Gambit in the airplane? I dunno, I can't put my finger on it, but there's just something about those 2 scenes that don't feel quite right. I really don't know what it is.

I love Gambit jumping off the roof and slamming his staff into the street. That is great, and an amazing shot (I am still however, trying to figure out how Gambit got on that roof). But during the actual fight, I dunno there's something that doesn't quite sit right.

I know exactly what you mean. His introduction scene is almost perfect. But in that fight scene and the airplane scene he seems a little off. Maybe it's the attitude. I thought Gambit was way too friendly way too fast. Also the way he fought was stupid and that's not how Gambit fights.

She probably did. But as I said before, that also expresses the opinion of a relatively small group of people.

I mostly agree with what Nell is saying. I'd change some things up, though.
Danny Houston: Okay
Rebecca R.: Really good
Ellen Page: Okay
Daniel Henny: Good
Famke J.: Bad

And yes, Lynn Collins was horrible. How did I forget that?

as much as i loved james marsden as cyclops, he was miscast with the group.

next to famke and hugh jackman, he looked too young and slight. cyclops might be "slim" but he stands tall. he looks like a leader.
