I like Bloom in the commentator chair too. His stock has really risen.
Just when I thought I couldn't like her more.

Judas claims that after his first rushed surgery a talent meeting was held with DeMott and talent relations and they asked anyone with a problem to stand up. Only Paige stood up to complain about harassment from the strength coach
Guys like Demott are lucky that no one really tore off and whupped his ass for some of the **** he pulled. He's very fortunate that he didn't bully the wrong person one day and pay with a beat down. People like that seem to bully the ones that they know won't fight back. Kinda like with Bobby Knight. He choked a guy that he knew wouldn't fight back. Demott had to do the same because I'm sure there are guys out there that wouldn't play that ****.
I feel like this whole Demott situation shows why it's always great to have a guy like Meng/Haku in the locker room. Demott pulls some **** on someone Meng is even slightly fond of, Meng makes him **** his pants in front of the entire locker room.
If Demott had done that to someone like this guy:

or this guy:

if he had been on on the main roster as a producer, Demott would have had the stuffing beat out of him.
Boston rap artist Esoteric, who featured on Cena’s rap album in 2005, appeared on The Asked Show this week to promote his upcoming Czarface 2 album. During the interview, which you can watch below, Esoteric was asked about his longtime friendship with John Cena. Esoteric said that John Cena fought for a heel turn about 5 years ago. Esoteric says he assisted Cena write the angle, which would have seen Cena return to his “Dr. of Thuganomics” battle rap persona. However, the angle was shot down by WWE creative. Esoteric also spoke about writing several of the battle raps John Cena used in 2002 – 2003, including Cena’s first ever rap, and his Undertaker disses.
There's a difference between being a tough teacher and just being a downright *******.
Paige isn't a pushover by any means. That strength coach hopefully learns not to try and take advantage of someone just becusee they are young, cheerful, and friendly.
What is the story with Paige?
Judas claims that after his first rushed surgery a talent meeting was held with DeMott and talent relations and they asked anyone with a problem to stand up. Only Paige stood up to complain about harassment from the strength coach
Jushin Thunder Liger, KUSHIDA, Yohei Komatsu & Jay White vs. Tiger Mask, Ryusuke Taguchi, Mascara Dorada & Sho Tanaka
This was a fun little 8 minute sprint. Dorada, KUSHIDA, and White definitely made the match more fun than your usual chaotic 8-Man NJPW Tag. Tiger Mask's team got the win when Dorada hit the Top Rope Tornillo on White. ***
YOSHI-HASHI vs. Yujiro Takahashi in the First Round of the New Japan Cup.
This sucked. The one thing I look for in Yujiro matches is his Thumb Bite spot and he even managed to screw that up. Outside of that, there was nothing to this match whatsoever. Yujiro advances by hitting the Tokyo Pimps. *
Togi Makabe vs. Tomoaki Honma in the First Round of the New Japan Cup.
This was very good. They played up the fact that they were/are tag team partners and they kind of sensed what moves they were going to do and counter them. As usual, the crowd was fully in support of Honma and every hope spot he had, the crowd went nuts. I counted 8 Kokeshi attempts and Honma hit 3 of them, but it wasn't enough as Makabe got the win by hitting the King Kong Knee Drop and will face Yujiro in the Quarter Finals. Honma continues to be the greatest underdog in wrestling today/ever. ***1/2
Satoshi Kojima vs. Katsuyori Shibata in the First Round of the New Japan Cup.
This was a hell of a fun 8 minute match. They repeated one of my favorite spots from the G1 match where there's a countout tease while both men are too busy hitting forearms on each other to give two ****s. Loved the spot where Shibata no sells the **** out of Kojima's Machine Gun Chops and just murders him with forearms until he hits the CORNER DROPKICK OF DEATH. Shibata eventually gets the win with a GTS and a Penalty Kick and advances. I swear, I would rather get chopped 50 times by Ric Flair in his prime than take one Penalty Kick from Shibata. ****in' hell, that caught Kojima in the jaw. ***1/4
Hirooki Goto vs. Yuji Nagata in the First Round of the New Japan Cup.
Up to this point, this was MOTN. Goto started off by going after Nagata's injured arm, but Nagata finds his way out and proceeds to make Goto humble by kicking him really ****ing hard. Goto returns the favor eventually. The last 3 minutes really make this match great. Goto survives six slaps and hits a Discuss Lariat and then hits the Shouten Kai for the pin, advancing to the next round where he will face his tag team partner Shibata. Nagata rolls to the floor, pissed off and slaps the mat. Nagata gets a ton of camera time as he leaves, the crowd then cheers for him. Great stuff all around, especially in the final 3 minutes. ***3/4
CHAOS (Shinsuke Nakamura, Tomohiro Ishii, and Kazushi Sakuraba) vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Manabu Nakanishi, and Captain New Japan.
Fun little Tag Match. As usual, Nakamura's charisma in this match is cooler than any other wrestler on planet Earth x100. This match was surprisingly carried by Tenzan, who has been a pretty good roll as of late given his age and injuries. The highlight was probably Tenzan mocking the **** out of Nakamura's Corner Vibrations, which got an insane pop. Tenzan hit like 15 Mongolian Chops, which has to be a record. CHAOS eventually got the win when Ishii hit the Brainbuster on Captain NJ. ***1/4
Kota Ibushi vs. Doc Gallows in the First Round of the New Japan Cup.
This was alright. Gallows tossed Ibushi around in the early part of the match. On the floor, Gallows taunts Gedo with the Bullet Club sign, leading Gedo to yell Shut Your Mouth! Shut Your Mouth! Why this happened I don't know, but it was awesome nonetheless. Gallows was out of position on two Dropkicks, but still sold them anyways. Ibushi eventually gets the surprise pin by countering Gallows' Tree Slam into a Hurricanrana into a pin. **
Tetsuya Naito vs. Karl Anderson in the First Round of the New Japan Cup.
Surprisingly, this was the Match of the Night. Anderson attacks at the bell and hits a Apron Bomb on the floor. They tease three near count outs on Naito, with the third coming from an Anderson Dropkick while Naito was hooked in the middle rope. Naito was a ****ing selling machine in this match that would make Dolph Ziggler envious. Anderson hits a nasty single leg dropkick and Naito lands square on the back of his head. Anderson was the perfect foil for Naito heel as he was getting the heat and as the heat grew hotter, Naito was starting to get his hope spots and when he was finally able to mount offense, the crowd was so into it. Naito hits the Stardust Press for the win and he was face the other half of Golden Stardust, Kota Ibushi in the next round. ****
Side note:
Both members of Golden Stardust beat both members of the Bullet Club, who are the Tag Champs. Remember this for possible future reference.
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Toru Yano in the First Round of the New Japan Cup.
Absolutely gobsmacked by how this turned out. Yano immediately goes for the corner pad, because of course it's his schtick ya know. Yano hits the Low Blow and the cradle on Tanahashi within a minute, but Tanahashi kicked out at two. Wow. Yano hits every cradle variation known to man and Tanahashi manages to kick out of every single one of them. But then it happened....Tanahashi goes to run the ropes, Yano pulls Tanahashis hair. Tanahashi falls to the ground and Yano hooks the leg and pins Hiroshi Tanahashi. Let me repeat that again: THE COMEDY GEEK TORU YANO PINNED THE FACE OF THE COMPANY HIROSHI TANAHASHI CLEAN. English translation: Santino Marella pins John Cena in the first round of the King of the Ring. *
Main event: Kazuchika Okada vs. Bad Luck Fale in the First Round of the New Japan Cup:
I am such a massive Okada mark that, naturally, I was rooting for Okada, but I was doing it harder than usual just for the sole fact that I never want to see these two ever wrestle each other again. Only real highlight for me was this sequence: Okada hits a DDT and clotheslines Fale to the floor. Okada boots Fale into the crowd and tries his High Cross Body over the railing spot, but Fale catches him and slams him to the floor. That must've hurt like a *****. This match went 15 minutes, but it felt like it went 30 and not in a good way. Fale finally hits the Bad Luck Fall on Okada for the win and advances to the next round. This might've been the worst Okada match I've ever seen and that is not fault of his own and thus, the Fall of Okada continues. **
The story of this show was Toru Yanos huge upset over Tanahashi and to a lesser extent, the continued fall of Okada. Combine those stories with a series of consistently enjoyable tournament matches, this was a really solid show to this through. I dread the thought that we might see a Yujiro or Yano win in the next Round tonight.
Overall: 7.5/10
