The Wrestling Thread Won't Beg, But it will Ask Nicely

Okay, so honest question. So I'm watching old Triple H promos for some random reason and reading the comments got me thinking. And please try not to let his three year reign of terror affect your view.

Without Stephanie McMahon, would Triple Haitch have only been an upper mid-card guy?

Well, Triple H was a main event guy before his (real life) marriage to Stephanie. So yea, I think he would have been a main event guy.

Would he have been portrayed as the all-time great that he is? Probably not. But he'd have been a main event mainstay.

They could probably do an angle around Darren Young having come out.

Ryback is a bully that throws his weight around. Have him bully Young, have Young stand up to Ryback as a babyface.

It could probably work.

not gonna happen, no guy no matter how heel is wanna go down the route of playing a gay basher

you can say actors do it for roles, but a film lasts 2 hours a wrestling angle last 3-6 months and a lot wrestling fans are that deluded they would take it serious

plus you have the chance of activist groups and bigot fans from both sides jumping on the bandwagon. the lgbt kicking up for "bullying" the first openly gay wreslter or some moron claiming they are pushing the gay agenda

the best bet for wwe is to say well done son now back to regular business

I don't say this much, but I agree with you.

I agree with Nell. HHH wouldn't be on the "Attitude Pantheon" with Rock and Austin, but he'd be a consistent guy you could put on the upper mid card or as a fill-in villain for a stronger main eventer.

I could see him having roughly the status of Jake the Snake during his 1991-92 phase, or as Roddy Piper was to Hogan.

I agree. No matter how well intentioned, "social gospel" plotlines just don't work in the WWE. They've never done a successful racism angle before (look how flat the Zeb Coulter vs. Alberto Del Rio feud was).

I can see them acknowledging Young, maybe even mentioning his coming out on occasion (i.e when they do all those self-congratulatory video promos on the Be A **** program). It will only likely become a plotline if external events make it a plotline.

Darren Young with Matt Lauer:

Nice interview,Since his coming out has been so public now I wonder if they'll put that into his character,IF so then hopefully we finally get a serious character that just happens to be gay and maybe even as a face than the usual gay/flamboyant gimmicks

Basically, I expect that being gay will be part of Young's character the same way being straight is part of Bryan's character. It will be there, we'll know about it, but hopefully it won't drive a storyline, because I just can't see that being done tastefully.

I wouldn't be surprised if Young is taken off live TV for a little while, and instead featured in video packages about him going around as a Be A * ambassador and doing all the mainstream media interviews (after seeing Darren Young interviewed by Matt Lauer, I bet Vince wishes he had more gay wrestlers).

Meanwhile, Titus wrestles solo on both Raw and Smackdown over the next week or two, but then runs afoul of 3MB, who gang up on him. During the beatdown, Darren runs in for the unexpected save, for a huge pop, and the two run as a tag team again for a little while.

Him being conformable about it publicly and doing mainstream interviews and more for WWE sponsored stuff like Be a Star/Make A Wish/Reading and other still will be good for WWE in the public's eye and WWE will like that.

In turn that could be good for Daren in a possible decent push(tag team champion or little IC feud)soon

HHH had a lot of backstage pull (as a member of the cliq) long before Steph and him became a thing ( I believe it was him who suggested the plan on how to screw Bret Hart)

Former WWE head writer Alex Greenfield recently spoke to John Pollock of The Fight Network this week to discuss a number of WWE related topics. Below are highlights from their discussion:

On Vince McMahon wanting to censor Christian's face on TV with a blue dot: "Right before I started, there was a big show, I think it might have been in Toronto. Christian was just so completely over, and everybody thought he was going to get a push at, I think it was the World Heavyweight Championship at that point. We were on the plane one time shortly after I started, and Vince was just like “God damn, I just don’t like his face. His face really bothers me." I was like, “He’s ugly, Vince?” “No, it’s not that he’s ugly, it’s just, I don’t know, it’s ratty! You know what we should do? That Kennedy gimmick.” And we’re all like, “What?” Some see-on of the Kennedy fortune I guess got arrested for rape in the 1990s at some point. When the woman who was accusing him was on the stand, all of the networks put a blue dot over her face. Vince was like, “God damn, you know what we should do? We should put a blue dot over his face whenever he comes out.” It was the flight to Sheffield, England, also the flight where the Spirit Squad idea was invented. This was a whole flight of bad ideas

:whatever:..

And people are still saying "nothing is updated". :whatever: I personally can't wait to play this game tomorrow.:woot:

Does anyone think that the Hogan's might get released soon? I wonder that because to say that they put themselves into the center of this Aces n Eights storyline would be an understatement yet they haven't appeared since Destination X.

I wouldn't miss them but I'm still curious about this.

Remember when there were reports that the WWE is looking for an African American superstar to build around?

Maybe Darren Young could be that. One thing is for sure, by coming out in public, Young pretty much saved his job in the WWE.

True. Though one can make the case. If it wasn't for him being super tight with Michaels, Nash, and Hall while moving on up the ranks, I doubt he would've been in the position to get with Stephanie anyway. Either way, I'm not hating on Triple H. He's clearly a brilliant politician. He is that damn good.

Christian just couldn't catch a break. Not only does he not have the body that Vince demands, he thinks he looks like a slimy devil.

Ehhh, maybe. He still has to show me something in-ring right now. Right now, I still think Titus has more main event potential.

I still think they should try to get Young to feud with Cena. It'd be money.

Still though, Darren just took his name off the "He's going to be future endeavored very soon" list.

I don't see the WWE pushing Titus, ever. The list of Black Wrestlers in WWE right now:

- Darren Young
- Kofi Kingston
- R-Truth
- JTG (why he's still on the roster is a mystery)
- Brodus Clay
- David Otunga
- Titus O'Neil
- Big E Langston
- Ezekiel Jackson (why he's still on the roster is a mystery)
- Mark Henry
- Xavier Woods (in NXT, although I here that the WWE likes him a lot)

Outside of Henry and his wicked awesomeness, it may be hard pressed to push any of those guys as the top African American, although it could be Woods. Might as well have it be Henry.

I still believe in Titus. He's the prototypical all-around WWE ideal athlete: he's big, muscular and strong, and good-looking enough while still looking tough.

Kofi, JTG and Truth are characterized as speed wrestlers, so they have that glass ceiling on them. Clay, Henry, Zeke and Langston are monster wrestlers, too big to be the all-around guy the WWE wants as their main eventer. Otunga maybe, but I've never seen him really work a match well from beginning to end. Xavier I don't know much about, as I don't watch NXT too regularly.

Darren, maybe. Right now, his in-ring character is the trash-talking clown, who has a good wrestler like Titus to back him up. Obviously that's going to change real soon, so we'll see what Young is like in the ring in a more pure form.
