Transformers These Transformers LOOK way cooler.

I don't consider myself a fanboy because I had trouble distinguishing features as basic as an arm from a leg, and one robot from another, in a movie with an overabundance of quick cuts and shakey camera shots.

That's the fault of a) the director and b) the conceptual artists.

I am a staunch believer that G1 designs would have looked horrific. Let me illustrate my thoughts so you can end your *****ey "fan boy" accusations.

Sucky|---------------------------|Great|---------------------------|Sucky

On the left is what G1 would have looked like in this film. On the right is what we got. The middle would have been a home run.

The Transformers in the movie reminded me much more of the newer Japanese designs like from Robots in Disguise. They have the skeletal look and do not cheat space like the G1 Transformer toys did. So I wasn't all that surprised.

That being said, I think that there were too many whizzing doodads on the transformers and a better job could have been done to differentiate them. More flat panels around the arms and legs to show off different colors would have been a good start. I think Bay et al favored an "organic" look too much.

I have no problem with a middle of the road approach, I just don't understand some supposed fans dissing heavier designs, as if everything needs to look sleek and skinny. Alien robots who evolved into bulky powerhouses should not have to conform to your current fickle views about asthetics. The problem with the original cartoon wasn't the blockyness, it's that they didn't have the money to make all the parts look three dimensional and move on their own. With computer graphics it would look incredible and iconic.

If that's what you think, more power to you.
However, I can guarantee that 90% of the people saying that the Transformers weren't true to the source material won't say the same thing about Batman, or even the X-Men.
Really? You must not spend much time around the X-Men boards .

I'll bet those same people would tell you that true or not, yellow spandex would have looked laughably stupid. Just like people unhappy with the movie TF designs would tell you that G1 designs would have been laughably stupid as well.

yet you want these super intelligent alien robots to conform to YOUR view that most fan art looks better than the movie designs that look like an entry level 3d modeler could make them?

You know what, all this whining that goes on is something that cant be helped and will never stop. I've come to accept it's all a therapeutic process. However, I agree the TF did have a skeletal look and OP imo was a tad too skinny, I would have expected him to be a bit bulkier but whatever, it didn't ruin my experience. However, all these complaints is why, hopefully the guranteed sequals will be better.

Of course, each forum is going to have a side that disagrees about something. I'm saying that around the majority of the boards and my time around here, I've seen people who either liked it, accepted it, or didn't really care about the suits as much as they did the actual characterization/development. Their suits didn't ruin the film, did it? It shouldn't matter.

Was that sarcasm?

I think that the G1 designs would've looked unique had they been used in Transformers. I'm not saying that they would've looked terrible, because with the digital effects that we have now, there's no telling how good or bad they would've looked. I'm just mad that people are seriously nitpicking this situation, and arguing about it is not going to change anything, especially since people give Bats the double standard. Their look didn't seriously ruin the film for some did it? If so, that seems very superficial.

It wasn't just the designs the were bad, but their acrobatic flips and rolls were groan inducing as well. I guess alien robots don't conform to the laws of gravity either?

as if they never did that in the cartoons or comic books. :whatever:

See the original movie when Prime jumps in the air and stays airborne as he takes out like 4-5 Decepticons. Or most episodes of the show how they all can fly with power boosters in their feet.

That first jump that Prime did wouldn't really fit our laws of gravity, now would it?

Fan designs are better because they actually care about the source material and think of clever ways to pay homage to it. Michael Bay obviously had no love for Transformers as almost all of his decisions on the designs and shoving the stars of the movie into the background are antithetical to what made the original awesome.

i think prime couldve looked like this

this post just shows your ignorance about the production. please stop spouting speculative BS. you've made it clear that you're hating on the movie w/out taking the positives or the facts into consideration...

It would've worked, but according to Robot Monkey, that wouldn't "conform to the laws of gravity", because that damn Bay had a crazy idea of Transformers doing acrobatic flips and other crazy stuff like that. I heard Bay came up with it on his own, as apart of his over-the-top action. Thank God the toon and the comics didn't do that.

:wow:

Excellent.

A perfect example of an updated complex design that still honors the source material.

Although the blue legs would probably have to be changed because real semi trucks don't have bright blue struts sticking out the back. That was something that was kind of silly right from the beginning with the original OP toy.

So this wouldn't have worked?:

I think it looks great. I know its an old argument but it relates to this thread.
