So this wouldn't have worked?:

I think it looks great. I know its an old argument but it relates to this thread.

Love it. Although honestly in this film SS was possibly my favorite of all the character designs. He was one of the easiest to identify and discern, IMO.

So then would you have like to have seen the classic BUMBLEBEE

Instead of what we got in the movie?

Troll bait, but I'll bite.

I'd have preferred to see movie bumblebee with: 1) More sheet metal on the exterior to provide volume and 2) A discernible face of some sort or just have his battle mask on the whole time.

Battle mask was 100 times better than his face.

Exactly...other bots had a face. But the Bumblebee didn't...what was the reason? Because he was mute for most of the movie?

Optimus with mouth was NOT necessary and wasted money that could have gone toward a Prime vs Megatron battle or to animating a mouth on BB.

the mouth thing was a nod to beast wars [made me happy]

in the movie they were suposed ot look more alien, and yet they still payed tribute to the g1 bots [prime's chest windosheild, starscreams cockpit in his chest]

people need to stop complaing about the movie and complain about the anime crap japanese have been givng us,

they change the way the vehicels look to make the robots look cooler, how is a race car with missels on its sides suposed to blend in? at least in the movies they looked realistc

[Prime should never be a fire truck]

Yes, I think most fans would agree that the original G1 Bumblebee design would never work because it was based on a small, simple toy. If a VW Bug was just impossible because of Herbie or whatever, Bumblebee still needed more personality in his robot design than what was in the film.

You know, I would like to get an ILM rendition before I conclude that this wouldn't work on film. :ninja:

Compared to the current movie bots this design would, of course, look too simplistic to work in the movie. But modernize THIS design the way they did Optimus Prime and you'd have a winning combo.

If you really think about it ... These robots look Way Cooler than the Cartoon.

I mean the animation for the cartoon was 1984ish animation. CGI is animation for our times, and it's a lot more advanced in every way; This isn't news to anyone reading this. What I'm getting at is the 'realism' of these robots really helps sell the idea even better than the cartoon could.

I mean, they looked like Robots... real robots - I heard a lot of complaining at first when people began to see what the transformers would look like for the film, and mostly I think the complaining was mostly over these transformers looking different from the cartoon - let's face it, sometimes the toys looked different from what was Drawn on screen back then.

I don't think I've seen enough said about how good of a job the CGI team did in bringing the transformers to life - and I mean really "to life".

With a sequel (or two, or three, or four), and more screen time for this new Artistic Version of what these transformers look like, I think people will come to appreciate these even more than the cartoon version, and simply view the cartoon as the building blocks of one Cool ass movie franchise.

if you say so...

Scourge/Nemesis Prime, damn it!

Lots of people had lots to say. The reality of it all is, even if the CGI bots looked JUST Like the Cartoon G1 bots, people would've complained, saying "why didn't they make the robots look more real!"

...

This is my problem with all of the complaints. What they gave us, was better.

It was more realistic - as someone mentioned, if the Cartoonist would've been drawing in 2007 instead of 1984 the cartoons would've looked More robotic as well.

Transformers is not about the 'appearance' of the robot, in as much as it's about the Idea of a robot that can transform into anything and blend into society - It's about the Idea of conflict between 2 sides, autobots and decepticons.

It's not about whether or not Optimus Prime has flames on his legs or not... It's not about whether Bumblebee as a discernable Face (which he does, you just have to quit *****in about what you were given, and LOOK. Hes got 2 eyes and a mouth.)

These 2007 Transformers are Not the same as the G1 Transformers; Does that mean they're horrible? terrible? Too skeletal? wtf is that?

(please, dont tell me what skeletal means... )

They don't look like skeletons, they look like Robots!

I think what some of you people need to do is do some research on the robots they are creating now - see what those look like; Then compare those to what they delivered in the movie, and to what cartoonist drew over 20 years ago. What you'll find is, the robots in this movie look MORE like actual Robots, than the Cartoon Robots did.

Their goal here was 'realism' - I don't know what you folks mean when you say you couldn't tell them apart, I could - I just payed attention to the movie. The only two robots who looked even remotely similar were Brawl & Blackout.

But, one was a lil more green than the other.

The rest easily stood out from the other...

The bots looked fine. Sure I wish they looked *a little* less "busy" because it would have made some scenes easier to follow. I also couldn't tell the difference between Megatron and Starscream in a couple of parts... I had to do a double-take- but that was probably due to the ludicrous editing.

I love all the bot designs still a little iffy about SS, but hey it worked. Love to see earth-mode Megatron look more G1-ish in the future.

The mass audience doesn't give a crap, they are going to love Michael Bay garbage no matter what designs they used. Did they care about the fish lips? Do they care about robot designs? Nope, just watch them fight and it doesn't matter to the audience except those of us who care about the characters.
Well you should talk to Hasbro because they're the ones who pushed for new and different designs. You know, just like they've been doing for 20 some years now.

i think prime couldve looked like this

i dont take credit but ithink that is amazing
The designs in the cartoon were mathematically figured out in terms of their transformability. While that's nice to look at it may not be able to Transform realistically.

Now I'd like to see where you read that SB. I really want to see the reasons behind the designs because I don't believe the bots in the movie can transform realistically.

I don't see why Megatron couldn't be a tank like Devastator. Then the designers might have been able to incorporate an arm cannon better.

Because him being a tank conflicts with his role in the plot.
Megs being a tank was cool in Transformers: Armada, btw.

His role in the plot? The only thing I see it really interfering with is how he could get from Hoover Dam to LA without being a space jet.

He crash landed in the Arctic Circle.

I understand that. I just think that the writers could have found way for him to copy a vehicle. I mean, it's not like logic dictates the movie anyway.
