Actually, Doc slipped on the toilet and invented the flux capacitor on November 5. The lightning didn't strike the clock tower until the following Saturday, November 12.

[Marty and Jennifer are about to kiss, when suddenly a donation can is rattled in their faces.]

Activist: "Save the Clock Tower!!! Save the Clock Tower. Mayor Wilson is sponsoring an initiative to replace that clock."

[Marty & Jennifer look behind them, to the damaged timepiece]

Activist: "Thirty years ago, lightning struck that Clock Tower and the clock hasn't run since. We at the Hill Valley Preservation Society think it should be preserved exactly the way it is, as a part of our history and heritage!"

[Marty drops a coin in her donation can]

Marty: "There ya go, lady; there's a quarter."

Activist: "Thank you; don't forget to take a flyer." [moves on] "Save the Clock Tower!!!"
