JK will either begin releasing more books to expand the universe and movies will then be made or they will reboot the films.

I think JK has already said she is working on another book not related to Harry Potter but in the same universe.
Like I previously said, it's unfair to compare anything to Star Wars because it was released in a time where movies weren't being released week after week. There wasn't as much of a world wide release.

It's essentially like comparing Babe Ruth to Albert Pujols. When Babe Ruth played, the 3 most popular sports was baseball, prize fighting and horse racing.

Not taking anything away from how successful HP is but one has to see how well it sticks around after the last movie comes out. Star Tours (granted 1 ride), opened in 1986 and closed in 2010. That's 24 years.

I'm sure HP in Universal will be around for a while, but time will tell.

Yeah I don't see how anyone can say Batman? Except for well Batman fans. Especially since the Studio is already talking reboot even before the 3rd movie has started filming.

It's Harry Potter. Harry Potter has sold a ton of books, has a theme park, and has movies that gross over 300+ million each time to build a billion dollar franchise. Even kids at college play Quidditch.

Although Avatar is comparable to the original Star Wars in some ways.

I voted for LOTR and Harry Potter. It's too early to judge Green Lantern.
And is the Halo trilogy referring to the games? There are four... so it's quadralogy.
It's a completely different form of entertainment, so it shouldn't count.
And Batman is more like our generations Godfather than Star Wars.

I love Batman as much as the next guy but in no way would I put Begins or TDK on the same level as Godfather 1 or 2.

I don't even like the Godfather, but it's a highly regarded gangster film. And the Batman films are filled with gangsters, and there's no element of Fantasy and very little Sci Fi. I think they're in another genre.

It would have to be between Avatar, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings. Right now, Avatar (assuming that the sequels perform somewhat similar to the first) is the clear front-runner imo. Its still an early franchise and has tripled the gross of the highest grossing harry potter film. So yeah... :o

Godfather 1 and 2 are masterpieces and I don't attached too many movies to that word. BB and TDK are probably if not the finest in terms of comic book movie but I would never compare the 2.

I think I'm one of the few people that doesn't think godfather I and II are that great. I love them but they're so great that you cannot compare them to another high critically acclaimed movie?

For all it's super serous business Batman appears to be fairly dumb at times.

e.g. When Bruce refuses to kill the fellow with the sword who committed a crime as he's no executioner. He then proceeds two seconds later to blow the hideout, apparently killing everyone but Liam Nessons character lol.

Then later he says "I wont kill you, but I don't have to save you!". By that logic, if a bunch of kids are trapped in a house with a fire they started, and Batman didn't bother unlocking the door and let them burn. It's A-OK! Because Batman isn't an executioner, he's god.

Then in the Dark Knight, he saves the Joker and we get a speech about how he wont let him die as he's un-corruptible, even though it was already proven he was quite happy to let someone die.

Harvey Dent isn't a true hero! Because he used personal motive to fight crime by killing people. Yet, in Batman Begins, Bruce was about the do the exact same thing with the fellow leaving court lol.

This soon-to-be trilogy isn't very logical or consistent.

I just happen to think the acting is superior in the Godfather movies as compared to the Batman movies. I can't believe I'm even having this discussion but I have to remember where I'm posting. :o

Whatever. Batman isn't the Star Wars of our generation. That's all I was trying to say. Jesus...

Why is Halo even on this list?

These movies aren't comparable to the Original SW trilogy, from what I've seen and faintly remember, Star Wars captured everyone's imagination and have been referenced and parodied a million times over.

Even if people didn't know their names, at that time, maybe even now, everyone can recognize Luke and what he wore in A New Hope, everyone knows the guy with the vest and his tall furry companion, everyone knows the girl with the buns on her head, the golden robot and his little friend, and the tall villain in black with the iconic breathing.

Apart from Avatar and the tall blue cat-people, people wouldn't be able to tell you if a character from Harry Potter appeared in one of those movies or Lord of the Rings.

And I doubt Twilight fans are into Potter or LoTR or comics movies or vise versa.

Like Ezerengel said, these are different times, and these types of movies are getting released every other week.

Different strokes for different folks.

I can't think of anything in this generation with the cultural impact of Star Wars. Perhaps Toy Story? I don't think even that quite makes the mark.

There won't be a new Star Wars because Star Wars is well Star Wars! It has had its own Celebration for years now for it to purely celebrate it's existence. No other franchise can even come close to that. Star Wars is a Media Machine that hasn't stopped since it started.

If we are talking Technical achievement than you would have to go with The Matirx (first one only) because the effects that were pioneered in that have gone on to impact culture in so many ways you can't count. Then again so did Star Wars....

Agreed.

Although I have to say...it's probably still Star Wars. My nephews and my friends' kids are as crazy about it now as we were when we were kids, thanks to the Clone Wars cartoon. It's like Star Wars 2.0.

Many Twilight fans used to be harry potter fans, in my school they pratically went into twilight because they were after another harry potter.
And now for those who are complaining about Halo i put it because it became a fast icon, it made the x-box and many regard it as This generations Star Wars, that's one of the reasons why i made this thread:
http://m.kotaku.com/5317330/screenwriter-believes-halo-is-our-generations-star-wars

And when i said Halo Trilogy i'm referring to the first 3 games, while Reach was is more or less Halo 4, being a prequel, fans normally divide Halo games into 2 sections, the main trilogy and the spin-offs.
And i know it's impossible to create a new star wars but we'll try to find what's closer to it. I only made this thread for fun, not because any movie is going to be released, so lets try to have as much fun as we can.
PS: danoyse can i use your phrase? "The new Twilight movie is called Eclipse...because you can't look at it directly." because that's actually great and i would like to use it as a joke with my friends.

To be fair, Halo 3 had the highest one day opening of any media release ever when it debuted. It made some 75 million in 24 hours. Halo is a pretty big phenomenon for today's youth...mostly males.

Which boggles my mind why they won't make the movies.

But we are talking about 2 different forms of media. And more of a limited demographic.

But Halo's story has become for many as iconical as star wars, in least for some.

Star Wars has video games and so does Harry Potter. Yeah Halo hasn't had movies but if game sales are any indication of turnout...it would make a killing. Plus Halo has novels, toys, etc. just like all the other franchises.

If you are talking in reference to how Star Wars changed the face of movies, well Halo pretty much did that as well with video games. It pretty much single handedly was the reason that Microsoft started Xbox Live. It changed the face of gaming.

I am not saying Halo is the new Star Wars because I don't see as big of a female or older audience but I can see why it was included here. Halo is pretty much a household name.
