I don't want Whedon anywhere near an X-Men film...

Nell2ThaIzzay said:I won't debate his comic book writing, because I haven't read it (although the cure plot in X-Men: The Last Stand is my favorite concept of the 3 movies, and I know that came from his run on the comics).
All that info you told me I had no idea. It surprising, though.Nell2ThaIzzay said:But as far as his on screen work goes, I don't approve, and nor do I approve of his ideas that he presented for X-Men 3.

To be truthful, I thought both films were lackluster dissapointments on many levels. Neither really did the source material justice, leaving me with an "elseworld" feeling after both theatrical experiences. However, I did find a few elements of X3 mildly entertaining, while SR utterly bored me to tears (which is interesting because I found both of Singer's X-films thoroughly engaging).
So the only real "battle" won this year between the CBMs was that of the box office--and the victor obviously is X3. But in my opinion, neither film won the "war".
And I think we as fans lost a lot on both fronts.![]()

First of all; I don't like his screen writing. I don't like Buffy, or Angel, or any of those WB shows of his. He was involved with Alien Resurrection, and we all know about that. I don't like his contributions to X-Men that were kept (the "you're a dick" isn't totally horrible, though totally unneccesary, but the "do you know what happens to a toad when it's struck by lightning" never had a chance, I don't care how he intended it)
And 2nd of all; he wanted Phoenix to magically rise in her green and yellow uniform off the bat (where she would have gotten it, who the hell knows), and he didn't want to introduce any new characters, that means no Beast, no Angel, etc. These are X-Men films, there are TOO MANY vital characters that deserve a shot to NOT introduce new characters in the new movies. It's bad enough that vital characters like Gambit still never made the cut, but then under Whedon, we never would have had Beast or Angel either (yes, Angel's role could have and SHOULD HAVE been more than it was, but I'd still rather have a little bit of Angel than no Angel at all)

Seen said:Where did you hear the stuff about Whedon? Any links?
Joss Whedon said:Latino Review: What would you have done different if you would have been in charge of X-men 3?
Joss Whedon: You know I dont really know what their doing, Im sure its got a lot of critics, particularly me, but the one thing, and Ive said this before, they were pitching me all these new characters they were going to have, and I was amazed by that because I was like...what about all the characters you already have? After Serenity, Ive had the giant ensemble cast, which I just thought I would go backwards and tear it down. Youve got phoenix, wolverine, professor X, youve got so many great characters already; I would just concentrate on them. it doesnt mean they wont do great stuff with 3, but...
Take the case of the currently shooting X-Men 3, which Whedon was in the running for as helmer at one point.
Honestly, I dont even think I would have had [the character of] the Beast in my movie, he says of the film, which would seem to feature a cast of thousands. I think that if I was doing X-Men 3 I would be much more concerned with the nine famous and talented people they already have. I just made a movie trying to juggle a lot of characters. Adding more frightens me beyond measure.
Seen said:Hey, I get you. I didn't like X3, but loved Superman Returns, but I can still understand why you'd think SR was underwhelming.
Honestly, I think the next two years will be far better for comic-book movies. We have Spider-Man 3, The Dark Knight and Iron Man for starters. All three with talented directors at the helm, and at least two with proven material and a great cast. It should be great.![]()

ntcrawler said:JeanGrey12, here's another reason why X3 fails to end the trilogy:
Here's another promise / prophecy that was not fulfilled:
The last scene in X1 between Charles and Erik in the prison.
Erik: "The War is coming, Charles. And I intend to fight it by any means necessary"
Which clearly means that one day there will be a great conflict, and Magneto intends to be part of the action fighting on behalf of his cause.
So where's that war? What happened to it? We never got to see that war!
Well? X3 was obviously not that war. That was just a little raid on a pharmateucital company organized by Magneto. So where's the war he bragged would come some day? We're clearly building up to that conflict, tensions are rising, but nothing ever exploded to start that war in the 1st three films.
Therefore, X3 CANNOT be an end to the trilogy since it didn't even complete such a major, critical portion of the story.
