Those that disapprove of marijuana should be in favor of legalization because it removes drug profit from drug dealers and provides stricter control over those who purchase the drug.

The appeal to those that approve of marijuana is obvious.

I think part of it is simply logistics....you'd have to set up licensed sellers and distributors, also safe modes of transportation. Criminal organizations will not be so loath to give up a major source of their revenue here in the US.

In college, I liked to smoke a few times a week, during the summer, went home, didn't smoke at all and didn't even think about it. It was a fun activity to do in school, but didn't need to seek it out at home.

How about people waking up to the fact that you can live an enjoyable life without alcohol and drugs?

Everyone has their drug of choice, some people like to go out on the weekends and drink, others stay in and play video games or talk on the internet, others watch movies or play sports. Nothing wrong with social drinking or smoking.

Anyone with common sense as well as experience with alcohol and marijuana know that alcohol is 100x more dangerous. I still enjoy drinking so this isn't coming from someone who is anti-alcohol.

Just legalize pot already. It will make up for the eventual outright ban on cigarettes.

In all seriousness, if pot IS legalized, I wonder if there would be any significant effect on obesity in America? It IS an appetite stimulant after all, and people generally become very lethargic when they smoke. On the other hand, I also can't help but wonder if stress-related illness would decrease as well....

These are actually semi-important questions, now that I really think about it. Could this have a significant impact on the health of our nation in general, perhaps in ways unrelated to the direct physiological effects of the smoke itself?

No more or less significant than cigarettes or alcohol I would imagine....I think if it is decriminalized or legalized or whatever, it should be treated the same....if you get pulled over and you're high or cause an accident, you should be subject to the same penalties that a drunk drive would incur....and treat it like smoking....you can't just light up anywhere you want to

A completely different way. Intoxicants seize higher brain functioning, thereby making the user prone to careless, sometimes deadly, decisions. Video games don't get you into fights at football games like alcohol or make you fall down steps (or into someone else) because you are too stoned to walk. You are trying to make a morally relativistic argument that doesn't work.

Ladies and Gents i've seen just about all i can see when it comes to the subject. There are so many innocent people being incarcerated every day for smoking a plant put on earth by god. Kids are being arrested, transporters/growers given 10+ years for their affiliation with the harmless plant. People wake up, November is coming up... Enough is enough, this is an issue that is affecting our country, and the people in power will not let you know about it. Wake up and vote this coming November. Call your congress members, or senators, send some e-mails, let them know you care about the issue.

Prohibition law which causes Marijuana to be illegal is wrong, why would our own government arrest its own citizens and residents for smoking a plant. It's the law but come on its not humane. People should be arrested and put in jail for violent crimes like rape or fights. Its not right that people are being given criminal records for smoking a plant safer than alcohol.

While I respect your decision to not drink or do drugs, it really limits your knowledge of the subject. You really don't personally know the effect alcohol has. A violent person is a violent person drunk or sober, the fuse might be shorter when drunk, chances are though, the guy already had the plan to get into a fight that night before he started drinking.

I think legalizing pot like alcohol or even cigarettes is a great decision. It's not a very harmful drug and the government could make a mint off the taxes, plus it'll cut down the drug trade enormously
