ROH's parent company, Sinclair Broadcast Group, has officially bought Tribune Media.

Even if only those broadcast stations start airing ROH TV, this is huge news. There are a lot of new markets on that list and a lot of markets where ROH currently only airs on digital subchannels like Comet TV or ThisTV.

But if Sinclair decides to keep WGN America rather than sell it, it could be a permanent national cable TV home for ROH Television. That network has aired WWE shows in the past, so there is a decent chance.

I might be wrong, but ROH would probably have to sign a huge mainstream name to probably get on WGN America. I don't know who that can be since the biggest mainstream name out there right now is pretty much an unofficial WWE Ambassador who also happens to be the biggest movie star on the planet.

WGN America isn't going to broadcast a niche wrestling show like ROH. They will want ROH to be mainstream, I would think. The only way to that is to get a big name. There's nobody out there that can do that for ROH.

I might be wrong though and WGN America may want a niche wrestling product.

Also, the buying of Tribune will also require FCC approval, and who knows how long that will take.

If Sinclair wants WGN to broadcast ROH, they will. That's all there is to it.

Probably right. But the FCC also has to approve it and who knows how long that is going to take.

It's a formality at this point. Sinclair has friends in high places and they would not have announced it now if it weren't going to go through quickly.

I wonder what it means for Underground?

The effort make WGN America a platform for pricey original programming is over, Sinclair Broadcast CEO Chris Ripley told analysts today in a call to discuss his company’s $3.9 billion deal to buy Tribune Media.

WGNA “is already going to be shifting its strategy away from high cost originals into more cost effective originals and reruns” now that Peter Kern is interim CEO of Tribune — replacing Peter Liguori, who left the company in March — Ripley says.

“We think that is the right path for WGNA,” the Sinclair chief adds. “WGNA doesn’t have a revenue problem. It’s got a nice contractual ramp up of affiliate fees over the next couple of years, and a nice base of advertising revenue.”

But the ratings don’t “justify the type of spending that they do on the original programming side,” he says. ” We believe quite firmly that that channel could be run much more profitably just racking a fraction of what they spend on programming and return that to station profitability.”

Probably dead.

But moving to "low cost originals and reruns" sounds pretty good for ROH's prospects. They own the promotion and they already produce the TV show so the cost is essentially zero.

On to another topic.....I was watching the MTV Awards last night and there was a lot of "Baywatch" there and that's the Rock's next movie. It got me to thinking that he took a massive gamble on his Hollywood career by not cutting ties with the WWE permanently a decade ago when the Summer of Hell 2007 occurred. That risk seems to have paid off as he's now the biggest movie star in the world and unofficially a WWE Ambassador.

It was a bit surprising that he didn't show up on TV at the Raw in Los Angeles when Bayley won the Raw Women's Championship as he was there shooting the Paige movie. BTW, He's the only reason that Paige hasn't been fired from WWE yet. This is how I imagine the conversation between him and the WWE went:

The Rock: I want to make a movie with you guys.
WWE: (Does the Daniel Bryan Yes Chant!)
The Rock: And I want the movie to be about Paige and her family.
WWE:........why?
The Rock: Because I said so.
WWE: Okay.
The Rock: Is she still in the WWE?
WWE: Yes. We were going to release her, but now we can't.

Ember Moon not competing at NXT Takeover Chicago, which means that Asuka will win.

I've Got A Great Name For Our New Wrestling Thread!

Miz and Dean should co-manage the show once a month. :lmao:

I like the subtle body language of this segment. Throughout the entire promo, Miz is intentionally putting Maryse between him and Dean.

Thank you Strowman chants. Vince, take note.

I would pay good money to see Brock get tossed around by Braun.

Did I just see a woman wearing a burka in the crowd?

I just got a warm fuzzy feeling from that Golden Truth promo.

Samoa Joe with the Randy Orton power slam.

It's Over When The Wrestling Thread Says It's Over!

So Great Balls of Fire is in the same city and same arena as UFC 211 this weekend.
