1. Daniel Craig, (James Bond, Casino Royale)
2. Leonardo DiCaprio (Billy Costigan, The Departed)
3. Jack Nicholson (Frank Costello, The Departed)
4. Hugo Weaving (V, V for Vendetta)
5. Kevin Spacey (Lex Luthor, Superman Returns)

Hugo Weaving as V? Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor????? How can a guy in a mask show his acting facial expressions? Can't do it with his body language since he's too busy throwing knives at bad guys.

Kevin Spacey SUCKED as Lex Luthor in the worst way possible!

Acting is more than facial expressions, take theatre acting, mostly it's done through voice and body movement as the whole audience might not be able to see the face clearly, and the theatre is the actors medium, so please reconsider that point. I agree Kevin Spacey was nothing special whatsoever.

Again I shall rant about Sergi Lopez!!!! Someone must agree??

Here's my top 5 Actors

Forest Whitiker "Last King Of Scotland"
Leo Decaprio "The Departed"

Kate Winselt "Little Children"

That's what makes it so good, he weares a mask the entire movie and it still is a great performance.

we are not talking about theater or some Opera, we are talking about film, and Hugo's Weaving's voice while intresting as V,Isn't an oscar worthy performance...Ryan Gosling in Half Nelson is.

Theatre is about ACTING!!!! As is this thread, hence the connection! I don't think Weaving deserves an oscar by any means, but it was still a great performance. I actually liked Josh Hartnet in the Blach Dahlia, (the first third of that film is so amazing, shame about the second half of the film though:()

Leonardo Dicaprio (The Departed)
Daniel Craig (Casino Royale) Craig deserves an Oscar nomination
Christian Bale (The Prestige)
Johnny Depp (Pirates...)
Tom Hanks (The DaVinci Code)

Not really sure why all the love for Bale? He is a great actor, but the presitge was one of his weaker performances.

And Depp??? Dep??? YES he is a superb actor, but that doesn't mean everything he does is great, POTC2 was a tragic film, his character had no develoment, and his performance was as if he couldn't be bothered, he brought nothing out, fair enough he had a terrible script to work with, but his acting was probably the worst I've ever seen him do, truly awful!

Also the love for Craig escapes me, a lot of the time he wasn't really acting, his flat deliveries were just voicing the lines to some extent, whilst i loved certain parts of it, it was very inconsistant and he really was playing a different bond to the one in the script, so the lines came off badly.

Now an intelligent few people here have picked up on Ray Winstone, now there was a great performance.

I cant belive how all the people is forgeting the best peformance of the year: Helen mirren as the queen.

Also: hugo weaving for v of vendetta, leonardo dicaprio for the departed, john hurt for the proposition.

Also, daniel graig for casino royale and james cronwell for the queen.

And Hugo Weaving job in v of vendetta was amazing. To express feellings and emotions under a makeup or a mask a whole movie is something that only a great great actor could do. Its named body expression. Only remember john hurt in the elephant man.

It's called voice over acting...Mickey Rourke did a better job as Marv than Hugo Weaving did as V.

Its a mix of both, body expression and voice expression. Rourke did a great job as marv, totally agree, but weaving's job as V isnt less impressing.

I haven't seen Casino Royale nor The Departed yet. Not to mention I haven't seen alot of movies this year. So, from what I've seen...:

1. Hugo Weaving, V for Vendetta
2. Sylvester Stallone, Rocky Balboa
3. Denzel Washington, Inside Man
4. Michael Pena, World Trade Center
5. Clive Owen, Inside Man
