Wow, this thread is busy........nice to see pan's getting a few nominations....

I would love to see Pan's Labyrinth win a something this year. The film, to me, was a masterpiece. It would be such a shame for it to not win something.

Agreed, Children Of Men really deserves at least a nomination. There's more chance of it getting a BAFTA then an Oscar I reckon.

Casino Royale got a lot of nominations

Bond films never do well in awards generally, I think it's the new spin and adventurousness getting it attention, although Sergi Lopez deserves a nomination, actually just a straight out award

The Departed won Best Picture and Best Director for Socorese.

I don't get all the enthusiasm for "Little miss Sunshine", a nice movie but inferior to "The Prestige" for example.

Good list, althought i think that children of men and the prestige should get more nominations.

The queen will be the queen of the party.

to be honest I don't think the prestige deserves any real nomination, editing maybe, perhaps a nod for writing, but that's it.

Perhaps Cinematography since it was beautifully shot but I agree with you, it's a good film but it didn't blow me away.

I think Chris Nolan isn't the talent of the family, his brother is a wonderful writer.

Chris Nolan's strong point has always been a subdued sense of style, it isn't flashy Pulp Fiction type style, but it's the type of style that makes up for lack of substance, that and all his films pack a powerful message.

I've never been too impressed with him personally, I find his descisions are very much for the sake of it, it feels very forced, especially in the prestige which is chopped around too much and feels like it's doing it for the sake of it, also memento is rather gimmicky for me, once the narrative structure is taken in, there isn't a great deal else I find. I think prestige is one of his most engaging films though, and insomnia. I do love the writing on prestige, although acting of jackman is awful, and Bale gives a sub par performance too :( Still entertaining enough though

To each his own... Since I found the performances to be great and I did not see the ending coming at all. It does look like I'll have to see United 93...

Except Pan's Labyrinth, Del Toro didn't make any good movie.

Blade 2? Terrible acting, poor script, crappy cinematography, cheep vissual effects.

The same I cna say about Hellboy and Mimic :down

Devil's backbone, cronos, c'mon they are amazing, and hellboy is easily one of the best(if not the) comic book films.

The ending wasn't predicatble, altho it didn't come as that much of a surprise by the time it happened, after all, Michael Caine did tell us the twist early on, lol. You thought the acting was great? I can't see it, just felt a tad flat to me to be honest, Jackman really felt empty to me, can't wait to see fountain though! And I'm avoiding United 93, looks pointless and poor personally to me, it seems like a filmt that relies on the subject matter and if you're not intertested by that, then you'll hate it.

Great is a bit strong, but I didn't think they were terrible, I thought the performances were good. But again each to his own an argument would be moot. As for United 93, those were the reasons I didn't see it...

out of curiosity, what was your opinion of 21 grams? Personalyl I hated it, was good direction around a poor story, and felt very much like a shoddy style and basis remake of his debut film, but for a different and simpler audience.
