Thor Score

Yeah bought the whole thing. I'll just keep the CD unopened when it arrives.

Listening now. WAY more percussive than expected. The loop on the site is actually from 'Ride To Observatory', not 'Sons Of Odin'.

Oh my Odin. 'Letting Go' is just completely :hrt::hrt::hrt:.

The second half of the score is much superior to the first. It's the softer passages that stand out, namely 'Science and Magic', 'Forgive Me' and 'Can You See Jane?'

If Branagh does the sequel, Doyle will score it.

I think Doyle is a tremendously talented composer and I think what I've heard of Thor is great, found quite a few themes already. Quite a few reviews have named the score as a highlight of the film.

I do not doubt his talent. That being said, there is always room for improvement and he definitely needs to work more on his leitmotifs. The biggest complaint made by people in the know is that they are not particularly well-defined or memorable enough:

Haha. It's the 'Patrick' Power Anthem.

Doyle certainly wasn't kidding in his interview. Although, it's definitely better than many similar stylistic themes to come directly from Remote Control.

I would rather have that theme, than no themes at all. Just like I would rather have a modern synth/orchestral RCP approach with a Zimmer crafted identifiable theme, than have a traditional Doyle approach with plenty of old school bombast, yet entirely devoid of any themes, through fear of the music calling too much attention to itself by being overwrote and too big for the film it's supposed to be serving, ultimately facing inevitable rejection in the process. Themes/motifs etc in an orchestral based score such as this have always come first for me before anything else.

I absolutely agree with what that FSM poster said. In superhero movies, perhaps moreso than any other genre leitmotifs are everything! My rating for the 'Thor' score as it stands is: 8.5/10.

Imagine for a minute a scene in the Thor sequel, when he is standing before the Gates of Faerie (for example) with music like this playing in the background:

Didn't know I was a subscriber... Weird.

It was really cool, lots of themes he mentioned that I didn't pick up on. Laufey/Loki have the same theme for example.

Love this score. Best since Elfman's Spider-Man IMO.

You should post the interview yourself.

It's an audio interview.

Can't stop playing the score. Knew Doyle wouldn't let me down.

Only one more week for the wait

Unless the score pulls an IM2, and gets released early lol

Hadn't tried that yet. Have you looked already Dee?

I'm going to upload the score. Hopefully Youtube won't delete it.
