The current Asgard from after the Gods resurrection a few years ago is a lot more middle ages in style (or was until the Sentry tore it down). However Kirby's original Asgard designs were a mix of Sci Fi and myth in look long before Stargate came along (which did adopt a similar approach). The movie Asgard is a fine adaptation of Kirby's vision, imo.

You're right. I still don't like the look of it though. Even if Asgard's supposed to be futuristic and such, the movie set has an off feeling about it. Just something there is...off. But thats just me.

In the set interviews that went up the other day he said 60 Asgard/40 Earth split

Good news. That also means more Loki, who was the best thing of the trailer imo.

Its the sci-fi channel look of the sets and costumes. Plus the movie seems extremely formulaic. Plus its set mostly on earth with a powerless Thor.

That, and something about Thor wearing a plaid collared shirt rubs me the wrong way.

I think most of the problems could be due to conservative budgeting, considering they dont know if this is a franchise that can make money yet. If the movie does well perhaps they can splurge more on the next one and make it look not so...cheap.

I'm not sure what to say. You sound extremely hard to please. Sci-Fi Channel?

If the plaid shirt rubs you wrong, wait until you notice that Thor is wearing socks. He never wore them in the comics. It's a travesty!

Seriously, lighten up. The movie is going to be awesome. It'll have enough Thor with powers to satisfy the people who just want to see hammer's hitting people in the face. It's okay for you to be impressed by the teaser trailer. Let is happen.

It's a story about an arrogant god banished from his kingdom so that he may learn humility on earth. Which, you know, is Thor's origin story.

Exactly.

What are people expecting here? There has to be a story, and no, it can't and shouldn't be just on Asgard since the comics are mostly based on Earth anyway! There has to be a good set-up for Thor to join the Avengers...

^Personally its not the story thats putting me off, I just think the main character is going to be really hard to relate, maybe for 2 3rds of the movie, or so its looking, I just hope this doesnt have a detrimental effect on my enjoyment of the movie.

I havent read much Thor in the comics, but when I have I have found the same problem, I just cant relate to him, so I hope we get plenty of quieter character moments which get us behind him in the movie.

Dude if he wears socks in the movie, i'm losing it.

GOD HELP MARVEL STUDIOS IF THOR WEARS SOCKS IN THIS MOVIE

Seriously, its ok for people to not love elements of a movie trailer. You like everything you saw - good for you. You don't see me calling you an easy-to-please simpleton. I just said there's stuff I don't like. I'm very open to being pleasantly surprised by this movie. I WANT it to be good. I'm just not thrilled with what we've seen so far. Sorry if that doesn't fly with you.

What makes you think he'll be hard to relate to? If you've ever had family drama, Thor is the most relatable guy in the world. He's largely defined by the interpersonal dynamics between himself, his father, and his brother. Hell, the whole banishment and being forced to learn humility is just a metaphor for a parent's disappointment with a child who's not living up to his own potential; the scope has just been made way bigger.

In YOUR opinion, which your allowed. The sets look great and not cheap at all.
Plus the movie seems extremely formulaic.
Hate to break it to you but nearly ALL movies have a formula for whichever genre your in. Hell Scream mocked the horror formula. This is a poor, poor criticism that doesn't hold water.
Plus its set mostly on earth with a powerless Thor.
As noted, its um Thor's origin. Go read up with Wiki so you don't sound silly later. :cwink:

Oh, then I stand (pleasantly) corrected.

I have a lot of respect for you. Although I don't agree with all of your comments, you seem to truly want a good movie and are open-minded to the comments of others. So thanks!

Thought the trailer was great, I've never been a big Thor fan, so I don't know too much history, but I'm excited for the movie. The only thing I would've changed in the trailer was to have Thor call Earth Midgard, that's what he calls Earth in the comic right? Although that would confuse the general audience so I can understand why Earth was used.

Okay. I understand. Just try hard to remember that this is a teaser trailer and is not indicative of what the overall tone, characters, feelings, etc. will be like. (I'm addressing a few people at once here.) Actually, I'm also responding to Green Lantern haters as well.

Let me give you my perspective on this whole situation. I imagine it that Marvel is like a parent who just bought their kid what they think is the coolest gift ever. As they watch with incredible anticipation, the kid gets the gift and starts complaining about it - questioning the use of wrapping paper, the weight of the box, the smell of the glue. By the time the kid gets to the gift it could be a magic genie granting unlimited wishes, but he's so busy being critical, he misses the greatness of it entirely.

Thor is a gift. I've personally been waiting for this for many years, and what I've seen is great. Of course I would like more - a larger, tougher Thor... flying, etc. But I'm grateful for the gift and confident that Kenneth Branagh will give us something that works for the majority of the masses.

Are you entitled to your opinion? Absolutely. If you don't like something, fine. I'm just interested in giving a more positive opinion that will hopefully be contagious around here. Sometimes, being nit-picky is just plain childish and moreso, stupid. (Not an attack on you.)

That's a pretty good point that you made.

Well said,Corp.

I hope that the following trailers show that aspect more too. Just to show it's not just a guy with a war hammer smashing things.
You get some of it from Thor and Odin but you don't get anything of why Loki goes from a loving brother to the Loki most of us knows. THAT in itself should be made clear to the average movie goer.

Yeah I didnt even think about that aspect too much. If that part of the overall dynamic is explored well it can really make for a great story. Good post.

The trailer was fantastic, this film looks like it definitely is going to have a epic scale! I need start reading some Thor before the film is released, I know a little bit and thats it.

Branagh's mentioned seeing Thor's story as a very epic Shakespearean family tragedy.

Start with some trades by Walt Simonson. Then you could read some trades from Thor vol2,with some really good stuff by Dan Jurgens and an epic end by Michael Avon Oeming.
Finally,Thor vol3 by JMS.:word:

Have already seen the GL trailer, need to see the Cap one still but Thor looks like its going to be THE movie of 2011 for me.
