THQ going under?

So I guess it's the same for Warhammer 40,000 then? I really hope that Sega works out a deal with Games Workshop (assuming the rumors are true), because I really love Relic's 40K games so far, and because a Warhammer 40K / Total War crossover is too cool of an idea not to happen.

THQ confirmed the studios that have been sold in a letter to employees announcing the company's closure.

Yesterday morning, we received a competing bid for the operating business,
along with Clearlake's offer, and numerous offers for separate assets.
During an auction process that lasted over 22 hours, the final conclusion was
that the separate-asset bids would net more than a single buyer for the majority
of the company.
Shortly, we will, present the results to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, which must
concur with our assessment.
The proposed sales of multiple assets is as follows :
Sega agreed to purchase Relic
Koch Media agreed to purchase Volition and Metro
Crytek agreed to purchase Homefront
Take 2 agreed purchase Evolve and
Ubisoft agreed to purchase Montreal and South Park

I'm not sure about franchises other than WWE. I'd assume Koch would get Saints Row along with Volition.

Clearlake wanted to buy THQ for 60 million, the total value of the studios sold today was 70.8 million.

Official results of the THQ Auction

  • Ubisoft has purchased the rights to THQ's Montreal Studio, and South Park: The Stick of Truth. There is no immediate word on how this purchase will be affected by South Park Studios' lawsuit to prevent their property from being included in this sale. Also of note is the fact that Patrice Desilets, the former Assassin's Creed creative director who left Ubisoft to pursue new opportunities at THQ, is now back with his former publisher for at least the moment.
  • Koch Media, the parent company of Dead Island publisher Deep Silver, has purchased Volition Inc. and the Saints Row brand, as well as the Metro franchise.
  • Sega will be taking control of Company of Heroes developer Relic Entertainment.
  • Crytek has purchased the rights to the Homefront franchise for some reason.
  • Take-Two Interactive takes over Turtle Rock Studios' Evolve.
  • Vigil and Darksiders are apparently dead. :(

Winning bids are as follows:

  • 26M for Relic (Sega)
  • 2.5M for Montreal (Ubisoft)
  • 11M for Evolve (Take-Two)
  • 22.3M for Volition (Koch Media)
  • 500k Homefront (Crytek)
  • 5.8M for Metro (Koch Media)
  • South Park for 3.2M (Ubisoft)

Edit: beaten.

Crytek took over Homefront because they're developing the sequel. So now they own the work they're doing.

If no one else can bring the third game to life, I hope Joe Mad does some kind of comic or something because that entire series was just one big cliffhanger. Does mankind get restored? Does War clear his name? What about the other two horsemen? Da ****?

Who gets the Saints Row IP? Does that automatically go with Volition? I never even heard of Koch, at least i dont think

You heard of the Koch Brothers?

Their video game publishing arm is called Deep Silver. You might have heard of them.

There was a shimmer on a slither of hope, that at one point, there'd be a Darksiders III: 4 Player Co-Op; It rode off into the sunset today.

(Google Translate)Seriously "DARKSIDERS" in the auction sale of THQ Studio & IP remained unsold. Cheap ... I want to buy ...

I don't think Inaba is completely serious, but it's interesting.

Darksiders and Platinum Games? Now that has potential.

Volition is a real surprise. I thought for sure some big company like Warner Bros or EA would've been right in there for that Saints Row property.

Yeah, I thought WB and EA were going to come out nabbing most of THQ and they ended up with pretty much nothing.

Koch got Volition for what, $23 million? That's a lot. They apparently have a lot of faith in the franchise, because they said they're already planning to announce the future of Saints Row in the coming months.

I never played that. I went through their list on Wikipedia and Ive never played any of their titles. Never heard of most of them

Hmm... apparently another Platinum dude is making job offers to the Vigil people...
yeah it's true
apparently someone from Platinum said:

"@haydndalton hey man. If anyone is interested in working with/at Platinum let me know how to get ahold of you via DM. "

so he's serious after all.

Well, yes and no. He's serious about employing people, but Platinum isn't really in a position to buy an IP and employ an entire other studio. Best case scenario is that they get the IP and maybe a dozen former Vigil devs with it. Worst case scenario is that that a few Vigil guys are employed by Platinum. Kind of a win-win scenario I guess.

Ah what they really need is a publisher. but Platinum has both kojima production and Nintendo as clients maybe their hoping they can talk to those two at the very least. but i'm sure what you said is true.
