Ridley Scott gets a lot of flack for his recent films from "teh internets" but I love them. American Gangster, Body of Lies, Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator, Hannibal, Black Hawk Down, and even Robin Hood I enjoyed. As far as I'm concerned he's up there with the best.

Seriously. I love all those films. :)

I've never been a big fan of his work.

Personally, I thought Tony showed more skill as a director in Man on Fire.

It's a shame he then immediately proceeded to **** it up by making Domino.

Ive never really been able to get into Blade Runner, but I love Gladiator and Alien.

One of my favorite quotes is from Blade Runner.

"I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I’ve watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain."

I love Blade Runner....fantastic movie.

I feel as though all of scripts to Ridley's movies are very subtle and cerebral. That said, in all of his movies I feel like he doesn't cultivate and translate nearly enough of the depth that's inherent in his scripts onto the screen.

The first time I watched Blade Runner, Gladiator, Alien, Kingdom of Heaven, I found myself quite bored by the end of all four. It was only through repeat watchings that I really came to appreciate the finer aspects of Blade Runner, etc.

Maybe I'm just dense, but considering I've never really had a problem grasping subtly with other directors (generally I pick up on aspects of movies that most people don't catch), I feel as though it's something inherent in Scott's style of filmmaking that I find alienating.

Pun intended. :o

All of that said, Prometheus does look pretty awesome. :o

It helps that Damon Lindelof is a pretty awesome writer.

His movies do have a cerebral coldness to them, but in my opinion so do Christopher Nolan's.

My love for Blade Runner comes from my love of Philip K. Dick.

I'd disagree with that. Nolan generally emphasizes the subtle aspects and morals inherent in his scripts to the 10th degree. But you are right; Nolan does have a certain coldness and distance with his characterization.

As much as I love Blade Runner it doesn't hold a candle to "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?"

The omission of the Mercer/Empathy Boxes subplot, Buster Friendly, mood organ and the in depth look at the artificial animals and their value to gauge ones place in the social ladder all made it for a less than satisfying adaption for me personally.

Also nothing in BR comes close in terms of intensity to that great part in the book where Decker is arrested and taken to an off branch police station where one of the most thrilling mind#$%* takes place.

I enjoy BR very much as a standalone sci fi film but it missed far too much for my taste for it to be considered a great adaptation of PKD work.

Some of those are my favorite movies, I think the main group of people giving him flack are the sci-Fi fans. Which I hope they shut up now since he's returning to the genre.

Kingdom of Heaven and Body of Lies are two underrated gems.

Last week's heat wave came to an end
Weather today is dusty, and a strong cold wind

a little too much, some would say, his "themes" can seem a little heavy handed at times. but that falls on his dialogue and writing. As a visual director I have nothing to complain about with him.

The bum is banned again? I swear, that mother****er goes on probation more than RDJ used to.

oh that bum, he should have a theme song or something. "it's buuuuum, never know what he's gonna say next!"
