I asked a moderator to move this thread which I accidentally posted in the wrong forum. Nothing happened so I decided to delete and re-post.

How many tweaks would the old script from the late 90s need to work now, in the 2020s?

Can the same suits they created still be used?

Nicholas Cage is obviously too old to lead the film. And he was the wrong actor for for Supes in the first place.
They have to find another guy. Who would you want to replace him?

If the film really happens, who should direct?

Animated film with Nicholas Cage (direct to HBO Max), or comic adaptation (go real 90s with the art--maybe Howard Porter?).

The problem with the possibility of adapting Superman Lives is there are several scripts, there are a few drafts from Kevin Smith’s time prior to Burton jumping on. Then there’s about 3 or drafts between Wesley Strick & Dan Gilroy from when Burton was on board. There’s even a draft by a guy named William Wished that was post Burton leaving. So which script would you even adapt?

Oh, that was tricky!!!

Maybe they can pick the best parts from each of them?

That way you can get Nic Cage and other cast members back.
But we can't see the actual suit being used.

I think it looks amazing with its colors. The Cavil one was too muted

EDIT. I forgot to include a pic here, even though I hade prepared to paste it. So here it is
Ironically enough, someone else later posted exactly the same pic I've chosen.
I wanted to point out how stronger the colors are compared to Cavill's suit.

I don't think you need to use the script for Superman Lives to get Superman in a colorful suit.

I’d think Kevin Smith’s script (and maybe give him a shot to polish it with Marc Bernardin).

No, but another script with the same live action suit, then

Which Superman Lives suit are you talking about cause none of the suits were ever finished. The closest we saw to a finished suit was this...

and even that wasn’t finished

I’d be down for that cause I liked his scripts better than the ones when Burton came on board.

Smith’s even admitted that he wrote those scripts as fan fiction—bringing back Superman Lives seems like a love letter to fans anyway, might as well go all the well. Plus you have cameos from characters like Deadshot and Batman(!) to flesh out the story.

It looks almost finished. Cage even put it on, to do poses.

Just finish the suit and start production.
Go through the different drafts and mix them together to get a new Superman story.

EDIT: Dang, I should have included just that pic in an earlier reply, to point out how amazing it is, but forgot to do that.
Now it's been corrected. Scroll up to see it :)

Yeah but it wasn’t the final suit, it was tests for the fabrics and colours.

I think it’s pretty tacky looking myself. It wouldn’t work today either.

Plus you’ll never get this story in live action, the best you could hope for is animation. Even that’s unlikely as there’d be finance issues with who to credit and who gets what etc.

1. "Tacky looking"
You are free to have that opinion

2. "Wouldn't work today"
Agree to disagree.
It would work better today than 20 years ago

The materials and styles are all outdated, they don’t make super suits like that anymore

Can't everything be done this day, thanks to cgi?

It’s not a case of been able it’s a case of legalities and financials. The film as it existed already had credited writers, director, producers etc. It would likely be a legal mess.

Still not a completely justified reason against it.
As it's different from other recent trends in superhero suit making, it could even be an advantage to the film. What if it grosses a lot at BO and starts a new trend?

Ok, but then they have to write a new script then.
And maybe inspiration can be drawn from all existing drafts without someone claiming he's got the rights to certain ideas?
