Animation Tim Miller’s Video Game Anthology ‘Secret Level’ | Prime Video

Awesome, really enjoying the show so far. Haven’t seen every episode but Warhammer and PAC-Man are the standouts.

The former has me really excited for the Amazon show with Henry Cavill, episode served as my introduction to that world.

The selection for season 1 has a lot of unusual and unexpected choices. I wonder if they'll get bigger names for season 2. Resident Evil or Silent Hill would be great, with the former fitting the format more easily. Assassin's Creed, why not? They could do something new with Ezio for nostalgia, for example. Big fighting games like Mortal Kombat or Tekken. Tetris episode could be fun just to see what they could come up with. The Sims seems like a no-brainer for a really different kind of episode.

only seen a few eps so far my fave is the one so far is the one with Arnold :funny:

I’ve watched the D&D and Armored Core episodes so far. Good stuff, but I’m kinda wondering what is the goal here? Like, I would gladly watch a whole series of either of those but it’s going to be pretty disappointing if I wait year or two for another 15-minute episode of each. I’m hoping future content will be longer because it all kinda feels like a tease.

Still, the D&D episode proved to me that you could do a serious Forgotten Realms TV series and make it work. I enjoyed the D&D movie from last year and I get why they made it so lighthearted. But as a fan of the darker and more serious D&D books and video games, I would love to see a series that explores all of that. I would happily watch these characters explore Faerun and maybe cross paths with Drizzt and Entreri at some point.

I agree on D&D. The movie was fun, but they tried to make a Guardians of the Galaxy type feature and appeal to as broad an audience as possible, but it didn't really work. At the same time, I'm not sure a big budget Forgotten Realms type movie would've worked either. I do think could maybe do an animated TV route.

Tim Miller needs to think bigger.

At the same time, it's hard for me to get excited about Secret Level since it's mostly a group of disparate shorts. We see shorts like this for throwaway game trailers quite often.

Yeah, I get that they were trying to make D&D more accessible to a mainstream audience but if that was the right approach, then it would have done better. But like you said, I also don’t think a serious Forgotten Realms movie would be a hit either.

But I think (maybe) a TV series could work. I don’t think you would want to do a straight adaptation of the Salvatore Drizzt books necessarily (though I personally would love that) but I think you could adapt aspects of them while merging them with other popular things like Baldur’s Gate 3. It would take a lot of work but I think if it’s well written and well cast (and has Max or Prime or another streaming service behind it that isn’t afraid to shell out some cash) it could really be something special. I personally would prefer a live action show but a CGI series could work too if it looks as good as this does.

But yeah, as it stands right now, the episodes of Secret Level just feel like glorified game trailers or cinematics. They’re really cool looking and well done but they don’t even tell a complete story because they’re so short. I’m fine with a Black Mirror anthology approach to this sort of thing but 15-20 minutes just isn’t enough. The D&D episode was cool but it doesn’t even have an ending, and most of the characters aren’t even developed aside from the Paladin and Cleric, so it needs to continue to really feel like something.

Had they done more like an anthology series I would probably have gotten a bit more invested in this.

Why bother when you’ve already produced universally beloved adaptations like the Halo TV series and the Doom movie? :o
