Tim: Upgrade Susan's Force-fields!

Really, LS? I never figured you for the kinda person to make a thread like this. Seems beneath you, to be honest.

Make a thread "like what"? I made an observation about the special effects and how I think they should be more glass-like and directed from her forehead (as shown in the source material). Considering this is a comic book forum, how is such a request "beneath" me?

Not every thread from me has to be a Cheerleader-type...I offer constructive criticism like everyone else. ;)

Really? seems rather fitting

I'm going to take that as a compliment. For your sake. :whatever:

 There's nothing wrong with this topic. It's perfectly relevant. In fact, I'm surprised it hasn't been discussed at length before. How many pages did we go on and on about the Thing's brow?

Wouldn't want to abuse your powers or anything. humbug

no offense man. But it's a special effect, that's why we're getting on you, so it's not coming out exactly how it is in the comics, and doesn't look how it's DRAWN, we're not the special effects guy, they know how to make silly stuff look real.

I didn't have a problem with Sue's forcefield as it was shown in the movie. Some variations of her power as is regularly shown in the comics would be great though. This is after all a sequel and people want to see something new.

The force shards and levitation would be my personal pics of the examples listed. Bubbles could come off as corny and the slide is in my eyes Iceman's trademark not Sue's.

Personally, i want a big improvement on the effects for Mr.Fantastic which were at times sub-par in FF1.

And that's fine. I'm simply saying that it'd be nice to evolve the effects.

I mean, can you honestly imagine her forming solid shapes the way how the force-fields are depicted now? Can she really enclose an enemy in a "box" or attack Doom with "grappling hooks" if the energy is looking like wobbling, blue jello?

This is not a nit pick. I think the forcefields were okay--even fine--for FF1--for the Invisible Girl as a novice. Why? Because her projection seemed very elementary and primitive--as it should be, since she was just starting out. My point is that FF2 takes place 2 years after the fact; therefore, she should be evolving as a woman and in her skills. I'd like to see more solid conviction in her execution of powers and some creativity, that's all.

I definitely think all should be evolved....honestly I was alittle unimpressed with Johnny's SFX in the teaser trailer with the SS.....it looked to me like they simply used stuff from the first film and edited it in.....

I think they finally got Mr. F's SFX down by the end of the movie....took a while though....

To me Sue's powers were exactly where they should have been....kind of haphazzard in the fact that she really could not control them as her emotions were also all over the place.....2 years later....I definitely would like to see all of them using their powers in a much more stable way....

1). I'd like to see Mr. Fantastic making shapes....
2). I'd like to see Johnny throwing more fire....
3). I'd like to see Sue surfing....and throwing specific forcefield objects...
4). I'd like to see Ben, crush, pulverize, and totally destroy things....

Agreed. I believe Reed's abilities need to be evolved the most, actually.

And although I'd LOVE to see this too, I wouldn't hold my breath on seeing Susan surfing--she's not silvery enough. :)

I actually think we "were" going to see that....hence Jessica spending some time on the slopes "snowboarding" ..... BUT I also think that that might have been the area that Tim had to cut for $$$$$ purposes per his 2nd blog....her and Valeria....especially Valeria have become very good at using the forcefield for flying purposes......in fact in one of the Marvel Knights issues she not only carried herself but also Ben and Reed across the desert after being taken back in time....I would also like to see her use the forcefield in specific areas...like....bubbles in the airway....etc...

I really had no problem with the way the forcefield was dipicted. The only place I had a problem was when she hurled it at Reed. On the bridge it was ok. When she threw it at Doom it was ok. when she used it to stop Dooms electrical charge, and when she surrounded Johnny's super nova with it it was fine. The shield is not rigid, in every instance it is used. It can move and bend, like it did around the super nova. Do you want it to look like a huge contact lens like in the 1994 FF movie ? :ninja:

Yes. :csad:

No seriously, I just want them to get creative with those mental energies. And I'd really like to see them projected like a scope from her mind. That will impress on audiences that it's psionically driven.

And I agree with you--I thought the fields looked good in all the places you mentioned it, except Reed's lab. It was waaaay too formless and looked like a ghost. LOL

^ROTFLMAO!!

Sorry, it's funny picturing a huge contact lens. :p

Totally agree with all of it.

I gotta say, I didn't really have a problem with how Sue's powers looked or how she projected them. 2 years have passed, so I hope they are more powerful, but other than that... I have no problem. Sorry LS.

The only effects I think need more tweaking are Mr. Fantastic's. Of course, his are probably the most difficult to do.

My biggest hope is in the area of Ben.....

I got kind of tired of seeing him break glasses, and eat forks....I know if asked....Michael would say, it was an origin movie.....I'm tired of hearing that excuse as well....Ben should have been pulverizing from the beginning....so my hope is that, as someone said earlier this week, I don't want to see him hit Doom and Doom puts a dent in a wall....I want to see Ben hit Doom and Doom go through the wall....*smiles*.....best part of the first movie in the area of Ben was him slamming through the wall to save Sue and Reed.....THAT WAS THE THING.....I want to see more of that...

So....in the movie universe Sue has to sorta lunge forward to project her forcefields, right?

Well, can you imagine the FF being in a battle with Doombots--and while everyone's doing their thing she has to position her body completely symmetrical with her target and then lunge forward to get the forcefield's momentum up EVERYTIME? Wouldn't that get tiresome, not to mention open up room for errors in striking her enemies? Think about it: In the whole "Let's not fight/No, lets" sequence, the only reason she was able to really hit Doom is because he was talking to her. But in hurried combat, no realistic enemy is going to pause long enough to let her stand still and then lunge forward for an attack. The only way she'd have a tactical advantage is to launch the fields while being invisible herself (like in Doom's office in FF1). Do you guys see my point?

Showing the field projecting from her mind shows that she's mentally guiding these attacks, and not just leaving them to chance. It would just come across more accurate. And since Jessica is great with combat moves on film, showing the psionic delivery opens up possibilities for other moves from her since her body is not locked down for one offensive position.

so you wanted him to turn into the thing, and immedietly he start crushing everything in sight?
go see the hulk if you wanna see that
ben didnt want to be the thing, hes a kind guy at heart, why would he just start crushing everything, they did him just fine

Doesn't matter whether he wanted to be Thing or not.....when you kick a stool....and you have his strength....whether you want it or not is not the problem....the stool should have been totally destroyed....when Doom was hit with the power that Thing has putting alittle dent in a wall and falling down would not happen.....Ben just came through a wall.....more than a dent for Doom and then immediately getting up???? come on......and when he fell on the car.....not even a dent in the car?????? those things have nothing to do with the emotional turmoil he had within.....that was shown quite well in the movie....but the sheer strength of Thing, IMO, was not....

I'm not talking about Ben's "desire" to destroy (ie, the hulk) I'm talking about simply the power behind his fist....the weight of his body.....those things were shown.....but not consistently....

For example....when he jumps onto the bridge the concrete is cracked and dented....yet when he falls on a car only the glass shatters.....thats a lack of consistency....bad movie making IMO.

I also want to see Sue's levitation skills used in the movie. I remember that the first time it was introduced in the comics, Johnny commented that it was cool and just like the Silver Surfer. So maybe Sue using it in the film will lead to another funny one-liner by Johnny.

...maybe that is why they linked Sue with the Surfer, maybe he teaches her how use her powers to surf...
