Since the news of Nick/Paramount buying the TMNT rights from Peter Laird/ Mirage studios what is the general feeling among TMNT nation? Speaking for me personally I grew up with the turtles and still love the various versions of them (yes Next Mutation is included) I guess my only real concerns with Nick/Paramount having them is that the quality of CGI show will rival that of Speed Racer: the Next Generation or Iron Man: armored adventures or they're going the cheap and easy route by aiming for younger TMNT fans while leaving some of the fans that been around since 1984 or in my case 1989 out.

But what gives me hope that the turtles would remain where they were in the 2k3 series or be able to grow is that most kids merchandise are based off things like the Spider-Man movies and the Dark Knight. And the fact they have cartoons like Wolverine and the X-Men and Avatar could help ease in another TMNT series that's has elements that most fans will enjoy..

Enough with me, what do you think TMNT fans?

Personaly, I'm not a terribly big fan of CG cartoon shows so I'm hesitant about what Nick is going to do with the TV series. It's like with Marvel buying Disney though-- until they actually do something, it's kind of silly to jump to conclusions about what it means for the future. Nickelodeon / Viacom / Paramount has tons of money to throw at the franchise though, and given how high profile the franchise is I think that it should be good news. As long as they do acknowledge that there are older fans of TMNT as well as kids (I mean c'mon, the franchise has been here for a quarter of a century), rather than pandering to the lowest common denominator in all mediums, I think there are good things in store for the turtles. The most telling thing will be what approach they take with the new live action movie, I think.

I hate the fact that the new toon is going to be CGI. I would rather see a 2d animated show than cgi.

If they treat turtles like Avatar mixed with CGI I will be VERY PLEASED

The thing is, what else could they do to differenciate it from the 2003 cartoon series? That show has only been off the air for about a year (if that), and it started airing only about 6 years ago. I'm not particularly excited about the new series just because the 2k3 series is still fresh in my mind, but I can certainly understand their desire for a new angle. It's pretty early to be rebooting TMNT for TV anyway, so they kind of needed a hook to seperate themselves from the 2k3 one. I wish there was a better way than to do a CG show, but that's definitely an instantly identifiable signal to the viewer that this is something new.

To be honest, I'm kind of glad it's out of Laird's hands. He hasn't done much justice to TMNT since the 5th season (Lost Season) of the 2K3 show. The 2K7 film was a letdown and the Mirage comics have grinded to a halt. After 25 years, perhaps it's time for a change.

From what Laird said, that seems to be his reasoning behind selling it.
