Tobey's crying

My theater had some laughter. I didn't think it was a very laughable scene... but it was slightly awkward.

people laughed at first, when they heard the "TWANG" when Harry hit the webline. but then it got silent real quick.

what's funny about this "argument" is that it seems to come up a lot when men cry on screen. i've heard the same thing said about Leonard DiCaprio in "Titanic" and "The Man in the Iron Mask." i think people (men) are just uncomfortable with a man showing that kind of raw emotion.

i thought Tobey was the best he's ever been in this movie.

Well I had two different experiences with this. I just saw the movie today, initially at an IMAX. It was in the suburbs, and the people with this crowd were very mature and caught all the jokes, laughed when they were supposed to laugh and be emotional during the scenes which called for empathy.

Later on this evening while I was in the city, me and my friend decided since we liked the movie so much, we would go try and see it again. Most theatres we went to had been sold out or pre-booked for the entire weekend. So anyway, while watching the film in the city with a minority audience and by all means, less intellectual and/or mature ... they laughed their ass off at both crying scenes, as if it was the funniest thing they had ever seen. Me and my friend were looking around as if we missed a hidden joke or something. Because no one laughed at either scene at our first showing.

The whole experience at the second movie theatre sucked. Or electronic / ADD generation was constantly playing with cell phones, illuminating light every where, playing with games, texting, talking on the phone ... no one can just sit down and watch a movie from beginning to end without doing other things. No focusing, or thinking while watching the movie. Man do I feel bad to be attatched to this generation of idiots. Ugh ...

That was kinda weird mainly because they never really established who he was...I guess they were going for an Alfred/Batman kinda thing but still...

he was in the other two movies . . . we even hear his name in the second movie. :whatever:

spiderman 3 was obviously a comedy, so the crying didnt fit or work....

Yeah we hear his name, and we get quick glimpses. I understand what dude was saying. He's less than even a minor role, and all of a sudden he lays this huge lecture on Harry, which just so happens to change his entire outlook, while over the past 2 movies his best friend tried to do the same to no avail. It just seemed weird. Bernard waited this entire time to tell him this, and then is all "I loved your father" ... I too had to keep from laughing. Bernard could've at least added "no homo" after saying it. I mean, Norman had no wife or g/f and neither did Harry. Know what I mean? :oldrazz:

futile attempts to justify this horse crap....noble, but futile....

I disagree. Tobey handled the crying scenes in Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 well. It just seemed forced in this movie. It wasn't about people being uncomfortable with his crying.

also if u make Peter look like a bafoon the whole movie, like a ******ed clueless boyfriend....crying will only incite laughter....especially the way he cried...

I didn't realise what jerks people can be. I thought Tobey did a great job in the film. I can't believe or understand how anyone could laugh at that breakup scene between Peter and MJ. That was heartbreaking. First off, because of how involved we've all been with the characters, not just in the films, but for us Spidey fans Mary Jane and Peter Parker belong together(I think anyway). And secondly,I think we've all been there. Getting dumped and having your heart broken hurts a whole hell of alot. If that were real life and not a film,Peter probably would've gotten on his hands and knees and begged MJ not to leave him. It was a very sad moment,as was Harry's death.

The people in my theatre just groaned. I think his crying was convincing in the break-up scene but then when he's talking to harry he seems alright.

Oh, and slightly off topic here. What the hell are they doing in a freakin coffee shop? Peter just got dumped. Hard. They should be in a bar or something! You know, grab a beer. I understand they did it so we could have the pie scene at the end but seriously... a pastry shop? When you get dumped do you get a beer or buy a muffin? :)

I don't know what he did, Tobey IS a great actor and he nailed the drama scenes before, but this time it was all just so akward. After the first hour I thought neither one of the cast wanted to be there. They all acted like wood. THC had like 2 faces: normal and grim. Kirsten was annoying as always and even Tobey was sleepwalking during the first half. And when Tobey started crying I just had to laugh, I didn't want to but it was this "funny feeling in the stomach, you just can't hold it in"-laugh. Kirsten wasn't much convincing either. I hade a big smile on my face when Peter hit her. She just deserved it. She's annoying like "Smallville"'s Lana. I just can't stand her. The only good actor in this movie was James Franco. Harry alone saved the movie from falling apart.

People laughed in my cinema - including me and my mates, really bad acting.

Where the Hell did all these under 100 post negative reviewing n00bs come from?!

We decided to take time out from our busy lives to post reviews so you '1000 post no lives' get a clear picture of how the general public feel.

LOL, There was a lot of laughing during the break up scene. I was surprised that so many people were laughing. Not so much w/ the death though.

Depends. I don't drink, so I'd probably do something like work out or drive the souped up car at extreme speeds to work off the anger. Peter drinks obviously with the champage and what not, but I don't think he drowns his sorrows, as it were.

I had a hard time with Tobey's ability to pull off tears since the first movie. Him crying over his uncle was so badly done I still cringe when I see it. Funny thing, I've seen guys like Brad Pitt and Russel Crowe cry and they pull it off nicely and they are way bigger jocks than Tobey. I don't know what it is about Tobey's face, but when the wetworks start, I get a negative reaction, like he's faking it or something. He's a great actor so long as he doesn't cry.

Not to be insensitive or anything, but I'd LOVE to see how some guys around here would react if their close girlfriends dumped them ...

I thought that Tobey did just fine. There was a lot of crap that was dished to Peter ... Who wouldn't be sobbing?

^We're guys....we been trained to not show that kind of emotion unless somebody dies. And even then, it has to be like slow tears, not blubbering. We've all cried at one point, but it's still not deemed the man thing to do in the media. I've known a girl that was like, she could never date a dude that cries more than she does.

Yeah, not to mention that he had loved mary jane since day one. It's not the dumping itself that I dislike but they way it was done. In a park, on a sunny day, with Peter coming up with flowers and then getting trashed. It was all very badly handled imo.

@terry78
Driving around in your car at high speeds? I prefer a few beers in a bar if you don't mind. :D
j/k

I love how the crying was, looked frikkin' real and raw. BOOOYAH B**CH!!
