Tom and Jerry meet Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

They did the same with the Wizard of Oz, so not surprised with this move.

At least they went with the '71 film...

They sent Sherlock Holmes on a literal goose chase, this shouldn't be bemusing.

Maybe they want to pay tribute to Gene Wilder.

I broke down and streamed the Jetsons meet the WWE cartoon a couple weeks ago. Big Show as the villain trying to take over the future via robotic wrestlers was something I could not pass up.

Yeah, it looks like they just took the soundtrack to the 1971 movie and put new animation to it to include Tom and Jerry.

I wonder what Gene Wilder's estate makes of this? And Roald Dahl's...

Roald Dahl hated the 1971 movie. So I doubt his estate cares about this.

I don't follow the hate for the Tim Burton movie.

I prefer the '71 version for nostalgia but the Tim Burton version is actually a more faithful adaptation of the book and the child actors can actually act (Veruca was the only one who was better in the original). I don't really have anything against it other than Johnny Depp's portrayal of Wonka gets more annoying with time. I guess the biggest complaint against it is it's an unnecessary remake, which I can understand.

Wilder and Depp's portrayal were both kind of on point if you read the book. They kind of embellished the crazy with Burton's version though.

The haircut was by far the most unsettling part about Depp's Wonka.

I sorta like like how out of touch Depp's Wonka was. But in the end...

Wilder > Depp

Depp's Wonka came off like an annoying man child. None of the kids except Charlie were particularly memorable.

The Burton version may have more from the book, but the '71 version was more fun and the kids and adults were better. Not to mention Wilder's Wonka was a perfect blend of eccentric and genius. Plus the songs in the '71 version were much better.

I never really got a sense of how poor Charlie was in the seventies movie. His grandparents sleep in a communal bed while his mom does laundry all the time. I did like the portrayal of Charlie's family in Burton's version because it was more accurate to the book.

Well, I watched it Friday and here's my thoughts:

Although not the greatest animated remake, it's more palatable than "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" with Johnny Depp. They cut out quite a few parts to make room for Tom and Jerry and they have a little more depth on Slugworth (Mr. Wilkinson). It also has appearances by Spike and Droopy. It also makes you have more respect for the original classic movie as well.

Eagerly awaiting "Tom and Jerry Meet The Texas Chainsaw Massacre".
