Tom Hiddleston is Loki

I wont lie, that would be the one disappointing part of the film if I dont see Loki doing any magic.

@ First Avenger Why is it unlikely he'll be flying? because you didnt see it in the trailer? Even though we saw the trailer guys it is a trailer...they need to keep some things under wraps they cant show us everything our little nerd hearts desire.

I think we will see magic, I'm just not sure how blatant it will be. I suspect we're getting the Tolkien approach at the beginning of the movie, where the magic is subtle and easy to miss unless you're looking for it (psychic powers for example). I think at the very least we'll get the shape shifting for sure (please can we have dragons Marvel? Pretty please?)

Maybe we'll get more blatant magic as Loki gets more powerful, but I doubt we'll be getting a D&D-esque fireball display of power (though I would kill to see Loki spontaneously combust someone with a snap of his fingers; it would be glorious). If we do get it blatant, it will probably happen if there's a really big fight.

I for one would kill if we get to see Mephisto dealing with Loki.

Mephisto, was in Ghost Rider and probably is still owned by 20th Centruy Fox, therfore, I don't think there would be much chance of seeing him appear in this film.

So unfair. We really need to see Loki spinning deals, especially if he's going to be in Avengers. The other Marvel movies have been pretty light in terms of leading villains. Loki's the only one with sizzle.

mephisto is owned by sony i beleive, as ghostrider was a sony film i think

Could just be movie magic, though. What made action heroes have infinite bullets in the '80s? I'd love for Loki to use some magic, don't get me wrong; but I'm not really holding my breath for it.

They're probably just going to limit his powers to shapeshifting, which was more or less the extend of his abilities in the myths. And I think that's all Loki needs to be a good villain. He's always worked better as a manipulator than a magic fighter in my opinion.

I like him more powerful. At least comparable to Thor. It underscores how neglected he was as a kid, since he excelled so much at magic but still couldn't earn Odin's approval. Plus, it allows for the climactic 1-on-1 fights between Thor and Loki. If Loki were just a shapeshifter with some knives, he'd get creamed.

But yeah, for the movie, that's fine.

Wallander, The Fifth Woman (starring Kenneth Branagh and featuring Tom Hiddleston) is going to start airing October 17th, 2010 on Masterpiece Mystery, and can be located on PBS. Found this clip with some behind the scenes and it talks to Tom Hiddleston about his character. Just in case anyone is interested in seeing it. Link below.

Hey !

Iam new to this site and one of the main reasons for joining is out of excitment for this movie . I saw the trailers and was blown away, and out of all the characters loki stood out for me . Tom Hiddleston is going to steal the show of that I have no doubt , from reading the interviews and doing some reading on the character ( lol I shouldn't have cause now I know his true parentage ). How its going to play out its gonna be amazing , the actor said he drew insperation from peter o toole in the movie lion in the winter , look up the clip on youtube of him its called my life speech .. Mind Blowing !!! you can feel the sadness and the rage and I think thats what loki is gonna be like , when it all hits the fan . let me know what you think

Welcome aboard LadyLoki! Yeah we're all pretty much excited over the Coming of Thor. :D

Welcome. I agree with you that Tom might give the best performance of the movie. He will certainly steal the show in some scenes.

I agree, you could tell from Hiddleston's interviews that he's very serious about his portrayal of Loki.

I wouldn't count Hemsworth out just yet though, because based on what I've seen in the trailers I think he's going to suprise alot of people in a good way.

I really think they outdid themselves with Loki's design in this film--he's easily the coolest looking character so far. Actually, I'd love to see the design carried over to the comics (naturally with some adjustment to account for the less futuristic designs in the current comics).

I don't know about it "easily" being the best, because Thor,Odin, Fandral, Volstagg, and The Frost Giant's designs are just as amazing as Loki's imo

I also agree with you too big thor regarding Chris Hemsworth I think will do fantastic as thor and what makes it so intresting is that both him and loki go through this emotional journey but on different ends of the spectrum, where as you see Thor becoming the type of person he needs to be by being knocked down and having to find humility through being vunerable proberly for the first time in his life and through that he becomes a hero .

as for loki his is like the the other way around his stems from what I understand from being the odd one out and of course he finds out that he is very much alone , he knows he cant compete with thor in the same way so he descovers his true power but uses it in a different way . His anger and sense of feeling betrayed is what fuels it and its been building for a while , juding by what I read on the character .Thats what draws me to him because you know its gonna happen and he becomes the badass people love to hate. Not to mention tom is better looking hehehe !

so both actors will I think do a fantastic job in bringing these journeys to life and its going to be really fun to watch . :yay: I would say the fight between them is gonna be intense and the fact this is done in a superhero movie is pretty awesome.

It would be so effing cool if we saw Loki sat like that in the movie.

I think he does something similar to it according to this quote from an interview with tom hiddleston "there’s this fantastic shot of me on the throne where it’s like straight out of that sort of iconic image where he’s got the staff and he’s slouching in it. He’s like, got a problem with that? "

great interview !!!!

he is gonna be so badass in this movie !!!

Yep Ladyloki, I remember reading that interview and I was gonna post but you beat me to the punch (lol).
