Tom Hiddleston: Loki Redux

Isn't Tom extremely skinny right now?
I wouldn't say extremely skinny, but yes... he dropped weight for a vampire role in Only Lovers Left Alive (I'm not complaining though... a shirtless scene would be a shirtless scene no matter his physical state... damn it, sorry I keep bringing that up :oldrazz: *lol* - but the skinnier look could work for a punished Loki)

I believe that role is also why he hasn't tried growing his hair out or dying it this time around. They were still filming as of August and he may still be needed for pick-ups, so it won't surprise me if he does a complete wig for Loki.

Yeah seriously. It's Thor: The Dark World lol Not Loki: For the Fangirls

I am sorry lol, but reading comic books far before the MCU exited, Loki is a character who I figured...NEVER EVER in a million years, would ever have fan girls. What the hell Tom!

*lol* Sorry... I'll fully admit, I was pretty much solely a Thor fangirl when the Thor film came out, didn't really pay much attention to Tom's Loki other than he did an awesome job acting the part. It was the edgier look in Avengers that turned me into a Loki girl (Thor is still my absolute fav of the heroes though)

Personally I think the fangirl mentality is great. I think the likes of Loki could never have "fangirls" either but personally I think it just helps adds to these characters being successful. Chris Hemsworth apparently has a fangirl following as well, my Aunt included lol.

If it makes the MCU/Marvel more popular or successful in the box office, I say bring on the fangirls! (Even if the "fangirls" are in a minority)

Aw, thanks. Not too excited about the wig. I loved his hair in the Avengers and wigs never quite feel right imo. But hey, maybe they will pull something off.

As someone who has watched plenty of films because of my affections for the female cast members, I completely agree.

At this moment this is the closest we Loki Fans will get to seeing Loki (Tom Hiddleston is the guy's name just so you know. :p ) in a half naked state:

Soak it all in my friends! Oh, and the other guy in the image isn't that bad looking either. :D

Now Thor and chris having fangirls is okay lol. Thor has fangirls IN the comics lol. almost every time he's on earth lol "ohhh, those shoulders, what I'd give to spend an hour with him!" haha... the thing is, they are tom fangirls, err, tom as loki fangirls lol....did fangirls read comics before the movies? I bet most of them havent.

Like I said, Loki, in my eyes, is NOT a character that would have fangirls, you guys aren't fangirls of the marvel character Loki, you are fangirls of Tom Hiddleston's portrayal of Loki. Which, in my eyes is a bit different than his comic counter part.

Now, given comic book Loki, my point is, I find it very strange that Loki has fan girls, because Loki is not a character who attracts fangirls, but Tom's is.

there, that's my point.

(it irritates me because Loki has always been my second favorite villain, second to only thanos, for how he is, and seeing fangirls gushing over him, because of Tom, not because of Loki, just bothers me lol) I want the fangirls to actually read the comics and see how Loki is in the 616 universe, so they can get my point.

I am sorry, the only reason I am being like this is because Loki is one of my favorite characters in Marvel, infact, number 3 right behind Thanos and Thor. When I read thor comics that have Loki in it, he is evil, manipulative, he basically has me biting my tongue, like, wtf! that bastard, basically he makes the reader, well me anyway, fustrated, and hate him. Which is why I think he is such an awesome villain. This villain, who I have grown to love, being bombarded with fangirls because of an actor that portrays him, instead of knowing a bit more of the characters history, and liking him for who he is in the comics...it just sorta ruins Loki for me. Not Tom's loki...just..Loki. Like, Thor is my favorite character in the MCU. I want him to be treated and understood as he should. But it isn't because of chis, it's because I was a Thor fan for years before the MCU even existed. Thor was and always has been my favorite super hero. So it bothers me to see people gushing over one of my favorite villains because of the actor that plays him, without necessarily knowing the character as he was written. Personally, I find it a bit ignorant. If they are indeed Loki fangirls, then they will go read thor comics, that have Loki arcs in them, and will realize how cold he is, and say, hey yeah, this isn't a character that I should be gushing over, but he is an awesome villain and an awesome character! unfortunately, that doesn't happen. They aren't Loki fans, Not Loki fangirls, they are Tom's portrayal of Loki fangirls. Generally, another user on here, a friend of mine I grew up with actually put it this way ^ Loki is his favorite character in all of Marvel, and it disgusts him.

Don't get me wrong, I love tom, I think he is awesome as Loki, unfortunately he is good looking lol, but that is my thoughts on the matter. I don't mean it in a hostile way, but hopefully some of you can get my point

I don't see the need to get worked up over the Tom/Loki lovefest from fangirls. Can't it be that people are attracted to him as an actor and not just because he's playing a villain in Loki? I say whatever brings in more fans to the MCU is fine as long as Marvel doesn't start watering down the quality of the films to cater to drive-by fans.

You know, serial killers have tons of fan girls.

I respect your opinion, I really do... you're probably right that a lot of Loki fangirls hadn't read the comics before the films. Though since the films I know it has brought some to the comics. A couple of my twitter friends, even just before Avengers came out, would often tweet about the Thor comic they had just gotten so that they could read more Loki (and these were girls that hadn't really been into comics before). Personally, I own and have read the beautifully illustrated Blood Brothers. But ultimately, for me - though I love comic book movies, I've just never really been able to get into the comic books themselves. *shrugs shoulders* It's not through lack of trying, comic books themselves just aren't my thing.

I do realize that comic-Loki is NOT the same as MCU Loki, believe me I've never assumed he is. It's not like the girls in this thread, though, spend every single post gushing about Tom. From what I've seen, a lot of us partake in the discussion. I try to post any new interviews or news that's Loki related that Tom has done recently if it hasn't been posted yet, if someone has asked a question that hasn't been answered yet that I happen know an answer to, I'll throw an answer out there. I'll speculate along with others. It's just when news & even speculation is slow...well... can you blame some of us (namely me, as of late - again, my apologies) for going a little stir crazy in a thread that's for both Loki AND Tom Hiddleston (given the thread title)?

That's just my point of view, though. Hope it makes sense.

I think the reason why the girls and gay guys really like Loki in the MCU is from Tom Hiddleston's portrayal of the character. Not all of them, like myself, have read the comics. I was mostly into the X-Men and the Spider-man comics when I used to read them and had only a cursory knowledge of who Thor was. But with the Thor movie, that was my first real introduction to the characters themselves. And Loki in the movies is a three dimensional villain. But it's not the character or personality that attracts those that have a crush on the character. I think it has more to do with a physical attraction to fantasize about in that Tom Hiddleston as Loki in full costume looks ravishingly attractive.

@jaqua99: if I misrepresent your position in any of my edits, I apologize. I only intend to get to the heart of what you are saying to keep this post from being any longer than it is.

the thing is, they are tom fangirls, err, tom as loki fangirls lol....did fangirls read comics before the movies? I bet most of them havent.

you guys aren't fangirls of the marvel character Loki, you are fangirls of Tom Hiddleston's portrayal of Loki. Which, in my eyes is a bit different than his comic counter part.

This villain [Loki], who I have grown to love, being bombarded with fangirls because of an actor that portrays him, instead of knowing a bit more of the characters history, and liking him for who he is in the comics...it just sorta ruins Loki for me. Not Tom's loki...just..Loki. . . . it bothers me to see people gushing over one of my favorite villains because of the actor that plays him, without necessarily knowing the character as he was written. . . . If they are indeed Loki fangirls, then they will go read thor comics, that have Loki arcs in them, and will realize how cold he is, . . . unfortunately, that doesn't happen. They aren't Loki fans, Not Loki fangirls, they are Tom's portrayal of Loki fangirls. .

My first comment is to challenge the notion that Hiddleston's portrayal of Loki is somehow less valid than the portrayals of Loki among the various Thor titles.

Loki is fictional, so actually, *any* depiction of him is mitigated through the interpretation of the artist portraying him. When we are talking about mythological Loki, it's really Storri Sturluson's portrayal (for the most part). In the books, it's Simonson's portrayal of Loki, or JMS', or, heaven help us, Fraction's portrayal. In the movies, it's Hiddleston's portrayal (influenced, no doubt, by those directing him and the scriptwriters).

My second comment is to challenge the notion that if one has not read X number of books prior to seeing the movie, one's opinion is less valid and has not earned the right to express it. Everyone starts somewhere when coming to a franchise.

Like I said, Loki, in my eyes, is NOT a character that would have fangirls,

Now, given comic book Loki, my point is, I find it very strange that Loki has fan girls, because Loki is not a character who attracts fangirls,

When I read thor comics that have Loki in it, he is evil, manipulative, he basically has me biting my tongue, like, wtf! that bastard, basically he makes the reader, well me anyway, fustrated, and hate him. Which is why I think he is such an awesome villain. ... I want him to be treated and understood as he should. ... If they are indeed Loki fangirls, then they will go read thor comics, that have Loki arcs in them, and will realize how cold he is, and say, hey yeah, this isn't a character that I should be gushing over, but he is an awesome villain and an awesome character!

I submit to you that Hiddleston is capturing that. Hiddleston's Loki is indeed cold, manipulative, and evil. And good looking. And that's a reflection of the real world. There are some handsome bastards walking around; as Anubis pointed out, serial killers have fans. (Ted Bundy capitalized on his looks to find victims).

Now, to the extent that any fan deludes him or herself in thinking that Loki is an admirable character or one with whom it is safe to spend time, that's a fair point. However, I think Godzilla2000 has a good insight here:

I think the reason why the girls and gay guys really like Loki in the MCU is from Tom Hiddleston's portrayal of the character. . . . And Loki in the movies is a three dimensional villain.

(to the next point)

Don't get me wrong, I love tom, I think he is awesome as Loki, unfortunately he is good looking lol,

But it's not the character or personality that attracts those that have a crush on the character. I think it has more to do with a physical attraction to fantasize about in that Tom Hiddleston as Loki in full costume looks ravishingly attractive.

And there's nothing wrong with admiring Hiddleston's physical appearance. If we as a group can spend plenty of time in the Kat Dennings thread discussing her chest, then spending 6 posts total in this thread commenting on Tom Hiddleston's appearance is perfectly fine.

It's like that with any fandom. JMS reinvents Thor and suddenly people who had never even heard of the character are huge Thor fans. Warren Ellis writes Exremis and all of a sudden Iron Man fans start springing up. Character reinventions almost always bring in new fans, and honestly character reinventions are the only thing that keep them trucking along for 50+ years.

The movies are the same thing, on a larger scale. The reality of the situation is that these comics only have a certain reach, and are only aimed at a certain audience. The films take the characters and reinvent them for a wider audience. New fans are going to appreciate that, and maybe go back and not like all they see about the comics. That's fine. There's no reason to disparage that. You'll always have the comics you love, even if the film character is not exactly the same.

If you appreciate the film portrayal, I don't understand why it gaining a wider fandom should be upsetting. It smells a bit like the elitist "true fanz" syndrome you see on the internet. Different interpretations of the same characters will lead to different fandoms for the same characters. That should be embraced. It's good for the company, it's good for the continuing success of the character, it's good for the format. How and why and which version of a character breaks out doesn't in any way depreciate earlier or different portrayals of the same character. And how and why and which version of a character people come to appreciate shouldn't be a cause for disdain.

And there's nothing wrong with admiring Hiddleston's physical appearance. If we as a group can spend plenty of time in the Kat Dennings thread discussing her chest, then spending 6 posts total in this thread commenting on Tom Hiddleston's appearance is perfectly fine.

You see...this is what I just don't understand. If men can fawn all over the "hotness" of girls like Mila Kunis, Scarlet Johansson, Kat Dennings, etc. etc. why do they pitch a fit when we ladies and gay males gush over Tom Hiddleston as Loki in a thread dedicated just to him? There's a distinct, lopsided double standard here. It's not like I'm going into the Kat Dennings thread here and lambasting the guys for their drooling over the actress in her own thread.

That's why I limit my Tom/Loki gushing to another forum. You're welcome to join us there if you want. No bad crazy Tumblr fans. :yay: :cwink:

As to Loki being good-looking in the movies, I see nothing wrong with that. I admit to not being knowledgeable of the comic books but I am familiar with the Norse myth. In the Norse myth, Loki is described as being a handsome fellow. So I am happy that at least the movie got this one right. :woot:

About fangirls and stuff, yeah it can get crazy sometimes especially to those who have been long time fans of the comics. You just have to tolerate them and just think of the positives they bring like the possibility of more movies.

*Soaking, soaking, soaking,...*

*Soaking, soaking, soaking,...*

A girl who was working there while filiming the scene said that at one time the towel wrapped around Tom dropped. She didn't get a good look because she covered her eyes or turned around or something but she said she was impressed with whatever she saw. :yay:

*Go go Killjoy powers!* Hmmm...I hate to say it but well endowed men tend to not be as faithful as you'd like them to be though. ~_~ That somehow lowers my level of fawning a bit.

If you've been a fan of Tom and have been spending lots of time in the internet scouring for pictures of him, like me, you would have already noticed early on about what fans has dubbed as the Monster Crotch. Because the man sits like a ****e. Can't keep his legs closed, sitting or standing. :woot:

And we like it that way. :cwink:

Well-endowed men hurt. Kat Dennings does have an amazing rack.

Let me tell you the last comics I actually bought and read and tried to keep up on: Talespin and Sonic the Hedgehog. I am effing old. And, I've always fangirled over stuff.

I only caught onto Marvel thanks to the X-Men films. I loved Iron Man, I loved Thor. I crushed on Hemsworth first. Then I saw Avengers. Yes, I think both Loki and Tom are attractive. Realistically, the latter would be an ideal mate, but I already have a husband, so that's out the window. ;)

Point being? I have hormones, attraction happens. I'm not off the charts psycho about it either, but I do have a soft spot in my heart for Loki thanks to Tom. I've always loved the villian. I'm the pessimistic, b*tchy sort. My two cents. :)

And now, I will go back to lurking until any more Thor 2 Loki news surfaces...

Uh yes, I have noticed that kind of buzz from the fans about Tom's manliness.
I'd think with...um...all that manliness in the nether regions it would be a bit uncomfortable to sit too close legged. All that...uh...squeezing on the man parts wouldn't feel too good during a prolonged period of time. I suppose. But then again what do I know since I am a woman after all. I suppose I can see why sex addicts, male and female, would want to own Tom, not that I condone the objectification of the man by people like that though. A man possessing the intelligence that he has deserves much better a world of enlightenment.
*whistles to herself*

okay, I voiced my opinion the best I could. I am sorry for bringing it up. Can we get back on track and on topic to Loki? MCU Loki. this is getting unsettling, the last few posts

I too feel kinda guilty sometimes when I am objectifying Tom because he is a very talented, intelligent man with amazing personality.

Back to Loki. Where are the Loki pics from Thor 2? Why are they making us wait this long?!

I guess the level of objectification is up to the person being objectified though. If they have no issue with being used in that manner then it's fine. But if they do I would respectfully comply and adjust my behavior accordingly to be more civilized and enlightened.
