Tom Holland reuniting with the Russo Brothers for "Cherry"

Its becoming clear that Netflix is taking too much of a hands off approach to content production. Directors don't only need 100% freedom all the time. They need guidance and outside voices to give them advice and steer them some. They need good producers and execs. Netflix is just throwing money at directors and saying, "Do whatever."

Its Apple+ actually I think, but yes.

There is definitely nothing wrong with studio interference every once in a while, because in cases like this it probably would have benefitted the movie, especially when it comes to those bloated running times.

It's Apple+, but I also do think Netflix suffers from it aswell which is why they have so many mediocre to trash movies that come out every month and only like 1 or 2 actual good ones.

My favorite internet critic James Berardinelli gave it 3 out of 4 stars, says Holland is good and pulls off the part which requires a lot of range, but the screenplay is too scattershot and tries to do too much, meaning it doesn't fully succeed at all the stuff it's trying to say.

Cherry | Reelviews Movie Reviews

Im watching Randolph’s review and shes calling it one of the worst movies ever made :funny:

So what seems to be so bad about this? Incoherent narrative?

The pause I took before laughing at just the idea of this.

I think the Russo's wanted to do something smaller and more personal after all the MCU movies, so I'm not too surprised/worried. I'm pretty positive The Gray Man will be awesome.

The Russos have practically given Tom Holland the Oscar for Best Actor for 2021, doing press for Cherry.I wouldn’t be surprised if he isn’t even nominated.
But, you never know.

His performance is being generally-praised, but the movie itself seems to be flopping, which will likely keep him from getting any momentum behind him.

Yeah and he also has Chaos Walking coming up which will likely flop(after being declared unfilm able)

I am 75 % in and urgh.. That movie dont work. It feels like 6 movies in a row. Its Forrest Gump on drugs, but it dont work. Tom Hollands performance is super though, he tries really everything.

Give this man a strong drama picture. Its time.

I feel kinda bad that so far he’s had two movies in a row (The Devil All The Time and Cherry) where he’s almost universally praised but the movie itself is a flop through no fault of his own. He just needs to find a better project.

Holland was fantastic in this, but holy crap was this thing unfocused and way too damn long IMO. Half way through I honestly just wanted it to end, but it just kept going instead. It's not a bad movie though and I really did enjoy the performances and the stylish direction, but its super forgettable.
