DC Television James Gunn's Suicide Squad Spinoff ‘Peacemaker’ Starring John Cena on HBO Max

It’s funny to see Eric Nally/Foxy Shazam featured so prominently in this show. No joke I used to work with his mom. Small world!
 
Perfectly fine finale, but people are gonna hate it because it didn't fulfill their shared universe wishes. I am actually encouraged because it kept in line with Gunn's "you don't have to watch one project to understand what's happening in the next" mantra more than I expected, as I was worried about all the "it sets up Man of Tomorrow" talk. I just don't want that to become a thing, personally. Straight-up killed the MCU for me. This resolved a lot of character stuff pretty nicely, I thought.

I'm just sad there was no Lanterns trailer. :weeping: Knight of the Seven Kingdoms supposedly ends on March 1st so I'm kinda expecting Lanterns' premiere date to be March 8th, or somewhere around there. I guess Welcome to Derry is our next best hope for a trailer. In that instance, I'm just waiting for it to pop up online, cuz no way I'm watching that. :o

It was more of a standard ending than I expected. I thought it felt a bit choppy in the back half, but overall all the character beats worked for me.

Episode 7 was my favourite overall I think. Really enjoyed this season. It could have maybeeee used one more episode (divide this one up and add a bit more connective tissue).
 
Great character beats, understated cameos and some nice teases for future projects. I do think Gunn needlessly hyped up the last three episodes and fuelled the fires a few too many times. That said, the show feels very connected to the DCU without being homework. Can't wait to see what's next!

As promised. But I do think that as a fan of DC Comics one would be excited about the introduction of

Checkmate and Planet Salvation - which I thought to be Dino Island - for a second there at the end. As well as for where this takes other characters, such as Rick Flag and ARGUS teaming up with Lex Luthor.

Sometimes I feel like Marvel's cameo-ville trailer for the next thing kind of approach has badly messed with fans' understanding of good storytelling.

And mind you, there HAS been great storytelling IN the MCU , but I've also never been quite a fan of Kevin Feige 's "keep teasing them with the bigger picture even though we have a half assed movie" kind of approach. Oh wow, Charlize Theron will play so and so in the MCU. What a surprise! Dang! Harry Styles! Wowza. Hercules! Bazinga!

Not happening here. Batman's not popping up for the sake of it in this season finale.

And yet, BIG THINGS have been brought into the DCU here , while providing a fitting conclusion to the characters' story this season.

And that weird

? Absolutely loved that!

If i cared more about these characters more id probably enjoy it more but i don't so it felt like a lot of wasted space. Ending Earth X two episodes before the finale was a mistake imo. They could've done that for the finale and still hit a lot of these moments imo

Yeah, I think that's the difference. Aside from the one character appearing in Creature Commandos (Clayface), it hasn't felt like the DCU prioritizes the next project(s) over the current one. We just get to spend more time with some of these characters.

Plus, we still had an insane amount of returning characters. Flag Sr, Flag Jr, Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner, Maxwell Lord, Lex, Otis, Sydney, the other people from Luthor Corp, and Mori from the DOD. That's a level of interconnectivity that most MCU shows can't even dream of.

That's honestly the most important part for me. I can't wait to see these characters again.
 
Best episode of the season for me. Just all around great character work and acting from the main group; I really love all of these characters and this episode really showed off why they work so well together.
And now with new additions to the 11th Street Kids (Sasha, Fleury and Judomaster) Checkmate will be awesome to see. I was hoping that’s here they were going and I’m glad it is. Also, they did a pretty good job of keeping you guessing where Flag was going with his plans or whether he was truly a good or bad guy. At this point, he’s awful. I can almost justify what he did to Chris because of what happened to his son but doing all of this to send metahumans to an offworld prison is despicable. Hopefully Superman and Checkmate can team up to stop it.

Now just give me Anson Mount as King Faraday!
 
The finale was not what I was expecting. I thought maybe we would get a bigger cameo. It does set up Luther’s return in MOT without the casuals having to watch Peacemaker. Not a fan at all at how they introduced Checkmate but they at least made Peacemaker self contained as I can’t imagine these characters in the DCU movies. I love how Flagg Sr. has turned to the dark side. That was a cool way to end season 2.
 
Did they give any reason why the Kids decided to call it Checkmate? I guess it doesn’t matter but I was wondering if the name was a reference to something that happened this season that I missed. Obviously they chose that name because Sasha and Chris are members in the comics but in-universe I’m not sure why they called it that.

If Ads and Judomaster played chess instead of Scrabble that would have been a good opportunity but they didn’t so I’m not sure why they picked that name. It doesn’t matter but I’m curious.

I'm pretty sure these characters WILL pop up in future DCU movies.
