Tom Hooper to direct movie of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Cats'

Do they though? Do they? We don’t know what happened to theatre cat when he died. We don’t know where he went.

Existential cat crisis.
Actually this is a good point. More like One Cat Might Go to Heaviside. Or might end up on the street, run over by a car.

Now you’ve put the image in my head of one of these weird human/cgi cats smushed on the sidewalk.

Not gunna lie all, this movie might be horrible, but damned if I’m not excited to see this ridiculousness on the big screen. It’s going to be entertaining, no doubt about that.

If it wasn't coming out during IX, I'd probably go see it. But I will probably be busy watching IX like 9 times.

Eh... I have a couple of close friends who adore that show and are part of the fan community (yeah, there still is one, with conventions and stuff), but nothing will ever convince me that Linda Hamilton hooking up with the lovechild of a lion and Fabio isn’t creepy.

Nothing wrong with outside species/race of Being relationships in fiction between consenting adults, it's not the same as dating your pets as Xenos (extraterrestrials or magical creature beings), furries (animal humanoid people like Minerva Mink or Bojack Horseman), mutants and cyborgs/androids are people who are different as races and species of beings and I do support fictional outside species/race romance even in the 80s Beauty and the Beast series, Cathy and Matt on Alien Nation the series/movies, Hatton Slayden's amazing sci-fi/fantasy artworks, Bojack Horseman (different furries with different ones even with humans like Kyle and Charolette a deer woman and a human man married), Regular show (Eillen and Rigby a mole person and a raccoon person to Margaret's parents being a human male and a bird woman to Skips and Mona a human woman and a ape man to CJ and Mordecai a bird person and a cloud woman etc.), Wolf Children (ever seen that amazing Japanese animated fantasy drama from 2012 about a human woman who meets a wolf man as both fall in love and produce 2 hybrids as she raises them for 13 years as the kids must decide who they want to be human or pure wolf?), Armitage III (Cyborg and human), Star Trek (different races/species of beings with different ones even with androids and humans), Doctor Who (even Vastra and Jenny), Warcraft (orcs and elves in relationships even human male and orc woman) etc. I mean I even have a friend who does a story series where Minerva Mink from Animaniacs (that sexy blonde furry mink woman) dates/romances a human man. Nothing wrong with all that between consenting adult beings.

Wow sheer laziness from the looks of the trailer, why not hire make up artists on actors than put humans in CGI suits? sheer laziness.

Why not un-retire Rick Baker as he did good jobs with cat-people in the past like Beauty and the Beast the series and Thriller? he would had nailed it than the CGI abominations in the trailer.

Is it me or does Taylor Swift's Cat lady from the new Cats movie resembles Selina Kyle from the Tyger Tyger episode of Batman TAS? remember that episode? one of my fave Batman episodes.

only difference is that Selina Kyle as a catgirl in that episode was actually sexy (of course Selina is lovely no matter how she looks) compared to Taylor's Cat lady..

Hell even Cleo from Heathcliff, that exotic alien cat dancer from Star Trek V (one of the best things about it), Callie Briggs from Swat Kats, M'ress from Star Trek, Mirage from Aladdin, Jenny from Bucky O'Hare, Felicia from Darkstalkers games, Aishia Clan Clan from Outlaw Star, Pam and Polly the witch sisters from Eek the Cat, Kit Mambo from Animalympics (remember the lioness woman?), and Cheetara/Pumarya from Thundercats are even more attractive that the cat-lady from Cats in the photo, LOL.

Are you blind after that?
Can you still see it in the dark?
Would you watch it again
When you're home all alone?

:o

This thing is attached to Lion King. The responses were mostly silence with a few kids going "wow."

It’s a musical about magical/evil/theatre loving cats that all come out and sing songs about themselves and then the formerly hot cat goes to heaven/is reincarnated.

When I was younger I thought it was a UFO

Turns out it was a garage tire ascending

For me the biggest problem is that the sides of the head are smooth, making it obvious that they don't have human ears. That just looks too weird since their faces are completely human.

They should have given them all fur wigs to cover their heads and the sides of their faces like the stage version.

I guess it is too late to fix or change anything but I can't image the studio is happy with the way this is getting slaughtered in the arena of public opinion.

When does it come out? Can they go back and fix it at all?

If it's already being savaged now, isn't it an indicator of its reception when it's released?

Also, is this film likely to keep a PG rating, or is it going to end up R-rated because of its disturbing content?

It's supposed to come out in December.

I'm sure it's going to remain PG, but I doubt any kids are going to want to see it so it might as well be R!

There is absolutely no time to fix this before December. This is what the film and cats look like. I know there would have been endless concepts done before any of this was shot, but I have to believe the character design aesthetic was what the director wanted. I refuse to believe there was a single artist on the whole preproduction team who would have been ok with this design choice because by any standards of design the cats are awful to look at. This smacks of the director wanting the characters to look his way so the concepts artists and animators gave him exactly what he wanted, knowing full well how awful it looked.

Is there anyone out there who legitimately likes this? It seems like the consensus is completely, unanimously against it.
I like it.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I liked the trailer and see no problem with how the characters look.

I mean, it's like the stage musical but brought to life on a grander scale. IOW......it looks like Cats to me. shrugs.........

I love it when a director and studio try to go high brow with clear oscar bait musicals and for once it backfires on them by the masses

This is kind of what I’ve been saying. Cats the musical is really trippy and weird. And it looks like the movie will be to.

I saw this in front of TLK today expecting the absolute worst, but honestly it seemed like the majority of the crowd was really into the trailer. The kids in the audience had the most vocal reactions, but none of them sounded like they were creeped out or scared by it by it at all.

The best thing they can do is move this out of December to January or February, and stop worrying about Oscars. Right now their main concern should be reducing the damage as much as possible.

And it may not matter what Hooper wanted or wants. The studio might step in and take it out of his hands completely.

The opinion of the internet is meaningless. Remember the outrage over Will Smith's Genie? We all know how that ended.

Not saying that cats will be a hit like Aladdin (I strongly doubt it), of course.

I don't like it but I'm sort of... fascinated by how insane it looks? :hehe: To the point that I'm 100% sure I will eventually watch it. Maybe not in theaters, but I will watch it.

Why? Academy is still gonna nominate this, they are only slightly less out of touch than the people who give out Emmys

My GF wants to see this. I despise pretentious musical garbage like this with a passion.

I can only hope that sexy weird Taylor Swift is in it for more than a couple of minutes to give me something to at least look forward to.

Yes, I’m looking forward to hot cats with boobs.

This movie is evil incarnate.

But it’s existence is entirely justified just for this tweet.

AMAZING.

I never understood this musical. I saw it on broadway when I was young and fell asleep through most of it.
