Tom Hooper to direct movie of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Cats'

What's Hooper known for? What else has he made?
The King's Speech, Les Miserables, The Danish Girl, and the John Adams mini-series.

Just watched this. It somehow managed to be even worse than I thought. Forget the horrific visuals...the writing. Dear god, the writing. Even the music sucked, and I had expected that to at least be adequate.

I thought Les Miserables and the King's Speech were well received and even won Oscars. Maybe even the Danish Girl. How did Cats end up so terribly then?

I thought you were going to list a filmography more like John Waters.

Winning Oscars =/= worthy. A lot of people (including myself) have been critical of Hooper's directing skills for YEARS. The actors completely carried those previous movies (they couldn't really save Les Mis, though, as its mixed reviews were generous if you ask me), despite distractingly bad directing. He's a hack, and this simply woke everybody up to that reality, imo.

For a movie wall to wall with off-putting designs, it's impressive the mice and cockroaches stand out as so exceptionally horrific to look at.

Hoopers problems are behind the scenes eccentricities rather than a very bad resume.

Good directors are capable of making disasters as well. Maybe even more so.

A hack wouldn’t be able to make something as entertainingly bad as this.

I'm telling ya, check out the 1998 filmed version of the stage show if you want to see what this is supposed to look like.

There's really no way to turn it into a workable movie given the lack of plot, so I was surprised they even tried. The focus of the stage show is mostly on the dance aspect and there's really no way to translate that to a movie where the actors are really supposed to be cats.

Hooper is definitely a hack but Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Eddie Redmayne totally carried Les Mis and made that movie worth watching.

I still have no shame in saying cat Taylor Swift is hotter than human Taylor Swift.

Where was Rona, when this was released???
