Tom Hooper to direct movie of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Cats'

says something when this isn't as atrocious compared to your movie

I like it.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I liked the trailer and see no problem with how the characters look.

I mean, it's like the stage musical but brought to life on a grander scale. IOW......it looks like Cats to me. shrugs.........
The faces not fitting the heads is killing me. More then any of the other stuff, how they built heads that don't fit a lot of the faces is bizarre as hell. It leads to them looking like they have weird floating heads.

There is absolutely no time to fix this before December. This is what the film and cats look like. I know there would have been endless concepts done before any of this was shot, but I have to believe the character design aesthetic was what the director wanted. I refuse to believe there was a single artist on the whole preproduction team who would have been ok with this design choice because by any standards of design the cats are awful to look at. This smacks of the director wanting the characters to look his way so the concepts artists and animators gave him exactly what he wanted, knowing full well how awful it looked.

They could fix it by getting them all to dress in the Cats stages costumes and filming that. :o

The best thing they can do is move this out of December to January or February, and stop worrying about Oscars. Right now their main concern should be reducing the damage as much as possible.

And it may not matter what Hooper wanted or wants. The studio might step in and take it out of his hands completely.

Yeah, the studio might not want everyone forever thinking it's a monstrosity or the kind of film that everyone gathers to watch to laugh at it like The Room with Tommy Wiseau.

There isn't much to understand about the musical. It's a series of loosely connected songs based on a book of children's poems about cats. That's pretty much it. There's a very sketchy plot that just barely has anything to do with what's happening onstage but the bottom line is it's about a bunch of cats dancing for two hours.

I feel like the internet is just kinda jumping o the bandwagon as I feel like this could actually be pretty well received by regular people. Just a theory.

That's why I prefer listening to the album than watching the musical. It's like if someone wanted to write a jukebox musical from some artist's greatest hits, but then didn't bother to create any plot to connect all of it together.

Maybe Cats would work better if you thought of it like a concert than a musical, because concerts are like jukebox musicals without a plot but just a series of songs performed.

I agree. It's a very good show, the songs are enjoyable and the dancing is incredible, but South Pacific it ain't.

Eh, I dunno. I feel like at least half of the general audience will be creeped out by the designs.

Found this funny pic on Facebook of Cats, but with Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation!! :lmao::lmao:

Now THAT'S a movie I would pay to see. :funny:

The Double Toasted guys had a field day with this. The one dude was like, “Okay... Idris Elba is off my list for the next James Bond after seeing this.” :hehe:

Why? Academy is still gonna nominate this, they are only slightly less out of touch than the people who give out Emmys

Well you know, it’s going to be a couple years before “Green Book 2,” so they’ll switch to awarding mediocre musicals again for a while.

Those groups both have quite a bit of traveling to do to get to a point where they are just "out of touch" with most people, I think.

I hope Battinson’s catwoman looks like this. Like a cat with a human face hovering in the middle

If Nolan decides he wants to direct Fiddler on the Roof by God they will let him.

Maybe Zack Snyder will direct a musical as well! Joseph and his Amazing Sepiacolour Dreamcoat. :o
