Tom Rothman leaving Fox

Which is why he had the upper hand during the production of Prometheus. The pitch went something like this;

Though Ridley himself can be a difficult to work with.
He constantly fiddling with stuff and making something more then it should be.
Which can be great but also be bad.

He's doing in the name of art and vision though. Even if it's bad, it's noble.

Dunno if you're sarcastic but disagree.
Although i admire the effort , sometimes trying to make something more backfires big time.
For example if Ridley was given the shooting script of Aliens , he would've added esotheric elements like he did with Prometheus ( ques for life , what does it mean to be human etc.).

Ridley Scott is just not one of those directors who you should feel sorry for. the guy can not make up his mind durring pre production and script writting. 6-8 months is not enough to make a CHOICE? ? everytime a movie is 100-200 millions i understand why the studio is afraid. what has Ridpley Scott to lose? he gets the paycheck that he has in his contract if the movie bombs or not.

you think its normal to change your Notthingham script into a normal Robin Hood script?

But that's not inherently bad, is it? Artistic decisions are 50-50 when it comes to whether they'll work out or not. But that's art.

Scripts change all the time, even during shooting. Changing Nottingham to a RH prequel didn't work out, but I don't see why it's not normal.

maybe because its a big drastic change?:cwink: of course scripts change all the time. they change almost always. but the changes are small.

going from notthingham to RH and going from Alien prequel to Prometheus was a big change. insane big change. i mean for the love of god money was spend on the alien prequel. all of the concept art had to be payed.

So? It's not like Nottingham and the Alien Prequel were about to be shot and Ridley changed them last minute. They were being developed for a long time and somewhere along the way they changed. Also happens all the time (see: Tonight he comes -> Hancock). A script going as far to get concept art? Even more common. Big deal.

i think Notthingham to RH was closer to filming.

But not clsoe enough to be a disaster. Tonight He Comes was MUCH closer.

That doesn't sound so bad to me. I can't disrespect anyone for aiming high and missing the mark.

I wouldn't doubt it. IIRC Titanic and Avatar where Gianopolus' greenlights not Rothman's.

A lot of you guys also forget that Tom Rothman was the man who created Fox Searchlight.

He was,but its cool and hip to hate on people like Rothman and Avi Arad on the internet,so people will forget any good they have done.

Like it's cool to like Cesar Chavez? Maybe make some Tom Rothman shirts and see if you can sell them at hippy stores.

Rothman's idiotic moves outweigh his good ones to me. Good riddance.

I'm sure Hitler did something nice at some point, somewhere. Didn't make him any less of a ****.

Godwin takes over!

But seriously, comparison to Caesar Chavez and Hitler? You know we're talking about a movie exec, right? Dammit, Godwin.

I don't care if he leaves or not, but what I'm just saying is that I'm in the middle. If he left years ago, I'd be celebrating, but a lot of the hatred is worn out with Fox doing much better in the last few years. He had to had learned from those awful decisions from 2005-2009.

Holy crap, I never knew Godwin's law existed until I had to google your post! That's glorious. Should I have said Bin Laden, or do we want to enforce Godwin's law?

They all fall under the vague category of 'scumbag'.

Eh , i would be more impressed if they succeeded to a certain extent.
Sometimes less is more and you don't need to overanalyse something.

So ?
Yes he created Searchlight but he also screwed up many properties.
Chaseter is right. The bad stuff outweighs the good things he's done.

Still, changes for artistic reasons >>>> changes for money.
