Homecoming Tony Revolori is Flash Thompson

It'll probably work fine in-universe, but it is a far-cry from the source material.

...he's not even a bully now? Ugh...this is a huge part of his character development. If it's all friendly in the end it's not taking his paternal abuse and internalizing it, going to school and taking it out on those weaker than him...

but. It's Marvel, baby. :o

Flash is a minor character in the grander MCU. I'd like a classic Flash, but it's not the biggest deal if we don't get his 616 pathos and exact character representation in the MCU. Because realistically we aren't ever getting a Flash movie or even an Agent Venom movie.

He's a main character in the comics & he's a main character in this movie, so I'd say how he's represented matters. That's kinda like saying we shouldn't care about MJ's portrayal because she's a minor character in the grander MCU.

Flash is nowhere near as important to Spider-Man's mythos as MJ. I think it's telling that he was a bit part in both of the previous franchises. He's a fan favorite to be sure (heck, I love his character!!!) but his inclusion or changes won't perturb a large segment of the fanbase.

He was a bit part because both series didn't really focus on anybody else besides Peter, the love interest, Harry & the villain. The wider supporting cast was an afterthought. Flash has always been a staple & he's never been explored properly on film. He's more than just a stereotypical stock bully. This movie should have been their chance to flesh him out like the comics did since they're bringing back the original supporting cast from the 60s & the HS aspect has a bigger focus. But instead we get Flash in name only.

Flash is very important to the Mythos maybe not as important as MJ but he played a huge role in Peter'a High-school years. Even Carroll acknowledged his importance.

He's going to be the one getting bullied, and he goes through an arc so that by the end of the movie he becomes the bully we all know as Flash. :o

Like I said, I love Flash but changes to his character aren't a dealbreaker to me personally. I'll always have various comics that I love featuring him (plus his great incarnation on Spectacular) to hold me over if this version isn't a direct translation. I'm open to seeing whether I like the changes as they pertain to this world or not.

I wanted to bump this thread to say that I thought Revolori did a fine job as Flash Thompson. I'm reading early Spider-Man issues and he was actually less of a physical bully than people remember. Instead, he was an incessantly obnoxious blowhard, constantly mocking Peter. This movie made him someone very easy to hate, which I think fits early Flash Thompson quite well.

Yeah, from a characterization standpoint they got his persona down. He's just a *****ebag. That scene at the hotel where they're all going to the pool and he runs past Peter and slaps him on the ass all hard, I have seen bullies do that to dudes in school for no ****ing reason, lol.

Yea this flash was good. Felt more in line with how he usually is. Real huge *****bag

I felt he was fine. He wasn't physically intimidating but the way they wrote the character didn't really require that.

Plus the payoff with the car scene was great.

Yeah, Flash was actually pretty good in this. He got the essence of the character as a constant antagonist and taunter. It'd be great if he actually sticks around in the sequels to develop instead of just forgetting about him like the last two trilogies did.

So, uh....anyone got a crow? Cause I need to eat some. I was pretty unhappy with the changes when first announced, but in the movie, he WAS Flash. The sport-bully butt slap, his belittling and sarcasm towards Pete, it all felt like what I would expect and want from him at this stage. So far him being a bright *****e was the only change that stuck out to me. With the events of the movie, I can see a possible future for him wanting to use Football as a way to stand out more. Afterall, a teacher called him out on his nickname hah.

His character moments were a lot of fun and Tony did a grand job. I'm sorry I doubted you dude, I've never been so happy to be wrong.

Flash actually seemed kinda dumb to me. He was the one getting all the answers wrong. I really liked this take though. Huge *****ebag.

They kept saying "friendly academic rival" to Peter in all the synopsis notes, but here I suspect he's more or less just a rich kid who has gotten everything he wanted and feels the need to be an ******* to anyone that challenges him, and that's mostly Peter.

I couldn't stand him in this film.
He reminds me of a tamer version of Costa from Project X.

Basically he's the Reggie to Peter's Archie.

I don't think he was characterised that well. He was a bit *****ey, but nothing more. Like the rest of the supporting cast I would have liked to seen him explored more. It really doesn't seem like he's a fan of Spider-man, another big feature of Flash which compliments his bullying of Peter. This version is just kinda one note.

Also he's not believable as a physical bully. He's more of a social bully, not even an intellectual bully as it's established that Peter outclasses him.

I think Revolori did fine enough with little material. Wouldn't mind seeing them explore him more in the sequel.

I loved that they made Flash a really *****ey and terrible DJ at the party.

Bullying via DJing is certainly a new one.

They weren't gonna delve too much more into his social group. Flash, MJ, Ned and the rest all have weird **** happen to them in the books but it don't come into play until much later.
