Never had a chance to see Only God Forgives, I really wanted to. You enjoyed it? I know most people bashed it. But from the critisicm I read it never seemed like a sound argument. Mostly "Too violent" "Too many colors"

For me it's too many dull moments and too pompous.

It's the most disappointing movie of the year for me. It's not even because of the violence or the colors, but more because of how cold and empty I felt it was, in addition to saying whole not of nothing in many scenes. You could have easily taken out 15, 20 minutes out of this already short movie and it probably could have worked a little better, but I found too many of the characters uninteresting, and I think focusing the movie on Gosling's character was a huge mistake. Chang should have been the main character.

Based on what I've heard I do definitely want to see it, I just never got it in the theater I work at so I'm waiting for it to pop up on Netflix, since they have drive and Valhalla rising I'm sure they'll get this lol

How about "boring," "pretentious," and "full of characters that manage to simply be weird without ever truly being interesting?"

The violence and the colors (the cinematography) were the only good parts.

And this is coming from someone who absolutely loved Drive and Bronson. But Only God Forgives was a classic example of a director believing he had a brilliant idea after brilliant idea and no one around him had the balls to tell him, "No."

I loved Drive, and was very excited for this movie after Refn described it as "a Western version of Drive in Thailand," but I never got the drive vibe from it. I got a bit of a Western vibe, like I said earlier, I think Refn tried to hard to be artsy and what I got from it is a cold, empty movie that for the most part does a whole lot of nothing.

It's like Refn took the more flawed aspects of Drive and accentuated those instead of what made Drive great aside from the gorgeous cinematography.

It's sad that this movie was disappointing to me because it really is gorgeous cinematography wise.

Top 10 in no particular order, besides Prisoners as my favorite so far:

- Prisoners
- The Place Beyond the Pines
- Gravity
- Side Effects
- This Is The End
- Fruitvale Station
- Man of Steel
- Mud
- Spring Breakers
- Iron Man 3 (I'll never understand the widespread disdain for it among fans)

Honorable Mentions:

- Enough Said
- Insidious 2 (I'm a big horror fan and like what this "series" has done so far)
- Pacific Rim (incredible VFX, lots of fun)
- Oblivion (surprised this wasn't more well received, it's better than Elysium)
- We're The Millers

Personally, I feel like the Iron Man 3 has a lot of dislike among fans is misguided because their minds got tricked by marketing. I thought the twist was pretty funny. The villain should have had a better motivation beyond "Tony stood me up!".

With that said the movie had bigger issues than "The Mandarin isn't who he is from the comics!"

I quite liked the twist, as well. It served the movie experience well, if you could get past that you'd been duped by the marketing. I particularly enjoy films with a mystery element, where you don't exactly have a clear-cut villain from Point A to Point B.

The film itself suffered from most of the same flaws that all Marvel movies have, although I don't think this one is really a step below the rest. Between Iron Man 2 and 3, I'll take IM3 any day of the week. And thankfully, it wasn't bogged down by relentless cameos/easter eggs and SHIELD references.

It was what I expected it to be -- a fun time at the movies with some awesome superhero action. I also think it was respectful to the Tony Stark character. He had a nice arc in this one.

It's astonishing how many fans went as far as to say their faith in Marvel was hurt with IM3 because of the twist. There was so much ridiculous panic over a villain most people never gave a second look at before.

Yeah, like we pretty much the mandarin in big trouble in little china...and to a lesser extent in the shadow.

Comic fans, yo. Even if they "screw up" something we only barely cared about to begin with, it is, hands down, the end of the world as we know it.
