Just saw The Nightingale and agree with Chris Stuckmann in his review. It was intense, emotional, and a gut-punch the whole way through. A genuine masterpiece of filmmaking, it's one of the best films that I've ever seen not just this year but in a long, long time. I'll be shocked if this doesn't get at least a few Oscar nominations in the acting and behind-the-camera categories. And if it doesn't get any Oscar noms, it'll just go to show how ignorant the Academy is to films that are actually great.

On another note about the film, there were lots of times throughout it when I was thinking Jennifer Kent should collaborate with Robert Eggers. They both know how to deliver a hell of a period film, and honestly I'd love to see them make a period horror film together.

I've seen a lot of films this year and The Nightingale is easily my #1 right now far and away. Nothing else comes close to it, and I'm honestly not sure if anything for the rest of 2019 will. IMO any Best of 2019 list would definitely be incomplete without it.
