I hate to bring this to light, but Solid Snake is an anti-nuclear weapon, environmentalist, tree-hugging pansy who worries about the meaning of his life. Let's not forget, he doesn't even want to do what he does, he even wanted to quit. That's not really cool at all. It's kind of like when Spider-man's emotional breakdown resulted in his temorary hiatus in Spider-man 2 (which was a good movie, but not because of the emotional breakdown).

Sam Fisher just does his job in whichever way he wants to, and his brilliance is displayed through gameplay, not scripted movies.

And last but not least, he put a gun in his mouth and appeared ready to pull the trigger and just "end it all" in the E3 trailers.Yup, that really screams "badass". :

Sam Fisher just does his job in whichever way he wants to, and his brilliance is displayed through gameplay, not scripted movies.

Not to mention that Fisher gets progressively more lethal, more cunning and more "badass" with each passing adventure. Instead of softening up with age like Snake, he pulls out new bags full of tricks every time we see him.

And Michael Ironside's gruffier but totally natural voice-overs own Hayter's forced delivery.
